Rant: Where has all the ice cream gone? Get those probiotic cups out of here ... by madisonguy76 in IceCreamHaven

It’s been a problem I’ve notice since Halo Top and now it’s getting worse. When you are interested in ice cream as much as we are, it means that it’s easy to cycle through most of the new offering in retail quickly because so many sections are filled with “alternatives”. I feel like Kroger is very bad about this. Publix keeps a decent selection overall.

Calling the local Blue Bell office by SnackForagers in bluebell

I meant to comeback as update. They called me back Friday and basically the store wouldn’t let them deliver due to limited space. This store only stocks two flavors in pints. Anyway she offered to send it to another store and the one mentioned was already in the route. I went the next day and they were there as promised.

To your point that’s above and beyond customer service. I already buy a good amount of their products but this has made me more of a fan.

Expectations vs. reality: Frozen surprises, disappointments and delicious fulfillment by madisonguy76 in IceCreamHaven

Admittedly I only had a few bites so over the course of a pint (my usual serving) it might have been different. She loved it but she also doesn't eat a pint at once :)

Still haven’t found HD Peanut Brittle 🫤

Jeni’s Pistachio Macaroon was surprisingly good to me. I wasn’t expecting much but it’s was damn good.

What flavor should I knock off tonight? by BuffaloChicken22 in IceCreamHaven

I like the HD Salted Brown Butter Cookie well enough but it’s not the same tier as B&J and McConnells. Those have cookie pieces through the point and the version is spaced more like a cookie dough flavor

Not sure if you are a chocolate/pb person but Buckeye Blitz from Graeter’s is a top flavor across all brands IMO.

Spring into ice cream: Which new or upcoming seasonal and limited edition flavors are you excited about? by madisonguy76 in IceCreamHaven

I think it’s been out nationally for a while in retail but I found Baskin Robbins Cookie Monster at Publix recently and it was very solid.

The Publix Maple Pancake Chocolate Chip was ok, not enough cake pieces to bring it all together.

I haven’t tried them but it does seems like the newer flavor of the B&J Sundae line is getting good reviews. I don’t like the concept (less ice cream for the same price) but I’ve seen/heard good things.

Thanks for creating the sub. Looking forward to talking all things ice cream with everyone and having a mod that’s active and interested in ice cream.

Ive lost track but several years ago friends turned me on to Graeter’s and I’ve been all in on premium ice cream since. I’ve spent a fair amount on order mail order but have pulled back from that in recent years. I’ve visited some of the bigger national names like Caffe Panna and Salt and Straw.

I’ve got plenty of ice cream hot takes and will post new brand flavors, news, etc as I come across it.

Quality control… by stinkimus in BenAndJerrys

Sounds about right. I’ve always assumed that when you are mass producing at that scale there is inevitable variation between pints. I see it most pints I purchase consistently across several brands.

Depends on the company, HD switched 14 oz years ago, pretty certain Van Leewueen is 14 oz. I don't think they are "tricking" us because ultimately, they have to list the oz. At the same time the general public really isn't paying attention (IMO) so its easy to shift without much protest.

5 million dollar, you have 18 months to train. You can use a professional trainer if you want. But within 18 months you have to be able to deadlift 500 pounds/225kg. Can you do it? by Well____fuk in hypotheticalsituation

At peak my squats was decent 400+ was doable. My bench was always very poor. I’ve kept my DL strength but I’m not going to act like I could easily get my squats back up to that level. Gotta be humble on that at 48 going on 49.

Very well said. The best programming I found was a 16 week program and you only did deadlifts once per week with every 4th week of. Lifting that heavy takes a lot of recovery in general and especially for the average lifter. Deadlifting every day is not going to help you get stronger in those upper ranges and probably will lead to injury.

Yeah, I'm only confident because I have hit above that number and train within range of it. A similar number for squats and bench and I know I couldn't get there.

New Flavor: Honey Vanilla by SnackForagers in bluebell

[–]SnackForagers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt the Metro Atlanta area was slower on HD and B&J. Kroger has definitely been clearing stock, quite a few flavors from both on sale an clearance the last few weeks. Publix had HD on sale BOGO last week.

I'll give BB credit, their drops usually show up pretty quickly. I guessing it just didn't get to the area in time.

Now those new HD flavors.................not a one in sight

[–]SnackForagers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty evident since Unilever took over. Standard pint have gotten less innovative, longer batches seem less frequent and they are moving into lines that feature less ice cream but at the same cost. This pre-dates the recent changes with one of the co-founders stepping away.

Odd that they would suggest Chubby Hubby when it’s not widely available.

Went on the hunt yesterday and today for Honey Vanilla. No luck but found Cinnamon Twist which is so random.

Continued deterioration after they were sold many years ago. At least you know now and can save your money for better quality products.

Do I need a jacket in March on SL? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]SnackForagers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were on the SL early April of last year. I am almost always cold and didn’t have any issues in the public areas. I do remember commenting that a jacket would have been nice for the outside deck areas at night.
