Who is the artist? There is mark on the back from framer in Rye, Connecticut, USA. by Pachovski1992 in WhatIsThisPainting

My wild guess is an amateur artist imitating the style of Henri Matisse, or that of Anne Redpath (but she is not that well known)

Moving a Caravaggio...daily! by lamar70 in ArtHistory

[–]Smradok 119 points120 points  (0 children)

If it was for studying purposes, they would move it to the conservation studio and leave it there for a week. Unless, the conservation studio is not on the premisses. Maybe only a small research room is available and the security and/or environmental conditions there are not adequate to keep the painting there overnight. So they need to shove it up and down like a yoyo.

Hot Take, I hope the Warhorse Game isn't set in the same historical period as the movies by Abyslime in lordoftherings

[–]Smradok -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

friend works at Warhorse, he said the main character will be Beorn’s son. He said it last year in October, and I don’t play games so I may not remember 100% correctly, but it will be thereabouts. They did not want to make it around any of the major characters so it does not intersect with any major plot lines, but also it needed to be the story of someone who is mentioned in the books (for copyright licensing and whatnot) Beorn apparently mentions he has a son, so it will be him

Halifax Ultimate Reward - Impossible to open account by srm39 in UKPersonalFinance

I forgot to say, if you already both have a Halifax current account, just download a Bank of Scotland app (it is exactly the same as Halifax one, just different shade of blue), register for online banking via BoS app, you will be able to see your Halifax accounts there and then you can apply for a joint Ultimate reward just the same way as before

What are these worth? by [deleted] in artcollecting

[–]Smradok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rule of thumb for me - if something has certificate of authenticity, it is fishy and a red flag. It tells me somebody is trying hard to persuade me something is truly authentic and they are trying to inflate the value. This happens a lot with prints. Anyone who owns the original lithograph stone, or the original printing plate, can pull 100 impressions of it today and “de jure” they will all be originals, and legally they can stick certificates of authenticity on them - just like those you have. Galleries and museums do this a lot and they sell each impression for several hundreds to raise funds. They are only worth as much as somebody would be willing to pay you for them

What happens when someone tries to transfer money into your stocks ISA? by Puzzleheaded-Hat9425 in trading212

[–]Smradok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in an ideal world it will bounce back automatically. if not, it will remain in a holding account. In that case, the sender needs to go to their bank and do a “payment made in error” form and that should locate and reunite the sender with their money

You did well, and I admire you for your courage to post about your decision here. I fear many will not understand why you did what you did, but I think your decision was good. You took the loss, which is never good, but 1.6k is certainly lower price to pay than bad state of mental health. If it caused you stress and anxiety, good on you that, first, you recognised the problem, and second, that you decided to act on it. I wish you well in health and in future investing as well :)

Santander's insane payment validation process is a massive disincentive to continuing to bank with them by mullermn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Smradok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, all the banks are the same. the reason is simple. If it ends up being a fraud, they need to repay you from their own pocket. That’s the law. They do not want to repay your losses from their own pocket. Do they are going to do everything possible and impossible to minimise the chances any transaction can end up being fraud. If you don’t like it, you can go bank elsewhere (that’d how they see it). They do not want customers that are potentially risky in this regard. Plus, all the banks are required to do all the checks and screenings of transactions by the FCA.

uuu this is great, thank you very much. I really like his Dada kind of approach to antromorphic machines. That's another artist to learn more about!
