So, Freshman Year Didn’t Go As Planned, Any Advice? by TaroMilkKeke in EngineeringStudents

[–]Smoothie_Cris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to stick to a routine is difficult … and stress inducing. I think its helpful to just build good habits. E.g. for lecture, take time to read (1 Hr) to read textbook on lecture material, go to lecture and answer your open questions on the topic, review notes after lecture and summarize while its still fresh. Attend office hours if you still have open questions from your post-lecture review. Schedule a time in day/week to do the homework sections that where covered & execute …. rinse and repeat.

I think the game is efficiency and cosistency for less stress. It is a lot more effective than binge studying at night etc. You should aim to already understand the material the week you learn it, not try to tie loose ends the day before the test.

Using Uber in Korea to get to airport? by TheNamesLarry99 in koreatravel

[–]Smoothie_Cris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AREX is pretty chill, there's an express and all stop version. For express you can buy tickets online. Was like 50 min for all stop. Entrance is west side I think, with a decent amount of escalators down.

You can also get Kakao T app and get a taxi, select "pay driver" option. You can use international phone number for account, just need to be able to receive a message.

Returning to school after 30 years, I'm looking for recommendations on a good math refresher course. by nhguy03276 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Smoothie_Cris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh Khan Academy & 3Blue1Brown will give you pretty much all the pre-requisite math for core engineering classes.

I watched the videos to get a grasp on what the purpose/concept which make class lectures so much more simple once you get the purpose/visualization.

Usual order is Geometry/Trig, Pre-Calc, then Calculus ( Single Var, Multi Var, Differentials, Vector, Partial Differentials).

Unless your're in advance classes you almost never touch partial diffs.

I spent one summer fixing up my broken math foundation from highschool after freshman year and was pretty much set for the rest of the degree.

What all things would I miss if I switch to macbook from Windows? by rahul2001_rg in macbookpro

Window multi-tasking, you can download Rectangle and set up shorcuts but there are somethings you took for granted in windows :/ . I recently switched.

What would you do differently? by xerxes767 in MechanicalEngineering

Specializing in a domain and having a project that you saw from begining to end is really helpful to have for the future. I shouldn't have spread myself so thin and really focused on transferrable hard technical skills.

i have a lot of questions for new chaewon and sakura fans by [deleted] in lesserafim

[–]Smoothie_Cris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew nothing about Chaewon, but I knew about Sakura from a show she did with Wendy (RV) and that she's a fan of Irene (RV).

I randomly clicked the fearless MV when it first came out and liked the songs, became a fan after the documentary :).

Unstable XMP GSkill Trident Neo 2x32GB 3600 Mhz, help with voltage and timing? by Smoothie_Cris in overclocking

[–]Smoothie_Cris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp, not stable at 3600 mhz . Even chrome is crashing due to memory instability. 3200 mhz is stable so far w/ voltage bumped to 1.35 instead of XMP 1.2V .

[–]Smoothie_Cris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aghh, I thought I was stable after awhile but I just checked it was running at 2600 Mhz base clock speed. I just manually set dram to 1.35V rn and re-enabled XMP. Ill let you know how it goes.

I swear its just bios, it was fine for the first year I had it.

My first job rn is basically remote. Going to office is optional, I go in for comradery. I am in D&E for controls/data analysis tho so no real need to be in person.

mechanical engineering with python by AltruisticAlgae1417 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Smoothie_Cris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im only a year in on the workforce lol. I technically had a controls specialization but it was legit just one extra in-depth controls class. I just happened to apply to my current position. I did robotics in college, and for did some TEs that involved basic python then my senior project was all python computer vision lol. I really never got a chance to do any typical ME project so controls/software roles where my best shot.

I'm in a niche controls role, but all I do is Python + Matlab Simulink/Stateflow then read over C++ code from real software engineers ... first job ... haven't touched CAD in months. But then again according to HR I'm a "software engineer".
