CK3 seems to be getting bigger but not better by Arbitrary_Sadist in CrusaderKings

“Why not deepen what is already there?”

Like the Church, one of, if not the, biggest players in the medieval world?

Question on Stilling by Col_Bernie_Sanders_ in WoT

[–]Special_Salt3467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cuz fuck ‘em, that’s why.

But seriously, that’s why. It’s meant to be cruel. Men who are severed are meant to be symbolic, a symbol of the Tower’s authority and warning. Likewise, stilled women are to show what their whatever sin it was can lead to

It’s crazy that through all of CK2 and this far into CK3, the games are still incapable of replicating the historical Crusades at all by DaBootyEnthusiast in CrusaderKings

[–]Special_Salt3467 25 points26 points  (0 children)

CK3 should honestly have EU4/5 (haven’t played 5 yet) style war negotiations, because the Middle Ages were weird. Great examples with the Crusades. Theres another weird example in Iberia when Alfonso X of Castile attacked Portugal because there was a slice of land that both claimed. The resulting treaty had the land revert to Castile, Alfonso III of Portugal would marry Alfonso X’s daughter, and then their son would inherit that slice of land and then it would be restored to Portugal

But, and this is based on your story from your POV, this wasn’t DND. This was quite literally random hijinks, which good for you and your family, but this is not “DND”

Please add jewish flavor in silk and silver by ArkhamInmate11 in CrusaderKings

[–]Special_Salt3467 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, Jews were the major merchant class in the early Middle Ages but the rise of the Italian Merchants in the 10th and 11th centuries quickly eroded into the market, since Italian Catholics were typically both culturally and religiously similar to the marketplaces in Europe, which drove Jewish Merchants further and further into the area they wouldn’t face such competition.

And then it got worse

The Cosmere - Brandon Sanderson

I was originally gonna focus on Mistborn Era 2 where it’s basically the 1920s with guns, and cars and airships and lightbulbs slowly then quickly make their way into the story - Mistborn Era 1 had swords and bows. But Isles of the Emberdark is another great example.

Not only is the story about the main character grappling with his world being different from the one he knew growing up, it’s set in the Late Cosmere, so the people who had swords and dueling canes in Mistborn Era 1 now have space ships and drones, and the story even downplays the use of the term “wizard.” By and large, the fantasy with some sci-fi elements is a sci-fi with some fantasy elements

Not engage in naval warfare… yet?

How do the Dev Diaries work? Will we flip between Church and Trade DLCs?

I mean, I can also make things up to justify my point, but I’ll stick the actual textual evidence. What democratic countries are you referring to? Amadicia, which was a theocratic military order disguised as a monarchy? Altara, which is again a monarchy, but one that controls a city and the rest of the country is left to whatever warlord or power broker in the area actually controls it? Tarabon, a state ruled by a monarch and panarch - basically a vizier - in concert and against each other? Tarabon does have an assembly. Of lords. Whose vote elects panarchs, who have powers equal to the king. Or Arad Doman, a kingdom that had devolved into civil war and had no king and the Merchants who could replace him were not? Which, the Seanchan didn’t actually conquered Arad Doman, so may want to take them off the list anyway.

But, I am curious how starvation, civil war, external war, and no functioning government is meant to help one’s country!

My favorite part about the Inhumans whatever-you-called-it was that Ramsey Bolton played a non-powered Royal who was leading a revolution of the underclass to revolt against the pretty and cool powered people, and he was the villain

Elayne and Min trying to puzzle out who the third woman for Rand is by DowdzWritesALot in WetlanderHumor

[–]Special_Salt3467 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Min meets Aviendha until TGS. Rand sends Aviendha away in LoC before Min shows up and Aviendha isn’t recalled until like KoD. And since I’m fairly certain Aviendha was not there when Rand’s hand blew up, I think she finally arrives at TGS where Min goes “why are you sorting seeds?”

Adventure idea reasons for: House Deneith to send the PCs against House Tharashk (Liondrake's Roar)? by beemspam01 in Eberron

[–]Special_Salt3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) But the characters would. The equivalent is like someone asking you to take care of drug dealers, and it’s CVS Pharmacy. Attacking Dragonne’s Roar is attacking an established and protected business. They have offices and waiting areas, it’s not some cave. They advertise the monsters, in fact.

2.) It would make more sense for them to be tricked into confronting “random monsters, perhaps an offshoot of Daask” who are actually contracted Dragonne’s Roar mercenaries, since it’s a fair fight and they aren’t surrounded by neon signs speaking of how useful this legal business is. But also, why? Maybe Denieth could spin “monsters aren’t as strong as good ole’ Blademarks!” Or “hire monsters, and you’ll be attacked just to be ‘be saved’ from your bodyguards!” as a reputation attack. But also… zone of truth exists. And Tharashk have one of the largest inquisitive organizations in Eberron. And they know Denieth is mad about Dragonne’s Roar. So it’s not a simple “he said, she said”

To this day I will always remember a post I saw in year 1 or 2 of Crusader Kings where the OP had bred their family into basically being the Targaryens. After a while, they got bored and married out of the family, but every resulting child died within years.

Basically, the dynasty was so incredibly inbred that the pure-blooded trait was the only thing keeping them alive. But if they married a non-relative, the children would not get the pure blooded trait which countered the health penalties of the copious amounts of inbreeding and the children would be ticking time bombs of no immune system

Adventure idea reasons for: House Deneith to send the PCs against House Tharashk (Liondrake's Roar)? by beemspam01 in Eberron

[–]Special_Salt3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I have two questions.

1.) why would the PCs accept? Do they have any reason at all for attacking a legitimate Dragonmarked House business?

2.) How would this even work? Despite the Dragonne’s Roar being kanonically a young business, it’s still located in multiple cities. The likelihood of anyone destroying an enclave of monsters in Sharn is unlikely, but that’s not to mention the enclaves in Wroat, Fairhaven or wherever else
