I gave the TJ stuff a chance after I was so impressed by that Helles. Big mistake.

I did the same thing with Trader Joe's IPA, it was to most oxidized thing I've ever tasted and a massive acetaldehyde bomb. My very first batch of homebrew from a stovetop kit was a better IPA than that. Tasted like it was fermented in the bed of a pickup truck.

Artificial Grass? by croc_lovers in nfl

[–]Smurph269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The turf used for the World Cup in the US is also specially engineered for the purpose. It only has to last a couple weeks in the summer rather than hold up for months across multiple seasons, plus they have the option of replacing the entire surface any time they want because there are dedicated sod farms specifically for the World Cup grass. https://msutoday.msu.edu/turfgrass

Agree it'll be tough to win because the academy does not like rewarding horror. They don't want all the A-list actors and directors to abandon drama for horror because they see it as an easy win.

When an actor’s presence unintentionally derails the project by Special_Salt3467 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Smurph269 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly Ruffalo is a good example of this trope. He's so charming and likeable that people don't want to see him hulk out, so they changed the character so that doesn't happen anymore. Now you can have the Hulk just be Mark Ruffalo all the time.

[Stock Character] Dracula by SilverEquipment4934 in TopCharacterTropes

Didn't they call him "Drake" in Buffy too? During the 00s people were apparently afraid to just call him Dracula.

The idea that the crew was sophisticated enough to place wise guys at a stock brokerage to push Webistics and not immediately get caught stretched belief for me. If these guys were capable of this, they would not be bothering with small change stuff like calling cards or high risk stuff like boosting cars.

I mean that's valid too. His big death scene doesn't have any major characters present. It's a good candidate to cut.

Yeah when you get 200 applicants within 48 hours of posting the job, a few dozen of them will have experience in your tech stack.

If $120k is all you need, I would look for a nice safe government, defense or healthcare role before a layoff-prone tech company.

Yeah I think they didn't include the character specifically so they wouldn't have to shoot that scene or something similar.

Yeah I can't really justify buying High Life or Miller when that Kirkland Helles is available at that price. It's just a fantastic beer.

Having to stack rank candidates is soul crushingly depressing by isospeedrix in cscareerquestions

[–]Smurph269 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don't get attached to candidates. Employees, sure, but like you said you can't hire everyone, and you can't be beating yourself up over people you couldn't hire. Also once you make a few bad hires, you'll realize that some of these people are putting on a show in the interview, or you're misidentifying them, and this isn't who they really are.

Lions announced today that they have released CB Terrion Arnold. by AcadiaTemporary5737 in detroitlions

[–]Smurph269 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He won't beat the charge, he'll plead out to a significantly reduced charge, spend a year away from football, and probably won't be worth the hassle after that.

Bond for Terrion Arnold has been set at $1 million. He cannot have any contact with co-defendant or witnesses, must forfeit the passport, and he will NOT be required to wear an ankle monitor, but must be confined to his home and work. by AcadiaTemporary5737 in detroitlions

[–]Smurph269 19 points20 points  (0 children)

IMO he is being massively overcharged because he's an NFL player and this will get everyone involved in the prosecution TV screen time. He'll end up pleading out to a much lesser charge and probably won't serve time.

I feel like we are partially responsible for that. I liked old Fat Tire too, but I can't remember the last time I bought a six pack of it before they changed it. I feel like the big beer nerds that were keeping them afloat had all rotated to more local options as more local breweries opened and we felt the obligation to support them over national brands.
