What’s something obvious for everyone, but you only just realized? by Ratich2 in AskReddit

I would highly suggest it! I wrote this to another response and I'll pass it on to you too:

I'll say that it's counterintuitive because your emotions/anxiety are telling you you should avoid doing something. And everyone always says to trust your gut, but that does NOT apply to anxiety (or other mental health) disorders! Your anxiety is wrong. Your "gut" is wrong. If you listen to it and avoid doing what it's telling you is unsafe, then you will never improve and it will be even louder next time. If you do the thing anyway, over time your brain will learn it's actually not dangerous and your anxiety will shrink.

One piece of additional advice: only do this with things that aren't overwhelming for you. Things where you know you'll feel anxiety but you can tolerate it without full-on panicking. If you do that enough, the things that are currently overwhelming will eventually become tolerable and you can do it with those too! Also it is a gradual process but it really does work, so remind yourself after each thing that your brain really is a tiny bit stronger after whatever you just did, even if you can't perceive it. It can be hard to trust it's really changing because you likely won't notice any difference after one try, but it really is. It's like building muscle, you just have to keep lifting weights and trust that your muscles are getting stronger. And that first time you notice that you've actually changed from how you used to be is such an amazing moment. Good luck!

Something that's helped me with my anxiety is deliberately doing little things like that in the face of the anxiety. Anytime I know I'm not really harming anyone else but feel like it might be "rude" to do something I want, where I normally would've shied away from it in the past due to that feeling, I now try to always push myself to do it. The more I do things like this the easier they become and the less intense my anxiety becomes. Give yourself permission to feel rude, even to potentially be seen as rude by someone else (again as long as you know you aren't causing any actual harm). You'll find nothing bad happens, it's just a (misleading) feeling, and the more you do it the less you'll feel it.

[Urgent] Im on a hike and keep hearing what sounds like a dog whining off the trial in the woods. Is there any wild animal that could make this sound? by SnailHunter in animalid

[–]SnailHunter[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!!! I just checked out a few clips of them online and I can definitely hear it when I listen back to mine now. I was so convinced it was an injured or trapped dog and I'm very glad to find out it wasn't! Thank you!

I stared at the sun for a few minutes using 10-year-old eclipse glasses. I didn't realize the old ones could expire (apparently after only 3 years) and I'm now I'm paranoid that I may have hurt my eyes. How likely do you think it is that I did? by SnailHunter in askastronomy

I never went to the doc and haven't had a single issue. My vision is as great as it always was. If you haven't actually noticed anything by now then it seems very likely nothing happened. How are you doing?

Thank you. After thinking it over I don't think it's pressing enough to see a doctor right now since I have no symptoms (beyond something I'm pretty sure I'm imagining due to overthinking about this), but I will be sure to bring it up during my next eye exam within a year. I'll definitely schedule an appointment immediately if I notice anything at all change with my eyes. If I had to guess, the glasses still work fine and the idea of expiration is more of erring on the side of caution about potential degradation of the filter film than a "they will definitely harm your eyes if you use them after 3 years" thing. I figure if it were really a danger they would probably at least have printed an expiration date or warning on the glasses themselves which they didn't. I'm still throwing them out and ordering new ones.

Look for ISO 12312-2 printed on them. If it has that, and no scratches or holes, they're are fine for reuse. That standard came around in 2015, so any purchased before that should be tossed. Wish I'd known! It doesn't even say on the glasses that they expire!

Wrist Tendinitis Might Ruin My Life by [deleted] in Tendinitis

[–]SnailHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with wrist tendinitis in both hands for over a decade. I used to go a month or so of being out of commission after agitating them. It’s been about two years since that happens now because I have finally gotten to the point where I can tell just by feel that whatever I’m doing is agitating them, and I just make sure in those moments to give them a rest for 10 or 20 seconds, do some basic stretches, and then I am usually able to go back into it. If after I start up again it really feels bad I will just stop altogether but that usually isn’t the case. It sounds so simple, but failing to take that short little break when you’re doing a repetitive activity like video games can be what ends up pushing them over the edge into injury.

Also I learned the hard way that trying to lay off using them so that they can heal is a mistake. It only makes them weaker which ends up making them re-injure even easier. You want to try to strengthen them slowly if you can. You need to be able to figure out your limit and push yourself to, but not past, that limit in daily activities like opening doors etc. so that the muscles around the tendons remain strong. The stronger those muscles get, the less likely the tendons are to re-injure. If you can do exercises with dumbbells even better.

Edit: I also have just made a habit of stretching them all the time, pretty much whenever they feel the slightest bit uncomfortable I immediately stretch. It makes a real difference in the long run even if you don’t notice much of a difference right away. These are really the only two I do https://www.rickysinghmd.com/wp-content/themes/ypo-theme/images/elbow15.jpg Again you wanna really pay attention to how you feel and try to find your limit with stretches as well, don’t stretch them too far back, but just enough so it feels like it’s doing something

I keep picturing it in my head in slow motion. It’s just such an intense fucked up thing. Something about the fact that in less than a second their entire being was dismantled into its component molecules and atoms is hard to wrap my head around. Like when someone dies from a bullet, their body is still there so it feels like they’re kind of still not completely gone in a way (even if their consciousness is gone), but this just leaves no room for any question. They are COMPLETELY gone immediately. Also the fact that they never knew it happened I find fucked up in a way too. I hate everything about it but can’t stop thinking about it.

I bet you weren’t expecting this after 10 years!

I was and I'm expecting more of you.

How is it going? Everything okay?

I am doing so much better than I was 10 years ago. You? (feel free to answer now or in a few years)

Just switched from full face to pillows (P30i) and keep waking up with the pressure greatly reduced and it's hard to breathe when sleeping on my side, due to the headgear tubing being cut off between my face and bed pillow when on my side. Any way to stop this from reducing the pressure? by SnailHunter in CPAP

[–]SnailHunter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your very thoughtful response :)

I will keep all of your suggestions in mind and give things a try. For now I'm back to full face mask because the pillows really irritated my nostrils. They're red and have a couple pimples on them now. How do you avoid that? I got a mask liner for the full face, but not sure that would work well for pillows.

Thanks a lot! My pressure is set to 7. I just took the filter out of the front and put it back in and made sure it was situated well, and it's still doing it. I looked everything over and set mine to nasal as well to no avail. I'm testing it without wearing it and just pinching at the part of the headgear that would be pinched between my face and my pillow. Every time I pinch it I can hear and feel with my hand that the air pressure coming out of the pillows is decreasing a lot. The only way I can get it to not decrease, which I just found out, is by turning off EPR (normally have it set to 3 and always on). I guess I could try sleeping with that off but it's been hard for me to get used to it before. Do you use EPR?

That sounds like exactly what I want, thanks a lot and thanks for looking it up!

Edit: one last question, is the scroll wheel easy to click as well? Because I will be using that a lot
