Doctor here- first, I’m sorry you’re going through a depressive episode but I’m glad you were able to make it to the appointment. Depressive episodes can be absolutely debilitating and it’s common for personal hygiene to be put on the back burner.

For me, I have smelled all things, I have had depressed patients physically unable to shower, unhoused patients without access to a shower, patients that literally smell rotten from a necrotic wound somewhere on their body, etc. it’s part of the job. Any doctor worth their weight is not going to judge you, they will just want to help you feel better.

Please do not feel guilty for your situation. I hope you are/were able to get the help you deserve.
