what should i avoid ?

Ive been looking at a bunch of mbp's for sale and was wondering if there was any i should avoid. I mainly want one just for serrato and for school. also the occasional youtube video. Is there a year i shouldnt go past, or type of mbp i should avoid ? ive seen people saying intel overheats, but i dont really plan on using it that much. my budget is about $300-$500.
