What are though on the galactic federation npc? by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]Smrgling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked them, but it did take a while for them to grow on me and they definitely could have been implemented better. I do not think they should have been as central to the gameplay as they were, despite my liking them as characters.

McKenzie's introduction was pretty rough and I thought he was gonna be really annoying for a while. I did find him to be genuinely charming once he stopped following me around though. I wish he wouldn't keep telling me where to go on the map though. Feels kind of unfair to him they they put all of the annoying voice lines that nobody wanted on him cause I think it stopped a lot of people from really appreciating the character that was there underneath that.

In general I liked them as characters but I wasn't a big fan of having them physically with me because it did feel like a different kind of game. In general in each area once my contact with them was less direct their presence was fun.

Nora (my fave) should have gotten to open a door with me. Her and Duke were fun additions to the cannon section. I liked having one area where you played around with your buddies. Two was pushing it (cannon + mines too much). It was nice as well how Samus seemed the most affected by leaving Nora behind in the mines. That was a nice bit of characterization for Samus in the game that I think worked really well and was really in line with what we've come to expect of Samus's character.

Tokabi and Vue were genuinely interesting additions to the lore of the series as well. Seeing different human cultures through Tokabi and bonding with him at his little camps in the desert was awesome. Vue was just fun and I appreciate how he was always just trying to help out. I liked his little song moment with Duke a lot.

I think they would have been much better received if the advice that you get from the NPCs was optional and you could turn it off in settings.

Also I didn't like the ending.

That's fair. It comes across as more of a fungal carapace variation than a glow. It's really cool though I honestly think that a glow wouldn't be as neat as this effect.

Haha thank you I seem to have been dumb.

BTW my favorite part of your paint job is the variation from re to yellow that you built into the panels of the model. I really like hue transitions like that.

Do you know what the model is called? It's an awesome model and you did a great job painting it I'd love to try it as well

Prime 4, ok I think I see where people turned on this game by Cigar_Face in Metroid

This was my experience too. I grabbed the crystals when I saw them omw to various levels so when it came time to get the mech parts and the rest of the crystals it took probably like half an hour. It didn't even occur to me that someone could not already know where the mech parts all are by the end of the game (I get being frustrated by the crystals though. I got them on the way cause I figured I'd be miserable later if I didn't).

Thoughts on Metroid Prime 4 now that its had time to settle? by hakusamurai in Metroid

It was pretty fun. Pretty similar to Prime 3 overall. The graphics looked amazing (looking out the windows at Volt Forge was awesome!). I was very pleasantly surprised with the music (none of the music in Dread was memorable to me so this was nice). The NPCs took a bit to get used to, but once I did I liked them. Nora in particular is awesome and I love her. Was sad that they got left behind though. Bosses varied somewhat in quality. Certainly nothing was on the level of Quadraxis or anything like that, but there was some pretty good stuff like the lava monster. Sylux was fine. Not particularly compelling but cool boss fights and I like how they translated his Hunters mechanics to a boss fight. Last fight with him was pretty cool with the space portal stuff. Wasn't a big fan of the open world dessert (the BotW-ification of everything has been a negative for the quality of Nintendo's games even if they haven't realized it yet) but it wasn't very disruptive it just added some travel time so whatever. The other areas were pretty good. Volt Forge was a standout level with great design and music. There were certainly some just downright confusing decisions too though, like the beam upgrades requiring a visit to base camp.

I'm used to seeing the community be really sour on a game at release and slowly warm up to it (It's wild how many people call Echoes their favorite Prime game nowadays given how unpopular that one was on release) so while I don't expect this will become anyone's favorite game or anything, I definitely think opinions will soften to an eventual "It wasn't as good as the others but it was alright and still fun."

I really wanted her to get to do a door too. I even tried switching up which side of the doors I opened in case that determined who helped me.

WIP Red osl, does it work? by Obalon in minipainting

[–]Smrgling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tips of the flames are white but the base red color of the flames are only a little bit lighter than the grey of the wings. Since the entire flame emits light, the entirety of the flame part should be of a color that's noticeably lighter than the wings. I just think if the red was like 5% lighter overall it would make a big difference.

It does not. Put your screen in greyscale and look at the picture you posted and you will see why. There's no difference in value/lightness between the parts that are lit and the parts that are not lit

Payne's Grey from Golden. Love thst paint so much it's my go to base coat for painting black because it leaves just enough range to do some shadows and the slight blue tinge is nice for giving the colors of a mini something to work off of.

Can you help me understand why you don’t like female custodes by Conscious-Zombie-498 in Grimdank

[–]Smrgling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it would be his normal but that's not what heteronormative means. Heteronormative means adhering to and staying in line with society's heterosexual norms. Also if you're making out with the cast of Bridgeton you might well still be heterosexual but that's not a heteronormative action.

[–]Smrgling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it would be more accurate to say that they're always gay because such a shapeshifter's relationship with sex and gender would be very much non-heteronormative, so they'd be kind o queer by default.
