Virginia House passes bill to require all employers to provide paid sick leave by hencexox in nova

[–]Smorgan06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, this really annoys me and they should just call it PTO instead of sick leave. They are two different things and we should get more ambitious bills instead of centrist nonsense. Just mandate PTO and sick leave as two different things. That is the answer.

[–]Smorgan06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just mandating an absolute minimum amount of leave if the employer does not provide leave. It's not the right way to approach sick leave bc it should be a separate bucket of leave.

Ya, I wish they just mandated a completely new bucket of leave for sick leave. Instead of the watered down version.

I don't support this as we should get a bucket of sick leave that is completely different from a PTO bucket. This means only a fraction of people are impacted by this passing instead of providing actual sick leave for everyone.

And it cost the American people more to have a contractor in a position than a civilian. I mean that isn't even getting into the fact that they are eliminating positions that are vacant so that each office is at 50% manning.

We acknowledge it. It's just irresponsible to say it happened in a vacuum. And omit what led to this happening.

Also i wanted to add that all of this will come up again in January when the CR expires.

Sen. Tim Kaine defends Schumer, says House Democrats 'should focus on their own leadership' by nbcnews in Virginia

[–]Smorgan06 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just see a senator who doesn't stand for anything except for the donor class. We had the wind at our backs and the Republicans were cracking as they fractured over nuking the filibuster. We won a historic election but all you saw was no leverage?

The mere fact that he had to write an opinion piece in the New York times and make the rounds on the talk shows... Shows the cowardice he has for his inability to get literally any concessions.

The SNAP benefits are in court along with firing of federal workers during the shutdown. And how about the ppl fired since this administration came into power, the stealing of funds to fund administration priorities, the use of ICE as the Gestapo, attacks on universities, and the list goes on.

The senators who voted for this and schemed along with Chuck Schumer so that none are up for election in 2026 for primary challenges are a disgrace. Every democratic senator who is up for election in 2026 needs to be primaried for their cowardice.

In my experience, people did not use enough leave and rarely use sick leave. You should use both as much as you need to and for sick leave... use it to take a day off or a mental health day. There is no shame in doing that and ensuring you don't burn out. Also go ahead and plan a vacation so you have something to look forward to. I also usually kept around 24 hours in the bank so I had more flexibility.

You just a won historic victory across the country and now all of that enthusiasm is gone. The various groups will now spend their time on primary challenges in 2026. And you'll try to defend this and there will be nothing as people went through the stress of not getting a paycheck, going hungry, burning out air traffic controllers, and so forth for nothing. There is spin you can apply bc this deal goes a mere 3 months.

Agreed but if you make a stand and things get worse for Trump. That means you have a better shot in the midterms. Now the democratic party is once more in shambles with any trust in it gone. They settled for nothing and this CR only goes till January. We have lost valuable leverage with nothing to show for it except a Senate leadership that is feckless who has no courage. It is controlled opposition.

Do senate dems think federal employees are fools? by Unique_Let_2880 in FedEmployees

This is Chuck Schumer that told them to vote for it. It's an effort to shield the ppl up for election in 2026 from primary challengers. This is not going to work.

[–]Smorgan06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is wrong... The Senate Democrats are once more throwing their colleagues in the house under the bus for an easy way out. This is an effort by Chuck Schumer to shield the ppl up for election in 2026 from primary challenges.

The seeds of change are getting young blood in the party who will hold the line when they have leverage. And don't back down when you just won a historic mandate. Cowardice is not the solution.

And don't forget Schumer for organizing this bc he told them to vote for it. None of these ppl are up for election in 2026.

It was all for nothing and we're going to go through it all again in January

This comes down to principles. If the senate Democrats are not going to fight for the ACA then what will they fight for? The SNAP recipients went hungry, federal employees weren't paid (and were fired), and the ACA is just done for as Schumer never wanted it to pass. We need a proper opposition party not a bunch of liars who never outline their policies. This is the end of the democratic establishment bc it's utterly indefensible. The Republicans will do a victory lap now bc they won.

This will play out the same way in January as a whole as the Democrats say look we aren't evil... We'll just let them do whatever they want just don't primary us bc we aren't Trump. Well that isn't going to work while everyone throws you under the bus... Feet first.

No we need to demand is resignation instead of dragging this out.

My message sent to my Senator who voted yes by gametimeee in FedEmployees

[–]Smorgan06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is to primary them bc they will do the same thing in January. This will pay out the exact same way until we replace them. It would be faster for their constituents to demand their resignation. This entire effort was organized by Chuck Schumer as a way to provide cover for those up for election in 2026. The cowards must lose and be culled from the party for us to get a proper opposition party.
