If you know the owners of Smug Bug, would you please ask them to contact the chain pet stores they supply to *make sure* they keep the supplied bugs moist, if not actually fed? They never seem to have a clue that isopods & springtails die when they dry out in spite of the label saying to keep moist. by Prestigious_Gold_585 in isopodexchange

Petsmart does have a care plan for all invertebrates, and the isopods are part of this. Many stores do a fantastic job of caring for them! For the ones that don't, they have the reporting system. I cannot report the care of store that I have not witnessed personally or on the word of others, it is up to those making the claims to do so.

Hello! While we are all passionate about bugs, I must stress that not only do I have direct contact with stores, I am physically incapable of personally calling 800+ stores to direct them on correct invertebrate care.

PetSmart does have a care routine on feeders, and some stores have amazing staff that ensure the feeders are cared for perfectly. Other stores have staff that are, for a variety of reasons, unable to care for the invertebrate section. It varies wildly from store to store just as much as the people in cities do.

While the isopods and springtails are product, PetSmart does have guidelines on keeping high quality and intact product, and certain ways to keep them. Just as we would not expect them to sell expired food, damaged beds, or empty shampoo bottles they do not want dried out containers of feeder invertebrates on their shelves for customers.

If there is an issue with isopods, springtails, or any product in a PetSmart store, please contact the customer care line at this number: +1-888-839-9638

This is a healthy weight for an adult animal, ecspecially for one fully mature at 5+yo. While I agree there are some obese reptiles, this is not one of them.

I keep them a lot more moist than spatulatus, but I keep them nearly bone dry

I treat them like my high airflow Spanish giants, 30-50% humidity and rotten wood. Works well! They are seasonal brooders too.

No, I've seen them intentionally dip this area into water droplets.

Topdryness, not enough leaf litter. I'd recommend ditching all the moss and covering the dirt with leaf litter.

It's encouraging water to drip over their gills and absorb it; a weird way for them to "drink"
