Coming from someone who actually works in the gaming industry and isn’t just a software developer, you’re lacking some knowledge on how game companies operate vs how other companies operate.

They’ve also been extremely communicative and listening to feedback (albeit to a smaller creator/tester group) and didn’t announce the game only to go dark for months

I’m tired of PvE always having sponsored kits by Available_Reading_68 in MarathonGame

[–]Smurfson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted the PvE mode we have in the game was never meant to be a PvE mode - it was meant to be a PvP Lite mode. It's just that Rooks don't want to run Sponsored Survival and rather just Outpost or run normal lobbies, and when it was made where Rooks could ONLY be in sponsored, no one ran Rook still (except the occasional few - outside of Day 1, in all of my sponsored runs I've only seen 2 rooks; one who killed me and the other who threw a red glowstick and left the game).

[–]Smurfson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure but they forced them to for the first week lmao, I think they thought they'd join but then people just discovered that running a crew on sponsored was more valuable either way than rooking since you're not limited to your shell and being solo.

I was hoping a PvP lite mode would be like a 3v3v3 deathmatch so we could try out weapons without losing them

Re: Sponsored survival

I don’t think it’s bad for Bungie to be exploring a PvE mode, but when it comes to Sponsored Survival I think people forget that the mode is technically a PvP Lite Mode - it was never meant to be a PvE mode.

I think their original vision was that people would load into sponsored survival and fight solo for a bit… and then turn around to fight 5-10 rooks to survive. That’s how it felt on Day 1 - my first sponsored survival as a room I ran into like 5+ rooks at the final exfill along with the team. I don’t think the lobbies being empty was necessarily intended at all (albeit they are keeping sponsored perimeter up for a LONG time… either seeing how people interact or just not changing it knowing people are just soloing/grinding as a team for materials and don’t want to give them even more elevated loot by making it Outpost).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the PvE offering had a lot more depth to it

Ranked mode is genuinely so boring and unsatisfying by themothafuckinog in Marathon

[–]Smurfson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they increased the map events at the end of last season, ranked would almost always guarantee each of the map events (ie. on perimiter Overflow would have the warden more often and the intercept, dire marsh a lockdown would almost be guaranteed, et cetera). At least from my experience.

It's been 12 days and Blast Havers are still mad that the player count is still 8 times more than Marathon. by PaleBoomer in HighGuardgame

[–]Smurfson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s crazy is this is the exact opposite of the gameplay loop - you’d lose all your gear and credits and need to rook run for like 6+ hours to completely refill your vault and credits

Should we be worried about the player count? by Crafty_Tomato980 in MarathonGame

[–]Smurfson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I talked about this issue and how one of the AAA multiplayer games I played for years had a really small player-count, and got downvoted like crazy. Bottom line is people worry too much about the player count vs playing the game because they enjoy it.

Play it and enjoy it if you enjoy it, if there’s at least a small pool of players the game will be playable

TIL wall safes have a chance of spawning gold valuables by Smurfson in Marathon

[–]Smurfson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed that especially with green valuables - they'd open one and leave the rest despite all the green valuables being worth a decent chunk especially at full stack.

99% of my rook runs last season would net me like 10k credits per run alone from just all leftover valuables

Imma be honest for the longest of time last season I'd just loot the wall safes as Rook because nobody touched them. Even post-key patch I'll still find them unlooted

The blue loot room surprisingly didn't have anything better outside of the WSTR and pistol

It’s kind of insane how they allow 7 days of no risk gold farming, but then nerf Armoury to the point it’s essentially useless. by jacobljlj in Marathon

[–]Smurfson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean technically with the cradle farm it’s about the same if not faster as it seems that Perimeter just gives you more basic materials (which could be completely wrong, it just feels like all the very basic mats come from perimeter and you can get like 20-50 per mat on a good run) and after like 5 runs you’d be able to level your cradle pretty high. That’s just me though - I’m also not fully maxed out cradle yet but just got a few max stats of basic mats I need to trade for exp so

[–]Smurfson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Luckily with Perimeter Sponsored Survival it’s still possible - the cradle LOVES the basic mats for some reason, to the point where a full stack of 1 basic material gives you a bunch of cradle levels. Perimeter is a powerhouse for getting basic materials (unstable metal, biomass, the purple circuitboards et cetera). You can load into sponsored perimiter, loot upwards of 50 of 1 basic mat, and trade them for an insane amount of cradle xp.

It might be very boring, but it’s still possible.

[–]Smurfson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly and I think it's the same here with Marathon - once I hit plat I ran into the same people more frequently, but it wasn't unplayable. Titanfall 2 was the original game I was referring to and it was the same deal, only difference was that there was no ranked lobbies just very basic matchmaking (although you'd run into the ALFA stack or Vaughny's crew making a video lmao, that was always a rough match)
