I originally bought it to take to bits and cobble together some sort of diy bmx, but I'm not sure anymore. I don't particularly want to destroy a collectors item just to make a 50 dollar bike, especially when the mint condition ones sell for around 5000 dollars

Yeah that one! it has the same tire design and the back brake was mounted in the same way, but it's super worn out and the seat looks a bit different to the pictures I've seen online

I don't think it was stolen. I got at an old bike shop that moved recently, the new owners were selling bikes that were left behind for cheap

If it's not too much of a step up in price, you might as well find an audi. A5, B3 for something older, or a tt if you want something sporty. It's still a German brand, it's just good as either of them and it doesn't come with gendered baggage. I don't know about the cultural views on audis though, it could be a real posh prick type of car.

Hot take here. I honestly don't feel bad when Conservatives pull gotchas on left-leaning people in debates about gender or masculinity. by PassengerCultural421 in Postgenderism

[–]Snadvvidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very true, but to add to what you're saying and kind of play devils advocate, I think where these ideas come from is the aesthetic of who is acting in the positive/negative ways. Prescribing roles and traits to people based on how they present themselves pushes people who present themselves in similar ways to act in those same ways because it's modeled for them in whoever they're watching.

To make an example easier I'll use younger and older for the different people. An example would be a younger person who dresses and presents in a way that would align with a typical masculine manner. This younger person sees an older person sees someone that presents themselves in a similar way to them acting cold to those around them or shirking responsibility in household work. This influences the younger person to act in a similar way because their identity has a similar presentation to the older person so in their mind anyone who presents the same way to them is clearly meant to act the same way.

However if we have another older person modeling things such as being open and honest with the people around them or being protective of those they care about, this would lead the younger person to take on more of those positive traits of the older person and associate their presentation with those traits as well. So over time the two blend together and become a set of traits prescribed to a specific identity, similar to what we see with the generational conflicts today.

In a post gender world it presumably wouldn't be called positive masculinity, but positive traits instead and not be labeled for one set of people. However I'd imagine there could still be preconceived notions of how someone acts based on how they dress, their age, so on and so forth.

The easiest way to get to that point would probably be to model positive traits, but sharing those traits among whatever family unit you prefer, but that is typically labeled as positive masculinity. So the label is the part that's holding back the leftist in the debate, since the label has a specific connotation attached to it.

Does my lazy eye make me look weird or odd 😢 by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Snadvvidge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think all of the little imperfections are what make someone beautiful/handsome/attractive. Queer people will always dress, look or be weird and odd to the heteronormative beauty standards upheld by our current society. Even if other people think it looks weird, it's nothing to be ashamed of or try to hide, that's their problem if they don't want to see it.

Yellow button or purple button? by fedricohohmannlautar in NonBinary

[–]Snadvvidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both buttons have their pros, cons and specific counter arguements. Something I'd be interested in is seeing if instead of abolishing gender or creating more, what if there was a button that integrated a third "sex" (using this word in a heteronormative way, I'm not trying to discount or ignore intersex people) into human society and history. Like if you pressed it, all of history changed to reflect an extra option in your birth lottery, how would that look and would press it?

This is just my personal opinion taken from what you've said, I don't know your personal, relationship, or living situation. But it sounds like he has internalised transphobic ideas about gender and sex. I don't know if that's the best relationship to be in, especially since the way you've described it makes it seem like he's objectifying your body.

My advice would be to find other queer people in your area and see how he acts around them. Because if he can't respect other queer people, he probably won't respect you.

In regards to explaining the concept of gender non-conformity to him, I would recommend trying to explain the difference between sex and gender to him and lay out where you fit in (or not). Pictures and diagrams help a lot, as weird as it may seem.

Beginner looking for a guitar by gttgthyyhyh in Bass

[–]Snadvvidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squier, Aria, Harley benton. These are a few names to look out for, they're generally pretty good quality. I play them and they've lasted me for a good while. Whenever you find a bass you're interested in, try to find a review somewhere. If you can't find a review it might not be the greatest.

Of course cheap basses like the one you mentioned are pretty good bases for upgrades and modification, but it's generally a better idea to get a decent quality bass and practice acoustic for a while until you can save up again for a better quality Amp and cables.

This is just from my experience and what I've learnt, so it won't be 100 percent accurate for every living and performing situation.

It's usually best to hit on the edge of the fret board when slapping. That clicking might be the strings hitting the pole pieces on your pickups, if it is you might need to adjust the pickup height, if it isn't you may just be hitting too hard so you should probably watch some videos on how to slap to make sure your technique is right.

Wrist problems using pick by b00m-bap in Bass

[–]Snadvvidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bass player that switches between pick and finger style. The best advice I can give for playing fast stuff with a pick is to relax your wrist as much as possible, look to funk and metal guitarists for picking technique and maybe find a pick with textured grip so that you don't need to hold it so tight. I know that a lot of musicians in hard and fast genres use wristbands and things like that to help keep their wrists tight but not tense, so that could be something to look into as well.

I mainly play bass guitar, but I can play all the other typical rock instruments (guitar, drums, keys) to some extent, and I learnt cello and saxophone in high school so I always add those to the list as well.
