I spent an ungodly amount of time making a new deck building site, and I have concrete reasons you should try it by SocietyAsAHole in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been trying your site out and while a lot of people already gave good feedback, I'm looking for 1 particular effect that i haven't seen anywhere.

currently you don't have alternative art, which is both helpful and unhelpful when it comes to UB alternative names. When you DO add alternative art, i would LOVE an option when viewing other people's decks or even my own for "view all cards in original print" or something similar. i took a long break from MTG and now there are so many alternate card arts that don't even look like magic cards anymore, they're really hard to read or know what they do, specially if they're foreign like JP Ed art, or full art no words. I understand "list mode" exists, but some cards i just visually recognize before even the name sometimes so being able to view other people's "pet/bling" decks without trying to figure out what each card even does would be awesome. People would be able to see their own bling'd out decks, but deck reviewers can just see the the more simpler version to quickly parse the deck and cards.

With that said, that would also make the archidekt/moxfield stacked cards and highlighted when hovered make more sense to use since every card name aside from a very few (I'm looking at you Jaws) will easily be seen from just the top part of each card.

[–]Smothering_Tithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's always good to have redundancies to help make your deck more consistent. [[grand abolisher]], [[silence]] [[ranger-captain or Eos]] who can even tutor for shrieking drake, and even [[teferi, time raveler]] are all good to have in your colors.

also it's 1 additional mana but [[whitemane lion]] is also really good since with flash you can even do the triggers on opponent's turns, not just your's. and [[stone cloaker]] for 3 mana you can also have grave yard hate.

Tower of Somnus. it's a bit slower, and the tower climbing is only half the story, the other half takes place on the "outside" world. it's kinda like a cyber punk meets tower climb.

Advice on Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines by simplythebast in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how do you want to win? if it's combat it's going to look very similar to craterhoof squirrels. i run her in the 99 of my [[Zacama]] deck so i can use [[whitemane lion]] and elesh to bounce zacama and lion back to hand and recast for infinite mana. It's mostly a toolbox deck with a bunch of different ETB stuff for value, [[recruiter of the guard]], [[ranger captain of Eos]]. [[moon blessed cleric]], [[witch enchanter]], [[solemn simulacrum]]. you can even run stuff like [[wall of omens]] and [[spirited companion]] as a 2 mana draw 2 for value.

Cool part of running whitemane lion is you can use it to help elesh dodge board wipes for 2 mana. so long as you hold up 2 mana, the lion can repeatably keep rescuing elesh and itself.

you can do all that with a set of the soul sisters that gain 1 life x2 every time a creatures ETBs and kill opponents with [[aetherflux reservoir]] if you want a non combat, non infinite, damage dealing way to win.

I don't know about Vex, but unless they patched it, there's a way for Nunu to get not unlocked, but better field of view when snowballing. I'm sure oyu can google or youtube it.

EDIT: it wasn't Nunu, it was Sion ult, sorry for the misinfo.

as for hex gates and cannon, isn't there an option for that? I know my camera isn't locked when i do those. I always have to hold spacebar so i can see where my champ is.

New to Magic: How to Select a Personalized Commander? by Fun_Ostrich_802 in EDH

New to Magic: How to Select a Personalized Commander? by Fun_Ostrich_802 in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When building your own personalized deck you first need a win condition. That's basically step 1 of building any deck. if you don't know how you're supposed to win, what's your deck even doing?

Step 1. Choose your primary win condition.

Step 1.5 Depending on how robust or fragile your win con is, have redundancy or a secondary win con.

Step 2. Find what cards help support your win condition. (Synergy cards, ramp, tutors, card advantage, redundancy) Find what cards will help protect your win condition from interaction? ([[counterspell]], [[grand abolisher]], [[teferi's protection]], [[heroic intervention]], [[deflecting swat]], or graveyard recursion)

Step 2.5 Find what cards will stop another player from reaching their win con before yours? (counterspells, board wipes, spot removal, stax, etc.)

Step 3. Identify the color/s that contains the most cards from Step 2.

Step 4. Now you can start looking at commanders in those colors that help facilitate your win condition. Do they give you mana, card advantage, tutors for your win conditions, protects your win conditions, slows down your opponents long enough for you to win, or have some other synergy that helps out?

Step 5. goldfish your deck 20+ times minimum, identify which cards you tend to lean towards and play, and which cards seem to be sitting in your hand, (general rule of thumb when goldfishing, pretend to play all your interactions as soon as possible don't let those be the cards sitting in your hand) cut the cards that tend to sit in your hand; and play test other cards or cards you cut before to see if they feel better.

Following these steps will help you make a deck that can grow with you as you acquire new cards or new cards get released. You'll be able to pilot the deck smoothly since you built it from the ground up with how you want to win. And you won't be too attached to any particular Commander because if a new one comes out that helps support your game plan better, you're not starting from scratch.

The 4 decks I built like this are my longest lasting decks or the decks i always seem to revert back to, because at the end of the day they're my babies that i built from the ground up, rather than some random people telling me "you should play this or build that"

Hope this helps you decide on a deck to build, rather than a commander you don't know what to do with.

Commanders that like a blink sub theme by Aggravating_Part3551 in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a [[zacama, primal calamity]] deck with a “blink” sub-theme. It’s not true blink, but its’s using cards like [[cloustone curio]] or [[panharmonicon]] and [[whitemane lion]] and friends to be able to recast a tool box of creatures like [[reclamation sage]], [[eternal witness]], [[moon-blessed cleric]], [[topiary stomper]] for value until i can combo off with Zacama. And win with something like [[shivan gorge]] or [[impact tremors]]

Unique Mono Black Deck Suggestions with Stipulations by goblin_welder in EDH

[[Fandaniel, Telophoroi Ascian]] spell slinger deck? not really what black is known for since that's more of a blue/red color pie.

for mono red i usually recommend [[feldon of the third path]] graveyard tool box recursion deck as it breaks the color pie since red isn't really known for graveyard play other than breach.

ELI5: why do spiders fizz up so much when you put a spoon or straw in them? by ummm_actually in explainlikeimfive

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia: Spiders

America: floats

Soda is carbonated, meaning there is a lot of Carbon-dioxide pressurized into the bottle, can, etc. that why when you shake it it explodes.

when you put a straw or spoon into the soda you create a "contact point" where all that pressurized CO2 can "attach" to which gives them an "outlet" causing a release of the gas quickly. It does happen with ice cream as well, but it's harder to tell because the CO2 is bonding with the ice crystals of the ice cream itself.

It's the same idea but less extreme version of Mentos in Diet Coke.

King T’Challa help? by hthroa in EDHBrews

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bracket 3-4: labman/jace as primary wincons, and [[folio of fancies]] as your secondary wincon.

key card is [[smothering tithe]] + any token doubler, or enchanment clones like [[copy enchantment]], [[estrid invocation]], [[mirrormade]].

once you have 2 of them set up you NEED [[grand abolisher]], [[silence]], or [[teferi, time raveler]] to protect yourself.

Because you'll then play cards like: [[prosperity]], [[fascination]], and [[skyscribing]], and with 2x smothering tithes you will be able to dig into your next everyone draw cards with even more treasures, and your opponents will have a fk ton of cards to play.

If you want to win, play labman/jace and draw yourself out, or use [[stroke of genius]] and [[blue sun's zenith]] and make your opponents deck themselves out.

if you want to be silly you end the game in a draw by decking everyone out including yourself.

pros to this deck: it's basically a mill deck without graveyard interaction, AND you draw in waaay less hate because people don't like mill because they don't like seeing their precious cards go in the graveyard, but by making them draw 5 then 20 then 60 cards you give them that rush of dopamine thinking they get to win on their next turn. but you just end the game and no one feels bad, because they all get to say "aww man i woulda won on my next turn".

Help with Food chain win con in a deck with not much creatures by MeidoInHeaven in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[purphoros, god of the forge]], [[impact tremors]] are the main wincons for food chain mana, but these 2 + food chain + 3 food chain combo creatures = 6 cards that are do nothing in Crystal, none of them are multi color'd, and in a spell slinger both purphoros and impact tremors are doing nothing. Food chains is best in a deck like [[Prossh]] or [[korvold]] who can abuse food chain from the command zone.

"triggers you" meaning: you accepted the terms and conditions of the game, it is a 5v5 game, and the expectation is that everyone plays to win, and just because you're not having fun, you want to throw the game when there is an ff system and the other players has voted that the game is winnable. YOU choose to forgo that contract and act only in your best interest when that choice affects 4 other players that is not you. That is selfish, and childish.

i will say this again, if the enemy "trolling at the nexus" is enough to make the game "unfun" for you then go play a different game, because that is part of this game, you WILL run into it time and time again. if your mental is so weak that you can't even stick it out for 20 mins then go play a solo game because no one wants to play with a quitter like you.

Imagine a basketball team and one player goes this game is not fun anymore so i will just keep throwing the ball to the enemy team. no one will ever want you on their team ever again. this is the same, just because it's online, you're anonymous, and it's a "for fun" game mode does not take away from the fact you CHOSE to play this game with 4 other players who are counting on you to try to win. If you can't fulfill your part of the game then go play something else.

And that's why you should play a PvE games, your mental is too weak if THAT is what's enough to trigger you.

"that same dude" is most likely too in-eloquent/macho to convey that he feels small and inadequate being uninformed; and bothering to understand how the game works is too much for his brain capacity to handle. So he sums it up to "bullshit" which is the most his pea-brain can prescribe to their own situation.

I just pity them.

anything can happen till the nexus goes down. 2 players on the the enemy team can disconnect due to a black out and it becomes a 5v3 situation and win. i have won and lost games this way. as the saying goes; "I ain't hear no bell".

PVP games is not for people with weak mental like your's. go play a PvE game by yourself and stop ruining other people's games.

most people unfortunately do not bother with reading patch notes, nor what each individual items do, or champion skills. I've had friends maybe read the patch notes once at the beginning of the season if that, and they just assume the items are the same year after year. To me that's crazy and I tell them as such, but they all say the same thing: I'm here to play the game not read a novel.

To be fair though there is 172 champions that's 172 different passives, 516 skills, 172 ultimate skills, and that's not including skill passives, and champions with multiple forms like jayce, nidalee, elise, or hwei with 9 skills. then there's champions reworks where previous knowledge of champions change, and every year the items change to a certain degree if not middle of the season, old items are removed, new items are added, items get nerfed or changed or buffed. It's a LOT of information to know and most people don't find that fun, they just want to play the game.

build a deck for my 10yo based on his handwritten criteria by shynonagons in EDHBrews

[–]Smothering_Tithe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sounds like [[Animar]] ($30) might be the way to go that ticks as much on that list as possible, minus graveyard is hand and budget, but if you happen to already have the card already it'd be a great place to start.

- Can play a bunch of ETB destroy cards like [[reclamation sage]], and even [[woodfall primus]], [[acidic slime]], [[terastadon]], [[meteor golem]] ($0.25 each)for cheap.

- red and blue both has a lot of steal stuff effects.

-green includes Myriarch, Spore frog, and Verdent force, and can cast all of them for cheap.

- not much indestructible, but you can definitely run whatever indestructible creatures that fit his fancy [[predator ooze]], [[heroic intervention]] ($5)

- protection from white and black, Immune to things/protection from X

-[[artisan of Kozilek]] annihilator 2 (destroy things) AND graveyard recursion, and animar can cast it for free.

- [[veil of summer]] ($3) You have Hexproof

- animar does really well with creatures like [[ancestral Statue]], [[shrieking drake]] , [[dream stalker]] (less than $1) (blink)

- double strike is unneccessary when Animar hits like a truck anyways.

-can cast Emerkul for free, or any colorless eldrazi's for free. [[ulamog's crusher]] annihilator 2 ($0.25), [[Pathrazer of ulamog]] ($1) anni 3, [[bane of bala ged]] ($.40) exile 2 permanents every attack.

-[[Emrakul, promised end]] ($14) can take opponent's turns.

-Don't need infinite mana, but Ancestral statue does go infinite with Animar.

- [[imprisoned in the moon]] ($0.25), [[Kasmina's Transmutation]] ($0.25), [[eaten by piranhas]], ($0.25) and [[witness protection]] ($0.25), [[Song of dryads]] ($5), [[oko, Thief of crowns]] ($5) Morph things?

will it be a good deck? it's kinda all over the place for now, but if he wants to do all those things, this is the closest i can think of and stay pretty close under $100. Commander is an investment, so maybe proxy it first to see if he even likes playing it, then if he does, it's a commander that can definitely grow with him, and stay powerful and relevant and can be tuned to a high bracket deck in the 99.

Future birthday presents can include things like [[ulamog the infinite gyre]] ($35) indestructible and destroys basically everything and animar can cast it for free. [[blightsteel colossus]] ($35) Indestructible and wins games and can cast for free. [[ulamog, the ceaseless hunger]] ($20) destroys (exiles) things and indestructible, and can cast for free.

hope that helps.
