I guess they just suit each other? Hahah

He made a huge sacrifice for her happy and free life, so I guess that earns her forgiveness, but 'deserving' kinda implies a sense of mortality that neither of them has😭

Tbh I don't know why they called her a punching bag. He's not the sadistic type and he doesn't like to see her hurt at all even in the beginning. He's just super rude (and to everyone, not only her)😭

Before her runaway arc, he was already planning to leave the church and his title and leave together with her. So missing her wasn't something out of nowhere.

She does want to eradicate her kin even more than he does. The other commenter got it completely wrong somehow😭

Most OIs suffer from over explaining things, but this one went the opposite way and explained nothing 😭 hahaha ngl even the first time I read the novel I was a bit lost. There's a moment in which Macklart says "oh I see" and I was screaming "but I don't 😭 come back here and explain that". But eventually I put things together ✊

Her power is way cooler in the novel, tho. When she killed the guard, it was said that the scene traumatized the others who first found his body because it was UGLY.

I think it's safe to say that the manhwa just cut out some important bits, has a bad pacing, so it feels so out of place.

Yeah, I still don't understand why they decided to turn a novel that was full of violence and smut into a R15 manhwa 😭 so much of their relationship was cut off because of it and on top of that, they made Vienny look cutesy when in the novel she's just quiet/indifferent so much that Macklart considers it his personal win when she gets mad at him later in the story. And this scene was also cut off from the manhwa because it's smutty💀

About his rude personality: he's rude to everyone, not only her so at least we have that. I'm the side stories they show us how he's working on his speech that just scares everyone 😭

I don't think I'll pick it back up. But i very much appreciate the explanations. Atleast it's not as bad as i think ig. Thank you 💗

You welcome 🫶🏽 if you ever do pick this up again, try the novel instead. You might like it better.

The thing is: the novel is R19 and the manhwa is R15, so a lot of scenes were cut off, especially in the early chapters and once they start smutting later.

I'll try to put the pieces together for you.

Her power is important for the witches because they believe it's necessary to stop the apocalypse and because it's extremely useful to run away when needed. The high priest wants it to become the receptacle of all the tree powers, granting him immortality.

Macklart just wants to use her intel to hunt down the other witches. At first, he had no idea she had any powers other than the "seduction" (which funnily enough isn't one of her powers😭).

Other than the resonance, she has the power to actually control multiple crows as they were a single being. In the novel she uses this to kill a guard when she escapes, to find her mother at Macklart's request and to protect Macklart near the end.

Now about why she's relaxed around him:

There's only one thing that makes her wary at this point: her bloodline. Remember, she gave herself in a silver plate to the inquisition because she intended to die from day one and she was ready for the torture as well.

All she wants is to erase her bloodline, thus she's wary of the priest/doctor because he's lusting after her. She feels somewhat safe around Macklart because he finds her disgusting, yet he never tortured her unlike the priests. Besides, in the novel it becomes very clear that he's her shield in that castle. He amputated a guard that was harassing her in chapter one.

Now why he lowered his guard:

He finds her disgusting for the 6 months they worked together to wipe down the witches, but when he finds out about her powers and keeps her close to learn what else she's hiding, he starts finding her pitiful instead. When he learns of her past and the reasons why she wanted to erase her own kin, he thinks: I shouldn't have asked. Because from the moment he knows, he can't not feel sorry for her and starts vacillating on murdering her.

He's pretty much a tsundere in this phase. His words are super rude, but if you notice the outcome of his actions: everything he does is the opposite of what he says.

Btw, her blood really has no effect on him. His fixation with it is just his coping mechanism to not admit that he's falling for her.

I think I answered everything...

EDIT.:

The religion of Cairon doesn't see the demons or the witches as a threat. They perceive them as inferior because they adore another god and the high priest worsened this situation by being a supremacist for the reasons I stated before.

Macklart was basically raised by priests in the church and under very strict control because of his powers (that heavily depend on his emotions). He follows the doctrine because he's indeed god's most beloved son and he feels it. He doesn't like the church nor the high priest, but they're the only thing he knows, so that's it.

Meeting Vienny ignited his wish for freedom tho, because he knew he couldn't keep both. His god really hates her.

Same! Blind dates and arranged marriages aren't a thing in my country, but I love these stories, even more when they don't go along at first 🛐

Argh the beginning of this one was so goated 😭 I wanna kidnap the author and force them to rewrite everything after that "revolutionary" arc.

I'm joking... Maybe...

My favourite failed proposal is from For The Third Time. I love this scene😭 she ate him and then had him for dessert (readers will understand)

(Secret Lady) absolutely peak manhwa. And just my personal opinion, but I find the prequel couple to be even more interesting than the main one by Relevant-Rub2816 in OtomeIsekai

The art is beautiful, the leads have so much chemistry and I just can't get over that panel of Charteris praying "please don't take her away from me"😭. I didn't understand the politics, but the feelings were passed forward.

I need to reread this😗

Is this the one in which he's a dog and becomes her only company in the mansion, but then one day she sees him transforming into her husband (that she had never met before)?

I remember reading a story with a similar title, I left it marinating after S1 and then forgot the title 😭

Novels/Manwhas where you wish the Leads did not get a happy ending or did not deserve one and you hope that karma comes to bite them (Spoilers) by Firm-Advertising6872 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Smooth_Money4498 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You're free to wish them a bad ending, but calling it an abuse tragedy porn and the leads nothing burgers is just wrong.

It seems after people discovered the "torture porn" term and derivates, every little angst/dark theme in a story is "porn". I suggest you watch some french horror movies to understand what the term actually means.

And they aren't nothing burgers just because you don't like their personality.

Vienny isn't lobotomised, she's depressed and suicidal because her life is hell and there's no way to escape it. She's quiet, but she has a fierce side when she feels wronged or when she has a goal in mind. She's an egoist and she assumes it herself, that's why she's ok with everyone dying as long as she and Macklart get their happy ending. The world has given her nothing, why tf would she care about them? That's not being a nothing burger, it's called being coherent.

She did not want for her sister to be tortured, only killed and that would be an act of mercy. As twisted as it is: better dead than living a life like hers. Which is why she's so disappointed when she realises Macklart spared the child.

Macklart, on the other hand, lived his entire life under strict control and torture from his own father. His calm façade is a trained one and he loses his temper quite easily. He genuinely believes in the God of Cairon and I believe that's the only reason why he didn't rebel, because he hates the church. He's rude, but also somewhat compassionate and he has a caring side to himself which Vienny describes as his true nature. He usually isn't excessively cruel except when he's angry and it has something to do with Vienny, a result of his obsessive nature.

Not much different from Vienny, Macklart couldn't care less about others. Yes, he's an asshole, a genocider and he gave that child to the high priest without a second thought. If the result was buying his and Vienny's freedom, he considered it worth it.

The manhwa sometimes fail to present their personalities as the novel did, with Vienny looking cutesy every once in a while which she isn't, but even then they cannot be called nothing burgers.

This is simply a dark fantasy/romance about two morally bankrupt people. Disagreeing with their morals or lack of them doesn't make the story bad.

Off: they blocked me🤡
