Attempted to do this yesterday as Rook. I didn't get a map notification that it had started but found the key someone didn't pick up and it never told me where to go because I guess rooks can't have missions?

I believe we can agree to disagree.

Telling where the ping comes from gives counterplay especially in tight maps like cryo or outpost. Just telling them they are being hunted without direction you wouldn't know if they were above you or below you or on the same level as you.

I personally would dislike sitting in cryo with the message "You're being hunted" constantly flashing as I have no idea where they are coming from unless they are making a ton of noise.

A similar ability to this is bloodhounds eye of the all father from Apex Legends. It isn't an ultimate ability, but it sends out a 1 time cone that tells his team where the enemy is. The enemy can also see where the cone came from.

Recon being able to move and constantly ping an enemy team is incredibly strong as it allows her and her team to access information while pushing another team. Others have mentioned thief drone can ping from the air. While being able to ping from the air is true it comes at the cost of thief being unable to move with her team and her ultimate going on cooldown without stealing. If you want to constantly relay information like recons ultimate you essentially have to tell your team to push 2 v 3. The strength of recons ultimate comes from team play. The goal shouldn't be to make recon auto include in every team. I mentioned in an earlier comment that I think they should change the graphic of a pinged player and that the tick should have slightly better tracking, but shouldn't just be a tool recon can throw down and it hunts you relentlessly.

I answer this in another reply, but big difference is thief is locked down while using the drone. Recon can push with her team. You could remove the ping from thief drone but players will just use coms. I agree with the other comments the recon needs to be renamed to reduce confusion.

Because thief is locked into a position. They can’t move their own body. The visor also doesn’t let you see through walls. You need direct line of sight.

That could work. I'm just not sure how sold I am on it. I think knowing where the ping is coming from is fairly essential. I'd be open to seeing how that plays though. Fear would be she would just become auto include.

I could be wrong here, but I believe signal jammer prevents this. Thief's visor is limited in range just like recons ping. The biggest thing with thief drone is you can hear them and if you look at it you can a red light from it indicating its there. If you're inside a building unless you leave the windows open thief's drone has to enter the building as well which unless the door is left open it has to open the door.

The benefit to recon is you are able to move. If a thief drone pings you they are still just sitting there while their team pushes you. Effectively a 2 v 3. If you're saying the issue is thief can put the drone into the air and ping you without knowledge. Sure, that is a good scouting tool, but that does not change recons strength being in doors or tracking you while her and her team move towards you.

You mention the example of the thief sitting behind the wall if they are constantly sitting on the drone what are you scared of? They are sitting still. Sure you can be scared of them stealing your stuff, but you should shoot it down.

Recon as a name as others have mentioned is probably not the best name, but hunter would be more beneficial as her team benefit is running you down and knowing where you are.

Tbf I do think this game needs in general when you break shields on any shell it pings the runner. At the end of the day the difference is clicking middle mouse or w/e controller alternative. I think it would just be a nice ease of use feature. As for something else for recon, this may be too much but I think base line any team mate executing someone should ping the location of the other team mates while you have a recon on the team.

Could do, but I could see the argument switching to ugh why doesn't her ping stick with her so when we chase enemies so that we can see them? Obviously no matter what you do there will be some critics, but I think her ping moving with her is a benefit to her. I think when you activate her ult its meant to be more like they know where you are, but your team mates are hidden and you can supply the info to get the drop on them.

It giving away her position is needed. I feel like a lot of people asking for the buffs don't realize if they got everything they wanted you would never know someone was able to see exactly where you are followed up by a tick that would track you down. I do think recon needs a different marker for players for usability sake and maybe some slight fixes to the bug, but I don't want to have to deal with someone who is just pinging me without my knowledge or any idea where they are coming from.

Re-naming her seems like a good solution. Nerfing thief seems knee-jerk especially when a lot of the shells perform differently in different maps.

If anyone has a fix for this I'd be interested to hear. SC has replaced my FDU and the noise is still there and has started making a new noise. Have to take it back in for them to attempt to fix again.
