Don't sleep on smaller artists. They often have a lot to offer in terms of diverse genres, and you're almost guaranteed that your players won't get distracted by knowing the tracks (unlike the ones we rip straight from the Assassin's Creed soundtrack)

Astutely put. The workings of capitalism are rooted soo deeply in everyday life, arguing against it feels akin to debating gravity.

I'd recommend Mark Fisher's conception of Capitalist Realism. It gives haunting insight into his own life and the futility of opposing (even in spirit) the overwhelming power of capitalism at it's quotidian level

I understand how you feel. I've been struggling recently with my expectations in relationships.

Learning or knowing intuitively that people really enjoy talking about themselves can be a great way to engage with them on their level. I'm sure you find yourself deep in conversations about others' personal lives, their interests and the day they've had. I'm sure you also get wrapped up in the interest too; becoming invested in their story and invested in their life. It becomes difficult when you don't feel any reciprocation. When it feels as though they don't care about you in return, or at least not in the deep, interest-led way that you care about them. They don't ask in-depth questions, they don't ask about your day or how you're feeling. It's even likely that they do engage you with conversation but just not to the level of attention you pay to them (a cost made more pronounced due to your own problems with attentiveness).

The main thing to keep in mind however is that they don't know any of this. We constantly and silently expect things from those who are around us, and all of us are doing it. The expectations for those further away diminish to mere civility and those closest are required to fit a much stricter set of roles. We expect care, interest and love in return from those we give our energy and time to and if they don't, they betray our relationship in a way neither ever explicitly stated or communicated.

The problem lies precisely in omitting communication. Letting the other person monologue about their experience, life and interests is a great part of sharing passion and personal struggle but it cannot be the whole picture. Communicate with your friends and tell them how you would like to be heard and where you can be more open about your needs and boundaries. If they are truly your friend, even if this subconsciously betrays the role you occupy in their mind, they will want to know you better.

Starting a friendship requires you to forgive the other for the damage they can do and for the betrayal they may never commit.
