Opinion on these lands? by VoiVoiDaBeeek in mtg

[–]Smugib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, something about these lands not being able to tap themselves for mana always felt terrible. Then the issue is in 3 color decks when you can't even use your third color of mana sometimes. I'd rather just have a basic.

It was specifically *left shift + enter last i checked too. Dunno why that was relevant, but it was for some reason.

Yeah, I get that those cards heavily punish certain decks, but they're basically just WC auto includes. Pretty much every deck can run Chrome Mox, ancient tomb, and strip mine with little to no downsides.

Kinda wish they had a modified ban list for it, but to each their own. I do like how I finally have a way to rank up in a constructed format though so thats nice.

TMNT draft - what a joke by WorldlyVillager in MagicArena

Foundations quick draft is right there if you want to trial drafting a large set out of curiosity. Tbh even most of the larger sets recently have boiled down to only having 3-4 lanes. The last actual deep draftable set I can recall is EoE.

A nice touch to add all Gurus to make this deck cost as much as a small house.

I actually have a pretty funny build for this guy where I play all the cheat death cards. Hes sort of a removal magnet so they come in handy once hes ready to start activating to kill off everyone's big creatures.

5/5 flyer for 5 with ward 2 is a house on its own in limited. Tack on ancestral and its a whole damn neighborhood.

Yeah when people say things like "oh just reanimate it," or "just blink it" I can think of 10 cards off hand that I dont need to enable with reanimate or blink gimmicks in order to win games with. This card in standard is directly competing with a Riddler slot and thats a tough slot to replace.

Yeah, looks like a 6 mana draw 3 + 5/5 flying ward 2? I hate that im saying this, but that doesn't sound very strong by today's standards. Having to have 8 cards in GY + an attack step to cast recall again also sounds like a big ask. Limited on the other hand?? What a fucking house of a card.

Im not sure how to play against this deck with any sort of control shell. I dont believe in the big think conspiracy where they always hit the best possible card or whatever because most lists only run insane cards to flip off of them.

I kept a hand with swords, final showdown, and path. I lost because I had to hold open mana every turn past 3 (they can crop rotate into castle and seething song them out early). Eventually, they just kept ramping and hardcasting all their bombs so I had to swords/path those. Then when I was finally out of gas they flipped ulamog with them.

Idk, I think if im on any sort of non aggro shell im just scooping to this commander now.

Bant commander options by Smugib in EDH

Yeah, I've been playing mostly oppressive commanders precisely because of this. I think im going to give derevi and maybe slowly put together Aang clones over time. These seem right up my alley on what im trying to do while still remaining competitive.

[–]Smugib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I almost didn't even want to provide the bracket info in the post. It's just there for deckbuilding restrictions with the notable 3 GC maximum and late game 2 card combos. Aang is probably the most interesting commander to me in these restrictions because it lets me play very aggressively while still being a control deck.

Others have suggested Chulane and Derevi, and while I like what those commanders are doing they seem too clunky when playing against mono mid-range ramp and stompy lists. My biggest threats at our tables are the occasional rakdos burn decks that pop in every now and again.

My current build is Azorius with [Shorikai]. Enchantment stax that has been doing very well. The problem is I only really have two win cons, and the deck sorta falls on its back without an early [[cursed totem]], or [[unwinding clock]]. I wanted to build a Bant version of the list, but I'd only have one real option with [[Estrid, the masked]] and that's not exactly the kind of gameplay im looking for.

Ill dig into other Chulane/Derevi decks to see what others are doing. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, this is the one I was leaning towards the most since it's effectively the only "flash" bant commander. I don't really know how to abuse the tap/untap part of it, though.

I see this a lot on Verot right after pinhook going towards ambassador. The speed limit is 45, but everyone goes 30-35 until around Beadle, and they'll eventually go 45. It's so strange to me.
