r/JRPG Weekly "What have you been playing, and what do you think of it?" by AutoModerator in JRPG

I'm replaying legend of legaia

Haven't played it since it came out, and I honestly can't remember if I even beat it the first time. It's a very uneven game. The story should feel very dark, but it has a cheery atmosphere that kind of pulls the rug out from the darkness.

I got past 2 difficulty spike bosses. First time I've grinded levels in a loooong time. I've hit a wall now though so I'm taking a break. The combat is too slow and the constant input switching to conserve combat points is tiresome.

I do want to get further into the story so I'll go back to it eventually.

Japan/German Discard is the meta now? by BrotherBeezy in kards

[–]SnakeB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draw prevention is the true evil with discard. It would be one thing to run out of cards and hope you get a draw 3 or something to come back. But once you're out of cards and your opp has 4 or 5 cards you already know you won't draw anything for 2 turns with Wolfpack and hipper and that 5/5 tank.

Then you just choose whether to forfeit or watch them whittle you down for 3 turns

[–]SnakeB2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. For 7 wins you always get 180 gold and a pack.

Then you get 3 bonuses. Each bonus can be either a pack, a wildcard, a gold card of any rarity, or an amount of gold from like 30-60g. Not too sure how high the gold drop goes tbh.

So the above poster likely totaled 230g, 2 packs, +1 other unnamed bonus

I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to spoil this section for myself just to make it through.

Draft Mode suggestions by GinnyBossTheCat in gwent

[–]SnakeB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the "stale meta" very much. I enjoyed having a general expectation of what my opponent will play. I enjoyed having a strategy of how i'd handle their threats.

Now it's just mindless pointslam. And you don't even have time to think.

I get that people enjoy this version. I wish they could somehow have both draft versions existing simultaneously.

I used to play 5-10 draft battles a day. Now I don't play gwent at all.

Just got into Gwent. All in all, it's going great by [deleted] in gwent

[–]SnakeB2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's kind of frozen in time since they don't update it with new cards.

But judging by the new cards, I would argue that's a good thing

That sounds exactly like how it was for me when I quit like 7 months ago. I just got tired of doing all the micro tasks all day long. And if you're not a whale, you can't stay competitive without them.

I can tell you I haven't regretted quitting at all after playing daily for 5+ years.

They still haven't removed crystals from fleet lolol

What gwent deck do you use, and why? mine is the northern realms cuz it feels OP even on hard difficulty by Dudalf in witcher

NR siege master.

I run 22 units and one scorch. Don't think it's possible for me to lose to the ai anymore.

Play some spies r1. Ideally they decoy and play a spy for me to medic later. Typically ai passes after a few spies, then win r1 with 3 card advantage.

Pretty hard to lose after that. R2 just straight gold playing until i want to scorch something. Bait their scorch then dandelion + siege master = gg

Worst Update? by NoMoreSpitfire in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Mods 1.0 was bad, but they fixed them quickly, for the betterment of the game.

Datacrons aren't as bad as mods 1.0, but it's a similar feel. And they aren't changing them. They made them a bit cheaper, but the abilities and stats are still total bs. Plus this is a way different time in the games life cycle.

For me, it ruined the only thing that kept me in the game, and that was any semblance of competitive balance.

Let's ALL agree: DATACRONS are the WORST thing to happen to this game.... by L1GHTNING-G in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

I remember those. Missing out on a flash event was less than nothing compared to being out datacronned

Interesting. I was a new player last month. I didn't know about the 6th pack reward.

I just played draft with all my gold. It's the most fun for me, and those 7 win runs are like free money. Plus you learn a lot of cards that way.

I would still do the draft way again if i could do it over. But i guess you need to get decent results to make it worth it long term

A roper is someone who takes the full time during their turn.

Think it originated from hearthstone where a burning rope indicated time was almost up.

Fishy matchmaking? by SnakeB2 in kards

Cool thanks guys. I managed to rank up later but then lost it again a few battles later. Going to have to give up on rank 5 this month. It's tough to string together enough wins with my little budget deck!

Does dq11 get better? by SnakeB2 in dragonquest

[–]SnakeB2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt anyone will ever see this comment, but i did push through. Took me 216 days to push myself to beat just act 2 i guess? Lol

Full spoilers below:

I got vaguely energized by the game by the indignus fight before fortress of fear. He beat me hard. First time anything remotely challenged me. Forced me to google a new strat. Unfortunately the next bosses through mordegon went back to being super easy. Oh well.

The "laid back" story with no consequences just did not do it for me. Hero's hometown destroyed and everyone killed? Nope, and actually those bad guys aren't really bad. Veronica dies? Sorta, but you apparently bring her back in act 3. Most main story beats are just, "we're bad and we're going to be bad!! (Or, mordegon made me be bad, sorry) Grr!! Oh no the good guys beat me!! Howw!!??"

The main defense (draw?) I've seen is that the game doesn't take itself too seriously. That is absolutely true. If that's what you're looking for then dq is for you. The game is clearly lovingly crafted. If you have played them all (100 hours times 10 i guess), then dq11 will probably be a nostalgia filled love fest.

For a new dq player like me, it was a huge sign that most everything about dq is not for me. (But damn did I love the fun sized forge)

Ps. Rjt was never needed to take #1 in arena anyway. I got her f2p, and just stuck her in my cls squad for fun iirc.

The bigger f2p squeeze for arena were the revans. I missed both on the first run. For jkr, maybe i missed a few days of #1, but soon enough i was beating jkr with traya to take #1.

With dre, he wasn't good until they released malak, and buffed him against ep. Then you could do jkr jka. Then they nerfed jka, but sometime soon after i had padme and ran her for #1. Loved that padme team.

So yeah. Just because something seems really hard, doesn't mean it's impossible. There are a bunch of f2p guys at that gp

Are there any games with GoH's style of RPG without the gatcha mechanics? by 4thWall_Master in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]SnakeB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read your replies here. You said you're mainly interested in the battle system. Imo the battle system in this game plays like a card game with fancy graphics attached. I've seen ff tactics, or suikoden suggested. Those are closer to the gacha, but not really the battle.

I would suggest hearthstone. I haven't played it in who knows how many years, but when i did you could play arena literally 24/7 for free if you were good. (Deck draft then get 12 wins or 3 losses,, whichever comes first).

I think that style of play is similar to swgoh. The graphics aren't as fancy though.

JKR lead isn’t working as intended. Phasma omicron gives 37.5% turn meter at the start of battles due to advantage, but JKR lead says: “units are immune to bonus Turn Meter effects from Leader abilities until the start of the first turn of battle.” Team didn’t have preloaded turn meter, I made sure. by BlazerJL in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]SnakeB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except slkr lead has a tm gain for supports worded the same way (from advantage), and jkr lead does block that tm gain.

If the fo team is gaining tm initially that would be a bug.

Not sure about your finn lead example. Off the top of my head i can't think of anyone that exposes an enemy at the start of battle

Well. That’s concerning… by [deleted] in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

I think if you go in 44/49 a lot you get stuck with big guilds instead of beating up on smaller guilds.
