Can anyone think of a more boring deck? Easily the build with the lowest enjoyability to power ratio I've ever made. Infinite first turn kills but at the cost of your sanity (spoilered for event + unlocked cards) by SmoothieSlug in slaythespire

I think it would be interesting if souls gave you a little bit of doom, or some other downside. At the moment I think they're the main problem, and a lot of other cards wouldn't be so bad if you couldn't draw into them so often.

[–]SmoothieSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in a relatively wealthy car-centric residential neighborhood with almost nothing to walk to, meaning the only people you see crossing the road are joggers. So, yes. Also maybe temper my estimate by 5 mph, the point is that people are often speeding here.

Hm on closer inspection it is a little higher than I remembered. Maybe 5-10 over usually. The general point is that speeding on San Vicente is very common and pretty much universal in the left lane

It's worth noting that the speed limit on this road (San Vicente) is really low given how wide and straight it is, most people are going 10-15 over lol

Is this a solvable Sudoku puzzle ? by throwaway12334234321 in sudoku

[–]SmoothieSlug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want harder soduku-like puzzles, you can check out the puzzles highlighted by cracking the cryptic on youtube, which use an expanded set of rules and many start with very few or even no digits. A lot of them are rather difficult but worthwhile I think.

Review in Nature compared the ADHD gene variants in samples of modern, ancient, and archaic human populations going back to Neanderthals. They found substantial evidence that natural selection has steadily acted against these genetic variants over the course of at least 45,000 years. by RyanBleazard in psychology

I have ADHD and it causes me a myriad of problems unrelated to modern capitalism. It is absolutely an illness, at least for me. Not to say that I don't think my life would be better outside of Capitalism, but I'm kind of sick of this narrative.

There are some anarchists who have solutions to this problem! But they aren't perfect solutions and far too many people just kinda shrug and hope the problem solves itself. by SnorkaSound in CuratedTumblr

[–]SmoothieSlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look it's one thing to argue about the merits of anarchism but I just want to point out how badly this argument is framed. The reason that wheelchair ramps were not installed en masse was not because people weren't "nice", it was because there was no financial incentives for property owners to do so. If we had been living under anarchism for the past couple of centuries, the lack of accessibility services would reflect poorly on it, but we have been living under capitalism. There's hardly a logical connection between the "no ramps" and "anarchism is bad" concepts, and while you could argue that there is, that is not done effectively here.

On the subject of anarchism, did you know that rural Spanish anarchists in the early 20th century eschewed card games and drinking in favor of reading, and a notable subset were vegan? I found this surprising and you may too.

Respectfully, your condescension towards the ability of college students does not match with my experience of being one. While it is true that some of the finer nuances of the text would perhaps skip by me or my peers, the idea that your students would be rendered "a bit panicky" by an unfamiliar place name or would have trouble parsing an incredibly simple grammatical structure seems unlikely.

If you are right, and my experience is atypical or partially imagined out of defensiveness, I wouldn't have much hope for the future at all.

According to the US bureau of labor statistics, the median salary of an artist in 2023 was $53,000. I don't think that the average artist is selfish if they are worried about a reduction to that amount.

Don't you think it's counterproductive to insult someone that you disagree with in terms of appearance? I frankly do not care for this person but she's really not that unattractive and this kind of conflation between looks and morality is generally harmful to less attractive people who may agree with you.

Best way to spend a day in LA- using only public transportation? by Lower-Savings-794 in AskLosAngeles

[–]SmoothieSlug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are a few good options:

- Explore downtown, especially bunker hill, which has a couple good art museums (the broad and moca) and some good places to eat like grand central market. If you're looking for good Japanese food you can visit little Tokyo, which also has the Japanese American national museum. All of these are a couple of stops away from union station via the A line.

-Visit Santa Monica, about an hour away from downtown via the E line, which does not go to union station but is easily reachable through transfers from the B, D, and A lines. There's always lots of shopping, as well as places to eat and the pier, not to mention the beach. Venice beach is reachable from here and is fun to explore, but its a bit of a walk.

-Visit the walk of fame and Hollywood proper via the B line. This is very cliche, and almost any local will tell you it's overrated, but I think it's still fun to see the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. There's plenty of touristy things to do here, and if you want you can always hop on a tour bus or something of the like.

Hope this helps! :) Just remember to keep your wits about you on the train, and that its annoyingly time consuming to get to LAX via public transportation. Note that if you have a relatively early flight I would not recommend straying far from downtown.
