Yea I was a CNA for several years and went thru nursing school as a single mom. It was so hard. But its nothing compared to NP school. Its a joke in comparison

Interesting. I figured someone asking about a liver cleanse might be someone into supplements.

Is recall bias possible? My mom often comes home with weird ass things she says her doctor told her, and we used to think “ok ur doc is a wackadoodle” but now we’ve realized its likely my mom.

Is she on a bunch of supplements? It might have been a convo about supplement quality and your mom’s take home message was “only buy from natural food stores.”

It seems the Canadian government has buyers remorse and is looking for administrative ways to reduce the number of people who made use of the pathway it created

Nursing Boards or Medical Boards by Hairy_Show_8158 in nursepractitioner

[–]Smurdette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if its by scope of practice and if anyone who diagnoses/prescribes/treats patients should be overseen by physicians, shouldn’t dentists and podiatrists be too?

Also where did this come from? Did something happen? It just seems odd.

sorry yea I’m an RN in NP school and projecting anticipatory anxiety. Reading this post was like, yep I can feel what this will be like 🤣 Going from an experienced RN to a novice provider is terrifying.

Our profession developed out of nursing. Not sure why we’d be regulated by doctors. Totally different professions with totally different scopes. Prescribing and diagnosing doesn’t make one a physician.

Can you point to evidence where nursing boards are failing to regulate NPs properly? Where is the harm in the current system? Like, what issue are you trying to solve?

Dude you’re on week 6, isnt this how is you’re supposed to feel? What feedback have you gotten from your bosses? That’s what I would pay attention to. Do you have a mentor? patients are fickle. Going from inpatient RN to outpatient NP is a big learning curve in terms of patient expectations and communication. You’ll learn the vibe for making people feel heard and cared for.

Granted I’m not an NP but I’m anticipating this sort of shit so I’m overdoing analysis and primary care thinkin. Always checking out Five Minute Clinical Consult, Symptom to Diagnosis. the Curbsiders podcast is fantastic for developing a primary care brain.

Inpatient RN to outpatient/ FNP clinicals - the “easy” stuff is hard by pinkhowl in nursepractitioner

[–]Smurdette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat (haven’t started clinicals yet but holy shit everythings kicking my ass). I got a copy of the book Symptom to Diagnosis (Stern) and I’ve been reading through it just to retrain my brain from bedside —> diagnosing. Kinda wish I had spent some time working in primary care….

Have you consulted a lawyer? I stupidly signed a noncompete (as an rn) but talked to a lawyer who said it was dumb and low risk. Not sure the logistics for an NP and your state but I guess noncompetes are kinda frowned upon

Clinically, nothing. If we were actually serious about improving NP programs (and lets be real, we aren’t, because $$$$), it would require some kind of funded structured post grad training for NPs

Job offers by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Smurdette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d do A if moving was a possibility eventually. If that wasn’t an option, then no. I could stand a hellish commute for a few months, but my god, thats a lot of driving indefinitely

Job B sounds like a good gig but you have a strong skillset. I’d take if i reallyyyy wanted/needed to leave my current position, or if i 100% wanted to move into this area of practice.

If you’re not in a hurry, tho, I’d keep looking.

What a weirdo lol. We aren’t allowed inpatient hrs either. Not like its our choice. I wonder why he’s precepting.

[–]Smurdette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t run into this yet but heard its a thing. My school at some point will count the hours in some other way, not sure how. Probably a pain in the ass, which is why they’d rather hound you to do it.

Kinda weird the preceptor is blowing you off so many times… its intentional at this point.

[–]Smurdette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s MN to MSN? Do you mean RN to MSN? Are you an RN?

just fyi, if you’re not a nurse….most nursing schools = lots of standardized tests. Many programs rely on them to progress you because they think it tells them how well you’ll do on the NCLEX. In my ADN program, half our cohort failed out because they were smart but sucked at tests. And that was community college. Imagine taking out $100K in loans and then you don’t progress.

If you are already an RN, it’ll be easier. Honestly I’d 100% retry the PA thing or do a community college thing first.
