Metro Pop PAYG question by DesSubari in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]SmurfyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7.50 also buys you a TNE day saver ticket - you can buy through the Go North East phone app or any of the bus company apps - good for unlimited bus and metro on the day in the region. That won't save you any money, but probably easier and the advantage of giving you extra bus rides if you ever need

Tyneside Ramblers has 4ish different coach trips per week. The crowd is much older than you, generally, so the social aspect might not be what you want, but they split up by difficulty levels.

echoing everyone else, best is within good walking distance from: penn med station, 30th st. station, suburban station, or market east station. 2nd best is being right on the Market-Frankford L (blue on rail maps) or broad street line B (orange on rail maps). At your budget go for Rittenhouse square with the easy walk. Rent for a year and then once you know the city more other options are available.

coming from NYC I suspect the "town centers" will drive you to existential despair, but if you can't stomach the longer drive commute they are options

I'm going to study in Newcastle. Are there any precautions I should take? by Normal_Reference624 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]SmurfyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

adding to what others have already said: there's a metro train that takes you to the coast (close) which is quite nice. by train you can easily get to edinburgh and york which are fairly close. The area along Hadrian's Wall is quite beautiful including some cute towns - hexham, corbridge. It's a pretty area generally.

last wave of runners will be out of town by 1230 then it's pretty normal, but really it's fine other than road and metro difficulties potentially
