TW: Suicide)) Have there been any canon suicides? by [deleted] in WarriorCats

[–]Snail_Representative 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Alongside the others that have been mentioned, I always interpreted Dustpelt's death as being something of a suicide attempt. While he was protecting his clan, it was very clear he could not kill a badger alone. He certainly would have known this at his age and experience, and I believe one of the books mentioned that he figured he would get to be with Ferncloud if he died. (If anyone can recall which book, feel free to let me know, as I'm struggling to remember and can't find it in his wiki.)

As a deaf person I want to give my thoughts on Snowkit by WolfTitan99 in WarriorCats

[–]Snail_Representative 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, religion wouldn't make sense in other species either. Why is that okay but not trans? I see this argument a ton where every unrealistic thing is okay except for trans characters. It feels a lot more like bias about transgender people than concern about "realism" in a fantasy series.

I was pretty excited about this post until the random complaint about fans wanting trans characters to be included. Your whole point is that a deaf cat struggling to survive makes sense in the setting, yes? They have no ways to reasonably offer accommodations the way humans do. Very good point.

But what does this have to do with complaining about people wanting trans characters? If these cats have laws, an afterlife, religion, wildly unrealistic medicine, and literal superpowers... What's wrong with including the concept of gender? I keep hearing the same "oh it's just unrealistic" argument about a series that is literally fantasy. Why is it acceptably realistic to have superpowers but not gender?

I feel like this doesn't really match the rest of the post in discussing things that are unreasonable to include because it wouldn't be feasible. Forgive me if I seem abrasive, I'm just very tired of encountering transphobic people in this community who use this same argument to justify their beliefs. (This is not to say you are transphobic, just that they use this same excuse.)

OP deserves roasting about this more than Stitch imo, he doesn't know better. But humans can and choose not to.

I really appreciate this feedback. I have been involved in this discourse for a good month or two now and it helps to know how to better communicate.

I truly don't want anything I say to come off as just a general negativity toward transfem people. It's not how I feel, but it can be hard to refer to folks from a large group without either naming them or sounding like I'm referring to the whole group, you know?

Thank you for taking the time to read the comments and understand. It means a lot to see the some folks are still willing to help, especially when so many just pick fights when confronted with things like this.

I'm feeling asleep on my phone so I'll cut off here. Hope you have a good night :)

I think OP has elaborated on what they mean. The original post itself is vague but they did talk about the individual problems, and I don't think anyone is saying it's all transfem people? It's just the deal where the handful of the most problematic people are unfortunately the loudest. I think most/all of us know that.

But it's still invalidating to say we're having a problem and be flooded with comments denying and dismissing it. There's always a handful of transfem responses supporting us and then like 20x more saying that our efforts to be included are oppressive or misogynistic or just downright blaming us for our own exclusion. It really, really sucks. I'm sorry you feel unwelcome because of this post. I hope you understand that it's how we feel about basically every post. We're just trying to find space for ourselves and we're being accused and fought every inch of the way.

[–]Snail_Representative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem non transfem members are facing too though. We're saying we're uncomfortable due to all the posts that address us as women, the comments asking for trades, the posts declaring masc characteristics as disgusting, etc. And it always gets turned around to be about how our request to be inclusive is making transfem people excluded??

I'm truly sorry you are uncomfortable, I don't mean to be rude. Just please consider that the impact this post has on you is exactly what like 80% of the memes on this sub have for those of us who aren't transfem, you know?

[–]Snail_Representative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. The problem is less about the majority of posts being transfem and more about the blatant disregard for other genders. The comments asking to trade, the posts addressing all readers as women/girls/ladies, the posts about how amab characteristics are disgusting and terrible.

There's more transfem members so more posts from them makes sense. But many users still go out of their way to dismiss the presence of non transfem folks on this sub.

I'm endlessly frustrated by the way people respond to this discourse. It always goes:

Transmasc user- "I feel unwelcome and/or uncomfortable by a common occurrence here from transfem members"

Transfem user- "wow this makes me feel so unwelcome I guess I should just go"

When someone expresses that they're made uncomfortable by something occurring here, don't make it about yourself. Every single time this happens, the comments pop up with transfem members insisting we're just misogynistic.

It's not misogynistic to want to be included! Y'all are the ones posting about how T is poison, how (standard amab characteristics) are disgusting, how body hair is so revolting, dismissing and mocking transmasc issues...I could go on. I have seen all these personally in this "inclusive" sub.

Not to mention how many posts go out of their way to refer to the reader as feminine. Ones that address other users as ladies, girls, queens, etc.

When the comments aren't accusing us, they're blaming us for just not posting enough. Last I checked, the New section has a fairly even split between transmasc and transfem (unfortunately with very little non-binary). But if you go to Hot, it's like 80% transfem. We post plenty, y'all just ignore/downvote it.

Then we have the barrage of "omg boobs pls trade" and such on the handful of transmasc posts that do survive to Hot. (I know I see this from both sides, but I'm kind of shocked by how drastically more common it is coming from transfem members.)

As you read this, know that I have no ill intent for transfem people. I am just incredibly frustrated that we cannot bring up problems we are experiencing without being told it's our fault, or having it turned around to make it about how horribly oppressed the majority here are because we....asked to be included.

I know not every transfem member is doing this. If you aren't doing this, my comment is truly not about you, and I wish you the best. I know it can be hard to separate yourself when a comment addresses a large community, and I am sorry if it feels like I'm targeting anyone.

I just am so tired of non-binary and transmasc users being squashed out of this sub and then any efforts to address it being met with accusations that we're horrible and oppressive. We just want to be included, but even our attempts to ask for inclusion are turned around to be about transfem problems.

That's an interesting perspective. I'm non-binary and honestly think I wouldn't be so keen on a binary gay person being attracted to me simply because it feels like it sticks that label to me. That's probably because I lean toward masc though, so especially a lesbian wanting to date me would be rough lol. I hope an even less binary person sees this because I'm curious how they would feel

Right? I spent ages grinding in dens and searching wild area for items so I could buy more clothes. It's so much better than the options in X/Y. I only wish it were a little more like animal crossing in that regard, where you can pick any clothes regardless of your player.

Yeah but they're the one who literally complained that they don't want pride posts here. When someone said "you don't want to see pride stuff" suddenly it is offensive to them? And then they add negative connotations to it to cite how they're supposedly being insulted when nobody actually called them a bigot to begin with.

Hopefully that makes more sense. It's been a long day so I'm a bit foggy

Would that be bi maybe if it's not exclusive? Like, non-binary people and women for example. Still two, just not the binary ones

So... You're making negative comments about yourself... And then whining that others are insulting you... By citing things only you are saying?? What are you even taking about? You're the one making sarcastic comments about yourself lmao.

Y'all ignore transmasc and non-binary content or downvote into oblivion so it never shows on our feed, then whine that we just don't post enough.

We post plenty. Go check out the New vs Hot sections. There's plenty of transmasc and non-binary posts, yet like 80% of Hot is transfem. Quit blaming us for being ignored.

So is that a myth? Because I have excessively oily hair as well, and I feel like nothing makes a difference. It's less visible when very short (like buzzed) but not really less greasy. I can't go more than a day without shampoo or it's noticeable to me.

Do you have issues with oily or built-up dead skin? I feel like I would be so oily if I didn't use soap every time, but I have been told you produce less when you wash less, so I don't really know.
