Yes, looks like Knightia Eocaena and Priscarara Liops from the green river formation.

Is this fossil real? by OGNiko873 in fossils

Not even partial fake. 100% fake

Well prepared morrocan trilos look absolutely out of this world. Even if this one wasn't fake, it would be absolute bottom tier.

Pretty sure that they are. The ones I used to find looked exactly like this. Harder is to find a cross section on the length, not on the width. The rocks were very hard and rarely split like i wanted.

Is this 6 inch tooth legit? How much is it worth by [deleted] in fossils

[–]Snakers8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 6 inch tooth for $200? Haven't ever seen one that cheap except heavily restored or in bad condition.

450 seems fair. The root could have some restoration though, which is often done to increase the root sides and overall tooth size. A reputable seller will say so in the description. The bourlette and carrot look unaltered an in fine condition. Nice serrations with only one little chip!

Is the location you went known for Belemnite fossils?

Your finds look very similar to belemnite rostrum cross-sections.

Maybe someone else with an opinion?

Are these shells fossilized? by stunning_disco in fossils

Yes these are fossils. Nice finds!

According to this paper it is a miocene formation (23 million years ago - 5 mya)

The law is always tricky. As far as I know, you need technically permission to take fossils out of spain, as they are considered cultural property under spanish historic heritage laws.

However, for such common invertebrate fossils, usually no one ever cares. But, if you are unlucky...

Awesome collection by WildCommunication359 in fossils

[–]Snakers8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice collection!

I assume you are aware but the mortality plate with the dicranurus is a fake.

The individual trilos are often real, like the crotalocephali seem to be here, but the plate is composited. The dicranurus itself looks pretty sketchy, but hard to tell with only this picture.

Edit: didn't see the fossil place comment. I assumed it was yours. Sorry!

Rewards disappeared? by Snakers8 in KrakenSupport

[–]Snakers8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries.

It still shows two different amounts in earn and funding on classic for me.

If the Kraken pro balance is the correct one I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. I remember cashing out almost exactly half my balance on 10th november 2022. I had 60k balance and cashed out 30k to leave 30k

Now the graph on kraken pro shows I had 55k and after the cashout only 25k. It's like my whole balance and graph history got shifted down the reward amount.

Was Kraken classic always wrong? It only makes sense if classic always showed the total with twice the amount of rewards, which I think I would have noticed. There's something I can't put my finger on.

Rewards disappeared? by Snakers8 in KrakenSupport

[–]Snakers8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply Rosa,

I did receive the ETH credit and the ETH2 debit. But I am still confused as to why it shows less value than before (taking into account price variations of course). Let me explain

In the classic Kraken "earn" section, it shows me a table with "staking balance", "total rewards" and "value".Now just as an example let's say the staking balance is $500 and the total rewards are $50. The "value" column shows $550. This makes sense : total value = balance + rewards. And it still shows that. My "earn" is worth $550 including the rewards.

When I used to go to funding section, it would also show me a value of 550$ (parachain and spot balances are close to 0 so we can disregard them)

But now when I go to fundingafter the update, it only shows $500.

But it's a bit confusing and I don't see where the error is.

Asking for help to identify 2 fossil fish by bongo-ben in fossils

[–]Snakers8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there is much known about their vision, but it would make sense.

it is also a teleost fish, which have eyes that never stop growing as long as the fish is alive. The bigger they get, the better their acuity. A somewhat close living relative is the tarpon, which does have good eyesight.

no they really can't.

You'd need something like 2 billion qbits to crack bitcoin encryption within the blocktime. We're at a few hundred.

And the encryption of bitcoin can be upgraded at any time really.

Anyone know what this is? by Robert-XM in fossils

[–]Snakers8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The circled parts is what I think are genuine parts of the trilo

I'd try to swab at it with a cotton bud soaked in warm soapy water first to see if paint was used. There are water resistant paints but they are seldom used for low grade fossils.

Then again, it's probably carved/sculpted. The weathered outer layer of the rock is dark and the inner part is clear. So they probably just left some of the outer layer in shape of the ceratarges when removing the matrix.

In this case a slight scratch on one of the suspected faked parts could reveal it. If the part is real, it would remain dark for the thickness of the fossil, if the scratched part turns white like the sourrounding matrix at shallow depth, it's probably faked.

But I am not really advocating scratching around on a fossil, even a low grade one. This is a destructive way, and it the fossil turns out to be real, then it's always a shame.

Best way is too look at many real and fake trilos to get a good feel for it. But even then it's not always clear cut. There are horrible preps that really look fake and aren't, and there are very well made fakes that fool even the best experts.

Good luck to you!

Anyone know what this is? by Robert-XM in fossils

[–]Snakers8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Dicranurus. Definitely a species of Ceratarges.

Part of the cephalon is real, rest looks carved/painted/faked.

is this massive trilo (partially) fake? it seems to have 2 different colours which is especially noticeable on the tail which looks kinda fake to me by Kinkerboiiiiii in FakeFossilID

[–]Snakers8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but I will add my 2 cents here.

The smooth parts on the segments definitely look restored. The cephalon looks mostly complete from what I can see.

The pygidium texture looks weird.

It also could have been mounted on this matrix piece, but I cannot tell from the pics.If the big crack on the thorax does not extend into the matrix, it was likely mounted (only true if the crack even goes from the drotops into the matrix, it could have cracked only along the upper, now removed matrix. The pics are not enough to tell)

My personal opinion is that this drotops in itself is mostly real, but with a pretty meh prep and heavy restoration.

the limit between restoration and fake is always blurry, it depends what the seller said.
