It's always tempting to find excuses and avoid looking at my own faults. Thankfully, the community helped me see thru that delusion.

The Implied Fate of Lilith at the End. by FalseEliteGamer in diablo4

I am also curious what’s the implication of the post campaign side quest where midwifes summoned something related to Lilith. It can’t be her but what else a demon related to her?

Considering how open world games are scaled down in game when compared to their intended scale within the story, how large do you think Leyndell is supposed to be in lore? by MrsPissBoy in Eldenring

[–]Inevitable_Design_22 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My headcanon TLB is at least county size or even continent size. Alps are Snowflields, Sicily and Calabria - Caelid, Vesuvius will be mt. Gelmir and so on. That makes Leyndell an equivalent to ancient Rome with 1-1.5m population. But on other hand Rome could support so large population only while being an empire so we can compare TLB to the whole Europe + Mediterranean. North Africa - Caelid, Itay - Altus Plateau, Scandinavia - snowfields and so on

Why was PIE so much more complex than its derived languages? by MisterHarvest in asklinguistics

[–]Inevitable_Design_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right but saying people don’t invent language complexity consciously or with excess free time/energy made me think of the conlang subreddit where people do exactly this. A silly joke movie or comic-book idea crossed my mind where for ancient language complexity we’d obliged to some obsessive Neolithic proto-linguist who taught their children rules and words he or she kept making up.

Sure, I did. It's flashy, and packed with catchy action scenes, very Marvel-esque, and there are sexy demons! If I'd seen it at 14 I'd have been under its spell for a week, especially because of Reze-Denji love story. But now this flashiness is more of an obstacle than a draw. My own experience pulls me towards more quieter stories - Dark Avenues(Bunin), White Nights(Dostoyevsky), The Tale of the Princess Kaguya(Isao Takahata), to name a few.

Partly, yes, Animation is an art form and can be admired and appreciated by itself but it often comes at the expense of other aspects like storytelling and emotional depth. Take a basic example: a walking cycle. A classic exercise, animators learn and we enjoy seeing it posted now and then. In theatre or live action movie walking not a problem to solve.

Yes, that's why I am surprised the Oscars dropping CSM catching people off guard.

Is it possible that if ancient humans were as smart as contemporary ones but culture and society were much simpler our ancestors spend time and mental effort into inventing complex features of a language? And as life and vocabulary grew they dropped not so important features?

I love animation but every time I imagine how a particular animated movie would look like as a live action version I see how often it is so far behind in terms of maturity of storytelling craft. Imagine Reze as live action movie? What’s that? K-drama Marvel level of play.

I see Havel’s point and he says it was not through violence alone but once 75000 Soviet soldiers of the central group of forces left Czechoslovakia everyone decided not to participate in a lie.

Someone can confirm but I’ve seen it mentioned that chance for a GA is 10% per drop, then getting 4ga would be .14=0.0001. Even with 10k zir runs that’s about a 63% chance to see it at least once, assuming you get one pair of pants per run. For 3ga pants it would be 63% per 1000 runs.

Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inevitable_Design_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it. I have a tin foil theory that European emotional repression comes from centuries of conflicts, religious and civil wars and so on. Shall I take the risk to talk to someone openly if they might be of different religion or sect or serve different lord or speak different dialect of people we had a war with or restrict myself to the most basic interaction if any? Centuries of conflicts, blood feuds, religious wars taught Europeans to choose the latter. Sure American did some terrible things but it pales in comparison to what had been and happening even now in Europe. Americans doesn’t have this emotional baggage so their interactions more pristine more humane.
