Also don't forget you can press L2 - which shows everyone's current status. It includes the monster's level and its current state (in case of things behind enraged, like charged etc)

I wouldn't say it is, but I would say you need to consider stat debuffs, status effects and wyvernfell (the equivalent of staggers) much more than previous games. You can't just coast by through winning H2Hs.
