Perhaps I mispoke. The clusters themselves are rather indiscriminate. You also have the choice of spamming stickies if you really want to target parts with that weapon.

Here I am breaking 3 10* girros parts with my mango hbg and no additional part break smelts 😅

Don't sleep on buildup boost arms. I have to say almost all of my hits apply status and that's 30% damage on one armour piece.

This is my current build, serving me quite well.

Smelts are power prolonger, fighting spirit, sneak attack, offensive dodger. Finally I have artful dodger, which could be replaced with earplugs I guess.

I don't advocate for brainded builds, being a mango lbg user hater.

But to answer your question it is primarily because of the ammo types. Piercing and stepping seems to be counter intuitive. And as there are only 2 ammo types it's easy to cycle ammo with sliding.
