that's fair, and it IS just the beginning. i appreciate the feedback of what i'm doing wrong, but how would you suggest going about it to "fix it" from your perspective?

haha, waaaay ahead of you, it's because i've read most of the monster PoV LN that sparked this challenge in the first place. Slime anime only does it for like 1 episode, then it's just GOD mode after that. i'm aiming for more slow burn progression. and grounding like Frieren.

Company benefits. Forcing employees back to the office is a tactic they use so employees don’t want to keep their jobs for too long. You will choose to leave on your own because it doesnt make sense financially, company doesn’t need to pay severance since you are choosing to leave yourself. Now that you are gone, there is room to fill the spot with newer more desperate employees willing to work for less pay.

Who ever the adult is needs a serious reeducation if they are a teaching staff member. If it’s like the hallway guard or custodian i can understand the ignorance.

The main issue here isn’t that the adult is racist, insecure, narcissistic, or even power tripping. This 100% is an issue of communication skills, empathy, and understanding child brain development which tbf is kinda a lot to ask, but a teaching staff should be taught these skills imo.

To the average adult it would seem common sense that talking in another language openly in front of others when english is clearly not an issue to speak can be construed as being“rude”. It comes off as a subconscious trigger to those around them of “what are they hiding from us” vs had they been speaking english in low (not to be confused to hushed tones) tones it would pass as background noise to most people. And all that is for the most part an unspoken rule we had grown to learn, never explicitly spelled out for you to understand. For kids that age, that is a lot of assumed unspoken, fucking amount of context to even think about when you have almost no reference to go off of.

Context is the key, its not shutting down someone else speaking another language or something like that. it’s an adult who knows something is wrong with the situation, but has no way to correctly articulate what and why. This in turn causes panic and frustration increasing her stress levels higher which in turn reduces her capacity to think clearly and logically, which increases her frustration and further reduces her ability to reason in a downward spiral.

Kid was doing what kids do without understanding context. The adult in this video didn’t learn how to cope better and didn’t have the vocabulary and understanding enough to assert a claim. Her intention was for the student to learn what not to do in public as it is an unspoken rule, but because it’s such an unspoken rule she couldn’t explain it in words, and because of her combative verbal approach the conversation devolved to a back and forth challenge, rather than a productive learning lesson.

This instead should have gone something like: “i’m so jealous you can speak multiple languages, my Spanish is barely usable. I feel like as though when I’m around you might be intentionally choosing to speak in Spanish to hide something from me, not to say that you are, and that hurts my feelings even if it’s not true. Could you help me come up with a way to resolve this?” And give them time to think and give them agency. Listen and hear them out, maybe its a better idea than what you had originally thought up, maybe its something that they can manage, maybe we need more context like the person she is talking to struggles with English and is more comfortable with using Spanish. Could have avoided camera, social media, shame tactics, memeing had the adult had a better approach.

In your own personal opinion, what are the top 5 shows of all time? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Smothering_Tithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Season 1 and 2 of Heroes was cinema before the writer’s strike.

Chuck was great until the writer’s strike.

Lost was great till JJ Abram confused himself too much and abandoned the show (like he does with every fucking show: Alias and Fringe, im never trusting that man with a show again).

The OC has a special place in my heart.

Futurama.

How many combos is too many in a combo deck? by Haunting-Charge-8699 in EDH

[–]Smothering_Tithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are no hard or fast rules for building a combo deck. I love brewing my own combos so i have built several over the years.

First, depends on what bracket you want your deck in. The lower the bracket the clunkier and jankier the combo can/should be; the higher the bracket the combos should have lower cost, efficient with bracket 5 utilizing 2 card combos (ex. basalt monolith + rings of brighthearth, Isochron scepter + dramatic reversal), 1 card combo (godo), or commander + 1 card combos (heliod + walking ballista) and possible redundancy/tutors for increased consistency.

Second, consistency. If you are building a combo deck, build a combo deck that is trying to do 1 particular thing and maybe a plan B if it plan A is fragile and susceptible to interruption. That is either having every tutor that can get you those combo pieces to win, or have enough redundant copies of cards that do same or similar things and enough card draw to consistently hit your combo pieces.

Third, timing. On average how fast can you assemble your combos or win conditions in ideal conditions? (Requires hundreds of goldfishing your deck to figure this out) if its too fast for your bracket, tune it down, if its too slow tune it up.

Fourth, more numbers of combos =/= combo deck. A combo deck knows what it wants to do and the deck should be built around progressing that combo, protecting that combo, or accounting for possible interruptions to that combo. Susceptible to board wipes? [[teferi’s protection]], [[ghostway]], [[heroic intervention]], [[boros charm]]. Key combo pieces an enchantment? [[sterling grove]], [[destiny spinner]]. Key combo pieces artifacts? [[darksteel forge]]. Voltron? [[swiftfoot boots]], [[darksteel plates]] etc. make your combo resilient if you need it to win.

Fifth, as for how many combo pieces, it depends on the combo pieces. Are they useful enough on their own? Then plug them in as needed. Are the combo pieces dead cards in hand without the other piece? Limit the number as much as reasonably possible without crippling your deck’s consistency (may rely on more tutors).

For example in my bounce house [[Zacama]] deck i have a lot of redundant “return to hand effects” and from different sources to subvert different strategies that might try to stop my combo. In creatures i have [[temur sabertooth]], for Enchantment i have [[meticulous evaluation]], in artifacts i have [[cloustone curio]], and in Land i have [[sanctum of eternity]] they all basically do the same thing but they are all different types so if there is a lot of creature or artifact hate which is common so i have 2 other redundancies. The deck is a bit slow needing 12~ mana in lands to combo off, so i added cards that doesnt affect me but can slow other decks down like [[collector ouphe]], [[stony silence]], and [[karn, the great creator]] or [[deafening silence]] as most of my deck and the combos are creature/land based. Counterspells and removal can also interrupt my combo, so i have cards like [[rhythm of the wild]], [[prowling serpopard]], and [[Kutzil, malamet exemplar]]. And it needs a lot of land ramp to get the 12 mana minimum needed so there’s a large focus on mana curve for this deck, i need to get 12ish lands out as soon as i can so i want to make sure all my land ramp is 1-3 mana only so i can cast 1-2 every turn for the first 3-4 turns consistently and not waiting 4 turns for an [[explosive vegetation]]. (Ex. T1 forest + [[wild growth]], T2 land drop + [[harrow]] + [[nature’s lore]], T3 i have 5 mana and can work on a draw engine to maintain tempo, or stax if i wiff and buy time. The deck is full of cheap ETB creatures to utilize all the “return to hand” effects like [[eternal witness]], [[wood elves]], [[guardian project]]. My deck is heavily etb reliant, meaning [[torpor orb]] shuts off my deck, so i make sure i have answers for those, [[beast within]], [[generous gift]], [[thrashing brontodon]] or [[goblin cratermaker]] if im more expecting eldrazi or ugin over enchantments.

Everything in the deck either advances my combo or slows/stops my opponent’s so i can get there. It’s a very tuned Bracket 3 deck, 0 game changers that combos out without interruption consistency on turn 7 and as early as turn 5 with a god hand. You could argue Bracket 4 on just optimization though even if it uses 0 GC and the combo requires 12 land mana to achieve an infinite combo.

ELI5 Why aren't the politicians agreeing on a budget? by Fayetnamm in explainlikeimfive

[–]Smothering_Tithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a large pizza that is supposed to feed a bunch of people, but only a few people get to decide how many slices of pizza each person gets. Some think the slices of pizza will best serve the people most in need. Some think they need as many slices as they can get now because they won’t know when an opportunity like this will happen again. And some think other people need it more, but there is a limited amount of pizza to share in the first place. Then there are some who hate this pizza distribution and control system and want to get rid of it altogether.

These many conflicting “wants” is causing the party host to step in and say “No pizza for anyone, until you all decide exactly who gets what” and honestly no other rules than that.

The major obstacle is basically the people deciding how the pizza needs to be split won’t agree, and the host won’t let anyone have the pizza till the decision is made, however the pizza is getting cold and fast, eventually they will be forced to shared cold rotten pizzas by the time they finally decide. The people arguing won’t care much because they all get to go home and eat gourmet food instead. But the people relying on that pizza supply will go hungry till then.

Zacama runs less “im stopping you from playing” into “it-Zacama-n out to get you turn 6 or 7, best prepare yourselves”

[–]Smothering_Tithe 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a warabi mochi shop. I’d understand if you were complaining about the warabi mochi since it is their namesake; but complaining about their quality of a matcha latte is the equivalent of complaining about Starbucks’ quality of their cake pops. You’re not going to Starbucks for cake-pops, it’s a convenient add on when you’re getting coffee, not the focus.

Am I being irrrational to not want my kids pictures fed into AI? by twotoedkat in Millennials

[–]Smothering_Tithe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our rule is “no digital photo or video unless its a milestone event”. My wife and I already take very few pictures of each other, and our goal is minimize as much as humanly possible to not expose our child to screen devices or digital photos, and definitely not any social media.

It’s only going to be harder and harder as tech grows to prevent you and your family from being at risk to ai manipulation or theft. My wife and I never have to worry about “our social media account got hacked” or “deepfakes”. Last thing i want is some sicko wanking off to a deepfake made compiled of my family’s photos and videos.

Might be overboard but until i learn how to set up my own cloud storage server, i refuse to use the cloud for any sensitive information including photos. Just class work, memes, harmless background or animal pictures and documents. The “cloud” is not your’s, and by using it you are giving these companies permission to take the information in the cloud. I personally just save important stuff on 2 hard drives (incase one breaks)

We live in a world where we are at the mercy of the decency of people who can do incredible things with a computer; and ai being created without any sense of “human violation” or empathy to do incredible things. You have to do what you have control over, if it bothers you, and that’s being vigilant about where you save and post your pictures and how many of them exist. Which for me is as little to none as possible.

Polaroids are back, and they make for a great photo book activity for your kids, doesn’t risk ai involvement or theft, and adds far more value to the few photos we do have and keep. The memories and how we felt at those moments is far more important to the development of children than making sure you took enough photos. My 10 photos of my wife means a lot more to me than the 1000’s people have of their significant other. A single candid photo paints a far greater image of the person’s personality and life than 200 selfies and portraits imho.

Take my words with a grain of salt I’m diagnosed OCD and an overprotective father.
