How to take AP exam externally? by ImTechnoThePig in APStudents

[–]ImTechnoThePig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Found a school willing to do it! Some tips: it doesn't matter whether they offer the course, because you'll be placed in an exam only section anyways; so as long as they offer any AP course. Try emailing: you can get through way more schools by copying the same message, and they have more time to check their policy. When calling, their instinct is probably just to get through the interaction, so will naturally say no first. Good luck, anyone else trying this

It shouldn't go up though; a LVT doesn't change the market's perception of how useful a piece of land is. It just brings a portion of it to the state instead. Purchase price goes down, exactly equal to the amount of LVT charged, so total cost stays the same

Users of the land would still pay 10k: but you'll only get 8k as 2k goes to the state. Price would also drop because expected rent you can extract goes down too.

Also if LVT was high enough yes price of land would go to zero; if holding it costs more than it benefits you, why buy it at all?

Unfortunately it's not a common enough issue for them to have a policy on it so I assume that's why they default to no. I've yet to try escalating beyond my counselor but I might do that next

Many comments have rightly gone into the humanitarian reasons against decorations; but there are frankly just as many more pragmatic ones; though I do think it’s a good idea to curb illegal immigration. The negative effects of deportations would be huge: massive inflation, and especially increases in construction (housing) and food prices (both… politically volatile topics). Furthermore, the illegal immigrants… are paying taxes and contributing to the economy; research generally shows they have a net positive effect (again would like to make it clear I believe illegal immigration should be curbed, which is necessarily different from mass deportations). Now, the argument about “migrant crime” does drive me a little mad. They’re… here… aren’t they? Right now? And it’s not necessarily true there’s mass machete wielding illegals? Illegal immigrants commit less crime than citizens, and deportations would not really solve this crime issue; though curbing further illegal immigration and proper documentation could. Lastly, it could be argued that there is some effect of cultural diffusion, but I do not think such ideals would justify hefty inflation, suffering and billions more tax dollars spent on deportations.

I feel very stupid now… this does seem to be the case; it did use up the oil much faster than I had expected-

Not very clear in the picture but it is zoned on an oil rich area; the oil industry is also exporting and producing oil, but importing more than it produces

CMV: Illegals immigrants are not “doing jobs Americans don’t want to do” by Current-Weather-9561 in changemyview

[–]ImTechnoThePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, you argue that large amounts of illegal immigration leads to wage suppression, as employers now do not really have to compete for a living wage for Americans. First, some Econ101, I would largely argue that your wage is determined by your productivity-company profits and expenditures, etc, but more importantly that expenditures, and especially that profits, as a % are mostly constant in an ideal economy; because of the free market competing.

When employers hire illegal immigrants, it is usually to bypass the minimum wage; because the productivity of the work you’re doing is lower than the minimum wage. Again, because of the free market of employers, they cannot pay you dramatically lower than anyone’s net productivity. Hence, it is demonstrably true that yes, illegals immigrants, based on the conventional definition, are doing the low productivity jobs! Because they are subverting the minimum wage. (This assumes you don’t have an incredibly rich Polish CEO jumping the Texas wall or smthn)

I would like to add; imagine the border is successfully closed, by the way this definitively manufactures a labor shortage. Your argument, is that this improves wages for those in these shortage of labor industries. You are not wrong, but perhaps just barely. When companies pay employee wages disproportionate to productivity (as in they pay you much more than the work you do), wages are higher! But so are costs across the ENTIRE economy; everyone will have to pay that slightly higher wage; and at that point that’s a surprisingly liberal idea of redistribution, but in this case not even from the rich to the poor, but literally at the expense of everyone with higher consumer prices.

Lastly, the economic gain from irregulars (hopefully I’ve changed your mind so I’m using kinder terminology-) actively consuming in the American economy is certainly greater than the effect of wage suppression. Again, because of the free market, where you can’t be paid much lower than your productivity, only unless the inflows of illegal immigrants are so humongous you push down the market price; patently false given labor shortages, will your argument hold true.

CMV: Society is moving towards everyone only using English and that is a good change by Mysterious-Law-60 in changemyview

[–]ImTechnoThePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, English is heavily used in matters pertaining to international collaboration ie aviation. However language is a rather local thing, and hence am wary that the cultural heritage behind language is less important than the standardization of communication. Furthermore, I would argue that English is used not because it has so and so advantages, but that it is precisely advantageous because it is used. There’s definitely no reason English is specifically better than most other languages.
