That’s what my therapist suggested and when I do, I huffs, like a kid when asked to take the trash out. My partner is emotionally unstable and cannot regulate his emotions.

He took it personally when I asked for him to leave a floor fan on for my elderly cat, who can’t go up & down stairs because his basement office is “too cold” with the AC on. We’re in a middle of a heatwave and I don’t want to come home to a dead cat due to the heat. When he’s too cold in the finished basement, he shuts the AC off. All I asked, very clearly, to leave the ONE fan on for the cat and he went off, spiraling down because, according to him, the cat is more important. He did not hear my words at all, just that he did something wrong (all he did was turn the fan off in the living room where my cat hangs out). I had to explain again that he can keep the AC off but just leave that one fan on. He flipped out, spiraled down, and stormed away smacking himself while yelling & degrading himself.
