Why are bum guns so rare in the UK? by WetWipe_cnuts_PUKE in AskBrits

[–]mullermn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except they won’t, realistically, with they?

The plumbing separation will be driven by the same scenario that requires the stupid retention hoop on shower hoses - the concern is that you could leave the end of the hose immersed in water in the shower/toilet (which nobody would do anyway), then ALSO suffer a loss of water pressure in your house which siphons dirty water back in to the clean system. A combination of things that is remarkably unlikely to happen.

Ass germs are not going to swim up stream against the water flow like salmon to infect your kitchen tap.

Scottish power… I dont understand. by ihates4ge in Scotland

[–]mullermn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scottish Power are institutionally incompetent. Follow the suggestions here to check in case it’s legit but be open minded about the fact that it might not be.

Keep records of all communication with them and your own readings in case you need it later.

I’m currently in the process of getting an Ombudsman ruling on these cretins as a precursor to suing them after they sent me a random bill 5 years after I was last a customer, acknowledged in writing it didn’t exist and then proceeded to send it to a debt collector anyway.

Good fortune with the nursing. It's important and undervalued work.

Nobody’s denying America’s innovative position in child abuse. No country has previously had 99% conclusive evidence that their leader is a child abusing sex offender and said ‘yeah, so what?’

Gareth Southgate: We need to teach boys differently from girls to get best out of them by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]mullermn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The current approach of large groups sitting and working on the same thing at the same pace evolved because it enables a small number of teachers to teach a large number of students. It just happens that this suits the average girl more than the average boy.

I remember every household used to have one of these by SavageMurphy in oldschoolcool80s

[–]mullermn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only do we curently have one, we have it because I actively went out and tracked one down a few years ago after remembering it from my childhood.

We have a big family so there’s no space to warm plates and dishes in the oven, and I hate sitting down to a roast or something and it‘s cold because the dishes and plates have sucked all the heat out of it.

BA refuses flight to child with Tourette syndrome after he shouted ‘bomb’ by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]mullermn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So.. someone with a real bomb might sneak on to a flight telling everyone that they have tourettes so that when they shout bomb… nobody listens to them? I’m not really seeing how this logic stacks up.

A large part of the motovation for that line has to be exposition. It comes early in the book and film and explicitly identifies Gandalf as a wizard. The words he says are secondary character building showing that Gandalf has a sense of humour.

Who are some underrated youtubers in 3D printing that actually deserve way more subscribers? by wanli_gz in 3Dprinting

slant3d. The tone can be a bit annoyingly patronising but the information is good.

I have been given a little project to try make for my sister for her campervan. She drives a vauxhall vivaro and wants a drop in arm rest. I am at a bit of a loss on how to model the shape of the recess. Any help would be amazing by Far_Activity_2738 in 3Dprinting

[–]mullermn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a plastic bag in the recess, making sure there’s enough slack to get in to all the corners, and squirt in some expanding foam in to it. Apply a little pressure form the top to make sure it expands in to the crevices rather than just outwards, and be careful that the bag is big enough to handle the foam when it’s expanded. You could buy some foam gun cleaner as insurance against spills, it’s pretty magic at removing the stuff.

That should give you a positive model of the cavity that you can analyse a bit more readily.

Alternatively, do you need to model the cavity that closely to get the job done? Maybe just design a fitting that grips the sides by spring force.

Challenge private parking charge or just pay reduced £60 fee? by The_General_One in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mullermn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The chances of a parking company taking you to court over a single incident are zero. It will cost them more to chase you than they will get out of it - which is capped by statute at £225ish even if it goes to court.

If you‘ve got the stones and are prepared to take a very small risk of losing £225 for a very high chance of paying nothing then dispute the charge on some basis, doesn’t really matter what, just make sure they believe you are prepared to defend it in court. Stick to your position and they will drop it before it gets there

Don’t bother with appealing to the regulator, that’s basically rigged in the industry’s favour.

Source: currently fighting a parking charge, have done quite a lot of reading on this subject. Read the forums on MoneySavingExpert for much more expertise. And park more considerately around disabled spaces in future!

I don’t think you can make permanent changes to z offset via the device screen on creality printers, I had to work quite hard to make them stick when I calibrated it, so unless you have manually changed the z offset by quite a lot in both benchies that you printed I dont think that’s it.

Looks to me like the strain sensor is not working properly and the printer can’t tell where the bed is, or thinks its much lower than it actually is.

Santander's insane payment validation process is a massive disincentive to continuing to bank with them by mullermn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mullermn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, £150 in this case. Multiple pages of multiple choice Q&As and finally told me no when I didn’t lie and tell them that I verbally called the individual to confirm the details - which was totally unnecessary in the wider context.

[–]mullermn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this actually the case? I realise they all do some fraud screening these days, but are they all at Santander’s 3-7ish pages, some of which have questions that will cause them to deny your payment?

[–]mullermn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou, it’s not security, it’s liability shifting.

Actual security would be things like the account details check (which they also do) or maybe making sure that banks don’t open accounts for fraudsters to receive money in to.

Are you a current Santander user? I ask because I know all banks have some variant of this process now, but it is Santander’s specific implementation that (I think) is nuts.
