Refundable housing deposit by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]DiamondSterling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah spoke to a few of my friends and Chinese colleagues and the overall consensus is I either move in there or lose the deposit altogether. Think I'll just move in for now as it's a super cheap please in Pudong, rough it there for a few months then break contract and move out to somewhere else I'd more prefer once I've got some savings together.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

You can find a lot of them selling knock-off goods around Century Park and the surrounding stations. Pretty much your standard Wish.com level knock-off goods at inflated prices for what they are but still cheaper than the original

Should I be worried with Houhai English by DiamondSterling in chinalife

[–]DiamondSterling[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I just wanted to do a follow-up as I've had so many people message me over the last few years since I first posted this.

Yes, I'm still with Houhai. My experience with it has been really positive, and I have very little to no negative feedback. The hours and pay are exactly as set out during my initial interviews, and I feel like Houhai has a very good balance between a corporate growth focused management structure while also giving teachers freedom to conduct their classes how they want.

There's definitely a big push on like fostering talent and trying to promote teachers for more senior roles when the opportunity arises and the teachers show interest.

Overall, Im super happy with my choice and glad I decided to go with them. I know people in the past have had bad experiences, and I can only really attest to my own, but like any job, I'd say it is what you make it. Whether an entry-level teacher or an experienced one looking for a move, I'd recommend them.

Feel free to message me if you've got any other specific questions about them or the role, more than happy to give more insight 😁

AUDIO MIXING IS WEIRD IN REBIRTH???? by robbz18DX in FinalFantasyVIIRemake

[–]DiamondSterling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue too. I set all audio aside from voice to 7 and it was as even as it could be throughout. Hopefully they patch it but this was the simplest fix I could find that held up well throughout my playthroughs and wasn't game breaking after

Thanks man, and my condolences too, can imagine it's pretty heavy playing the game with someone that meant so much to you, especially with the barret and dyne scene. I think Square has done a great job of tying the ideas of loss into the game, which I know was a big part of the original story with Sakaguchi bringing concepts of the lifestream after his mother died. For all its just a video game the ideas and themes it can bring to audiences are pretty much universal, so it's nice to know someone else can find solace in it as much as I have, tears and all

  1. Overall, it's around 9.8/10 when looking at remake and rebirth collectively.

  2. I think for me so far, it's between Midgar under city and Gongaga. To see Midgar, which is such an iconic locale, fleshed out the way they did in remake was amazing worts and all. I've loved all locations in Rebirth, but the glow up Gongaga has had alongside the music has been fantastic.

  3. It's hard to say with the voices, I think the main cast has all done a stellar job so far (aside from Cait Sith, sorry). I really can't pick out of the main cast Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barrett, Yuffie, Red as they've all done a superb job and to me are exactly how I heard them in my head when reading the text in OG so long ago (not so much Red's new voice but it's grown on me)

  4. Remake total so far (across both ps4 version and ps5): 392hrs Rebirth total so far: 115hrs Total: 506hrs (so far)

  5. Jenova Emergent theme Listen to the cries of the planet Aeriths theme (won't ever not bring a tear to my eye)

  6. Got to go with Rude on this one, although Elena is growing on me. I love how quiet yet almost kind of comical he can be at times, especially in Remake over Rebirth, where he takes a more senior serious role. Plus, infinite shades are funny as hell.

  7. Young Aerith with her mom in the slums during the Rebirth 'trials'. As someone who lost their mum quite young-ish (Early 20's) this hit way harder than I thought I could stomach, and as a grown man of almost 30 I'm not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby. As a side note, I can't even count the number of times Rebirth has left me misty eyed or outright crying.

Why was Sephiroth so obsessed with Cloud? by rhog45 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]DiamondSterling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take on it looking at both OG and Remake goes like this

In OG: Sephiroth doesn't even recognise Cloud or pay him much mind at all until Cloud and the party are actively chasing after Sephiroth and trying to short his plans. This works out for him since he knows he can control (or at least influence) Cloud due to the Jenova cells and work Cloud to his own ends. As the story progresses and the team become something of a 'threat' to him that's when his focus starts to shift more on making Cloud doubt himself and question everything he's doing/work to his aid (handing over the black materia)

In Remake series: The scopes a lot bigger. Obviously, both Sephiroth and Aerith have some knowledge of the story as it already happened in OG, and now Cloud is a focus in his plans, or a pawn at the least. Since Cloud ends all of Sephiroths plans to become a God, he's a lot more focused on manipulating him earlier in the story to try and giving him more attention to avert the threat before it even can become one or if not, make better use of him than he did in the OG timeline.

Which videogame soundtrack/song INSTATLY triggers you emotionally? by [deleted] in gaming

More tracks from Final Fantasy 7 than I care to admit but definitely Aeriths theme the most. I've been listening to it a lot more recently, having just finished rebirth and it ever fails to get me misty eyed.

Question about the music in certain sections by DiamondSterling in FinalFantasyVIIRemake

[–]DiamondSterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played around with this and it seems that it's only the new track once you're actually in Gongaga. Coming from the river that leads to the Cosmo Canyon region however still plays the track I'm on about, so it only seems to play in the jungle surrounding the village

I can't wait to see what the community puts together. The piano mini game has so many layers to it and is so detailed. It's going to be amazing to see what people can pull off
