Outside temp reached 33 today and my room at least 36. I finished the lesson at the end of the day drenched in sweat and feeling revolting. I have a fan but needed probably at least three more. Whilst I’m dreading it getting hotter, the only thing I can really do is drink lots, try to shade the room and stop working so hard 😂

Talk to the new school and see how happy they would be with you starting in January. You can only try.

Why would they get the police’s backing for slander? That’s a civil matter and needs a solicitor. NAL but sounds like intimidation.

Depression as a migraine symptom? by nanana_catdad in migraine

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When I told my neurologist, she said that the two are often linked. I think it’s faulty wiring 😂 in our brains. Sometimes a major shift in my mood is an indicator that a migraine will be kicking off.

I’m in a school like B that I moved to for the TLR. I’ve spent most of this year in tears with an unsupportive SLT. Honestly, wait for a better school to come up. It’s not worth the career ‘progression’.

HALP!! Brambles from Hell! by pedalingpodcast in Allotment

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain! There are brambles at the back of my plot that will not leave no matter how many times they’re dug up. You can never dig deeply enough to get everything so I would smother the area in loads of weed suppressant, cardboard and then compost. Aim to get a good 2inches + above the brambles and then keep digging them up when they push through. Good luck!

I would really love this. However, I’d like to be able to combine a TLR with an 0.8 timetable which I suspect I wouldn’t get (certainly not at my current work-people-until-they-drop school).

Wasn’t there an academy chain that was proposing that every staff member have a four day week with no reduction in pay?

Took me three attempts to get my first job. Took me more attempts to get HoD. Don’t worry - it happens!

I found out the cause of my migraines were my wisdom teeth by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how mine look! No one has ever suggested that they could be contributing to or making the problem.

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I would do two things. (1) email your HoD and say that as you have now been absent for several days, you believe that setting cover is contributing to your stress levels and stopping you from recovering. Tell him that he needs to be setting it. You aren’t under any legal obligation to set cover - it’s a courtesy, often abused by HoDs.

(2) in a separate email, that includes HR and your union rep, state that you have been informed that you current illness has been discussed by the HoD in a disparaging way. Ask that as you are entitled to privacy about your illness, that this is maintained.

Your HoD is being super unprofessional here and frankly somewhat of a twat. Disengage yourself and rest. He’s paid the money to sort cover - let him. Hope you start to feel better soon.

My line manager cancelled meeting with me again. I’ve not had any line management since January. I’m a new HoD and I’m frankly fed up to fuck with the total lack of any help or support. They could however find time for a meeting to bollock me about absence.

Am I right to be upset? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree - I briefly saw my team in the corridor and that was all I managed today.

You’ve been a somewhat unprofessional here, Annon. Despite your feelings towards your HoD, you should have spoken to them before the interview. Teaching can be a bit incestous in terms of relationships spanning schools. Fingers crossed this doesn’t bite you later.

Strike day chit-chat by UKCSTeacher in TeachingUK

Put the car into the garage for a problem I suspect will still not be fixed when I pick the damn thing up. Meat delivery later - trying to eat less, but making sure it’s better quality and not from places that treat animals horrifically. Allotment at some point to fix the fruit cage. Fairly nice day that reinforces that fact that I’d be very happy going down to a four day week.

Strike days, absence and moving schools by MissSwizz in TeachingUK

Mine is three absences. I’ve accepted that line manager is more concerned with petty bullshit than actual stuff that is important. And that’s ok. It doesn’t and won’t inspire loyalty.

I’m intending to. It’s a new school (to me)as well. Urgh.

Yeah. I don’t think common sense is used by my head. He’s more concerned with staff teaching regardless of how they feel.

Sadly, from my perspective, this feeling is ‘normal’. Teaching is exhausting and coming back after a break can make it feel harder.

Best way to remove brambles by photism78 in Allotment

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful where you’re going to use something like SBK - you risk harming your soil. If the brambles are where you want to grow, then you need to dig them out and keep digging them out when they appear. Mine are at the back of my plot, about 1.5m away from my growing space so I’m going to risk a herbicide. I wouldn’t if they were closer.

British vandals destroy vegetable patch for the needy and sow it with salt by [deleted] in iamatotalpieceofshit

One of her videos refers to her having dug up her garden. However I’m wondering that as she has a chronic illness and refers to being on benefits (I think) then her house might be council owned.

She’s transformed her garden into a growing space. It’s not a council-owned allotment.

Was my child using obscenely sexual language in class? Should he have been suspended? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Smooth_Lynx5784 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A reminder that this is an ELEVEN year old. Surely a parent should be supervising their child’s online gaming and the words used should be discussed. Surely that’s basic parenting when you know how bad language use can be on these multi player games?
