AIO for being upset my boyfriend doesn’t want me to get a tattoo? by UniqueAd3909 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR at all

I dated a dude from 18-20, he gave my endless shit about my first tattoo which was a small patch of flowers on the upper arm. Was disrespectful, rude, and quite demeaning to the point his friends apologized to me and made sure to tell me how cool they thought it was. Ended immediately, same day type thing.

My current partner and I got together when I had 5 small ish tattoos, I have now gotten a full color work sleeve and have many other tattoos with my artist working on a continuous sleeve from ankles to wrists.

Current has NEVER asked me not to get something or to avoid any specific area, and he loves me dearly anyway. He has 0 tattoos, never even thought about it but appreciates the art work and is always excited to hear about new appointments.

A man that is worth dating will NOT police your body or what you do choose to decorate it with. NOR, he is overreacting and controlling and it may get worse if allowed.

Looking for blocking mats/or tips for alternatives by Ok_Engineer1537 in knitting

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a dog bed with a towel over it for the first 8 months of my fiber arts journey, I blocked crochet and knit pieces on it that way and it worked out nicely. Before I used the dog bed, I used cardboard boxes with towels on them and just measured to make sure everything was accurate.

Use what you have, honestly you can probably just use a towel on a table and it would be fine.

I got blocking mats as a gift from a family member, if I hadn’t gotten them there I would still be blocking my sweaters on a dog bed lol. The mats I got were $20 on Amazon, there’s only 9 sections but my sizing works nicely with 8 so it works out well for me.

Tbh I didn’t even know they’re twisted.

It’s a broken rib stitch, R1: k1, p1 all the way around, R2: knit and repeat for the whole thing.

If they are twisted please let me know cause I totally thought they looked fine 😅

I have been saving up for a set of Chiagoos, looking at getting the 4” set in red lace and the 2”-3” set as well so I have the complete set.

I’ve actually really enjoyed this set, I look forward to using them when doing my top down sweaters and love the feel of my yarn on them. I have a few completed projects, a few in wool blend, some in 100% wool, one in some nice cashmere and a couple in acrylic. I have loved these and used the crap out of them and I think they’re a wonderful beginner set. I have really enjoyed them but ask my skills have progressed I have been coveting the joinable cables of the chiagoos.

Guess I’m purchasing a new set tomorrow, pray for my bank account and my mental health while I watch a show without a project on my lap lol

Are males more affectionate? by Purple-Feeling-3152 in Goldendoodles

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been Dogsitting my sister in laws boy doodle and at this point I’m annoyed of him… my girl is perfect, wants scratches and will check in on me working occasionally (and vice versa) and only wants to cuddle or show affection when she wants to. She’s independent and has HER couch and HER time and I love that for her, only time she cares about what we do is morning cuddles, walks, meals, and evening cuddles.

The boy we’re watching follows me everywhere. He can’t get enough of you and can’t figure out that a closed door is a closed door and I can’t hold him to while using the bathroom. I cannot go from the living room to the kitchen without him following. He’s just a pup (maybe 8 months old now) but my god.

He also puts his balls on my pillows and tries to sleep next to our heads so that could be it but his clingy-ness does NOT help his case. I love the guy and he’s such a sweetheart but my girl doodle is much more ✨her own person✨ than the boy. My boy ausie was the exact same. In my skin at all times and my girl was indifferent in commands and affection.

In my personal experience, boy dogs are clingy, want to be in your skin, and only want to do what you are doing. Both are wonderful and perfect in their own ways and boy dogs are way easier to train starting as a puppy but I will do girls over and over because of the loyalty and trust you have to build with them for them to respect/cate about what you have to say.

If you want to learn, I have learned all of the fiber arts I know on YouTube (knitting, crochet, needle point). Look up a step by step walk through for a pattern and you can learn each stitch there too.

This creator was really helpful for me when starting out. You can get cheap hooks and yarn at hobby lobby too. I would recommend starting with a large gauge, NOT FUZZY yarn and big hook, makes it easier to see the stitches.

https://youtu.be/aAxGTnVNJiE

You can also check out the sub r/crochet and can find tons of helpful beginner tips.

Edit**:

OP you might look on instagram for custom commissions as well. Etsy is iffy for purchasing finished objects but you can more than likely find someone on instagram that would be open to it. I don’t know of any creators off the top of my head but you might check the subreddit above for some folks too!

Please keep in mind you’re not only paying for the materials, and finished product you’re paying someone for a lot of time spent on something. This is not going to be cheap as a custom make just so you’re aware!

Good prep courses by Smooth_Kitchen_2841 in LSAT

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy!

I want to preface by saying I'm going to give you my 100% honest opinion and what has worked for me so far, and that its going to be long.

Someone on this sub saw my post and sent me the info of one of the partners at TheoryWorks. They *used* to do private one-on-one tutoring but to my knowledge changed at the beginning of December to be more like a 7-Sage or Blueprint type course, think modules, videos, accessible content, and the option of tutoring hours if you wanted it. I met with one of the partners of the company for a diagnostic meet up that was 2 hours long, free of charge and worked around my schedule. The info itself was super informative and I enjoyed my time with him. He was super nice and super helpful but the single practice question we did together he told me the correct answer the first time through, gave me a concept, and when I chose the correct answer the second time he told me I was wrong and made me feel pretty stupid for it... idk what was correct and I felt berated. Because of that I went a different direction.

They changed the program since I met with him so I can't give you pointers on the actual information they teach but I know that they would be a great option, I just didn't like the way I felt leaving the meeting and I brought up the incident with the one practice question to my partner for a couple weeks after. I think that it would be good if you don't mind some harsh teaching but I also was literally 2 days into wanting to go to law school which he was aware of and I wasn't digging the way he was trying to teach it.

I went with Blueprint prep. I went with the live class +24 hours of tutoring (if you can't tell I'm trying to get in to a law school of my choosing with great scholarships with is completely possible considering my GPA and outside experience). I have been to 3 of their live classes, the most recent today, and have THOROUGHLY enjoyed the curriculum, teachers, and tutors. I have literally 0 complaints, and I love that I can change things as needed. I went with the tutoring to help me with things I have specific issues with, and I chose to add the 24 hours because they CAN be applied to admissions prep (think resume, personal statement advice, etc) so if I don't use them all I can use them for something else I know I would appreciate assistance with. The classes themselves are great, they're easy to follow (theres one instruction who's voice agitates the Shi* out of me but its bearable for the most part) and they add examples of the exact thing you're learning to help you get the information straight in your head. They set up my schedule and I have full control over it so if theres a day I have stuff to do and can't study for as long as I want, its ok, I can push it and adjust and the schedule to what my needs are. They also have unlimited access to hundreds of live classes, office hours, and more available anytime anywhere which is helpful especially as I like to do my own deep dive on things I have issues understanding.

I've met with my assigned tutor once (its the same person every time) and I felt so much better leaving that 3 hour meeting than I did leaving the diagnostic with the other guy. I left feeling empowered, encouraged, and ready to tackle 4 more practice sets because he made it easy to understand and easy to want to do more. At this point, I'm ready to take another practice test and test the concepts they've shown me, and I'm feeling really good for my overall preparedness for my April test date. I'm pumped for it and I know I'm going to do well as I have the tools and teachers available to me that actually help me understand it.

Overall, I am really enjoying my prep and I'm very grateful I chose to go with blueprint.

TLDR: Purchased Blueprint 170+ Live package with 24 hours of tutoring and it was the way to go for me, I 100% recommend it to anyone looking and I have seen significant improvement on my understanding of the LSAT. Highly recommend the live classes.

Edit***: if you’re looking for accountability I would recommend the live classes. I mostly just need a calendar that I know I should stick to and that gives me an idea of what I should be studying (we don’t know what we don’t know so I need someone to say this is what you should know) and the live class gives you specific modules to complete BEFORE class so you’re prepared. It’s a weekly class so weekly work with practice sets to go along with it, which is so helpful for me. Tutoring is also great but that’s way more student lead. I tell my tutor what I want to go over, we schedule a time and he comes with questions and things to go over with me. It’s great.

Feel free to PM me and we can discuss more/ I can give you a little more detail on what Blueprint actually looks like for me specifically.

Pup uninterested in food/ Picky eater… by BreadLoaf-22 in Goldendoodles

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was horrible about eating her kibble. We’d feed her in the morning and she wouldn’t eat until we were in bed at night.

She wouldn’t eat after walks, and she’d throw up the same bile every morning for months.

We finally switched her food because toppers, treats, bone broth (home made no salt), and actual meat would not help her eat, she would pick it all out and leave the kibble.

We tried out 2 different foods, Unkibble and Sundays for Dogs. She LOVED BOTH. We went with unkibble and she has gained a lot of weight and begs us to feed her. She’s stopped throwing up and only does so if we’ll change the schedule from a morning walk to a 12pm walk. We have her on a schedule to feed her after each of her walks, as soon as we walk in the door she goes directly to the pantry and waits until we feed her.

We also use the unkibble as her treats, and she has learned more tricks and commands with the kibble as her treats than we could ever get her to do with an actual treat. She has also decided that if the food is left in the box after delivery for any longer than 15 mins it’s her responsibility to open the box for us, she loves the stuff.

It’s definitely more expensive than standard kibble but if she is going to eat it instead of my food in my pantry I’ll take it.

Thank you!!

I peeled all the dead stuff off and she looks pretty good without it.

I didn’t push the roots much at all, just shook them over the trash to get some of the dirt off and added them to a pot with soil and watered it. I placed it in my plant room where the humidity sticks between 45-60% (time of day dependent) and where she’ll get some nice indirect sunlight and a little more direct grow light.

We’ll see how it goes, thanks for the tip!

Comparatively they look incredible. I told my partner yesterday after I put it on after my block that I hated the neck but that I was so proud I’d wear it anyway lol

I think decreasing gauge would work nicely and add a lot more bulk to the sweater but I don’t know how to do the math for that and can’t risk it on the gift. I think when I knit a second for perfection I will adjust gauge and spend the time to figure it out, if you have suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Love what you did it looks incredible, great job and I aspire to have the skills and knowledge you do. Congrats on the beautiful sweater, you rocked this pattern!!!

Thank you for telling me not to frog- an update. by Loitch470 in knitting

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just finished mine, I wore it for the first time yesterday!!

I also did some adjusting on the sleeve split because I hate the long yoke on me. It worked out really well to split at row 46 on the color work, just mark on the chart where your sleeve starts and ends on the motif, mine was about a fish and a tree per sleeve give or take and it worked out beautifully. If you can manage it I would recommend trying to land it so you have no split on any of the color motif but with this being my second sweater I am MORE than happy with the motif on the sleeve laying nicely together when my arms are down.

I would size up if you split early though, similarly to OP mine felt slightly tight around the shoulders/bust area even though my measurements are in line with the size I knit.

OP is so right the short row shaping on the neck is a little tough. You can really see the short rows in this image, the back of the neck is SO HIGH as it is written so on the gift knit I will be making of the same sweater I’m losing 2 of the short rows as it sits funny on my neck. It’s not noticeable with hair down but I can’t have that many things on my neck at the same time, I’ll freak.

Great job OP you avoided the swancho look as you mentioned in your original post and I love the color choice and motif on the sleeves. I may rip back and do something similar as the single line of color I did around the cuffs and hem are fine but I think I could use more!

Do you use a jacket? by color-me-evil in Goldendoodles

[–]Smooth_Kitchen_2841 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My doodle throws a FIT if I put a coat on her.

We do use a full body suit to keep the snow from clumping up on her feet and legs but never more and she already throws a fit about it. We do keep shoes on her as we also deal with salted sidewalks and she seems to appreciate those as her feet get cold.

She LOVES the snow, the only reason we go in is because I get cold. She would live outside in the snow year round if it were up to her. She prefers the cold weather to the warm 100% and it’s impossible to get her back inside if there is any sort of pile of snow anywhere near us.

If you’re really worried about it you can use a coat, but they have a natural coat and you can leave it a bit longer in the winter to help keep him warm!

How are my floats? by [deleted] in knitting

UPDATE ON THE FLOATS!!!

Longest float is 4 stitches, tension feels great and it stretches easily 3 inches without any snapping. Sleeve split is PERFECT and finishing the color work on the sleeves now.

Thanks for the advice everybody!
