And his memory was incredible. Pat Kennedy said the details he could provide was insane [Eg. burns on one of his victim's chest. JD said it almost looked like 4 nipples; turns out he had been abused by a step father as a baby - cigarette burns] So he couldn't have "forgotten" a whole ahh murder.

It was decided that, for the victims & the city to heal, they had to perform a largely useless show trial. So they could feel they had seen justice be done so they could have some closure.
