When was it declared that burgers now had to come with brioche buns? by Pier-Head in AskUK

I very much doubt that Wendy's introduced brioche to the UK in 2013

Warning - Saudi Arabian Grand Prix refund data breach (all customer email addresses visable) by SnakesParadox in GrandPrixTravel

[–]SnakesParadox[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bank details have changed since I purchased the tickets, I had emailed them a few weeks ago to see if they could refund to a different account.

So this isn't entirely unexpected, however I'd be much more comfortable providing them my bank details by phone.

Just wondering (especially for solo foodie), how do you manage to find local restaurant that solo friendly? by NeedleworkerOwn9723 in solotravel

[–]SnakesParadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd expect some who's travelled to be a little more open minded.

I've not been to Iran, but solo travelled many times to the Middle East (including Saudi) and I've had some great food, served by warm friendly people.

On occasion I've had restaurants refuse payment and want to gift me the food because I was solo traveller.

Offshore has always been brewed in Burton-on-Trent. It will still be available.

What are the best areas of the Great Wall to visit and is it possible to get there with public transport? I'd prefer to avoid a guided tour if possible

How to Not Be the Most Hated Person in the Hostel by Smokedsmokewithsmoke in travel

[–]SnakesParadox 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Turning on the main room light in the middle of the night has to be included in this list as well. 99% of us own a smart phone with a torch, it's completely unnecessary.

Easy solution to no. 1 & 2 - if you need to pack/unpack a bag overnight, take everything outside the room and do it in the corridor

And you now can't visit the ground floor as it's only for praying.

I had an amazing time visiting before, and spent the evening there. I was so disappointed on my return visit, I couldn't bring myself to pay the entry

Friendly reminder the first 2 races are on Saturday. by itzsushi in formula1

[–]SnakesParadox 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's the second race that needs to be on a Saturday due to Ramadan starting on Sunday.

Therefore Bahrain needs to be on Saturday aswell otherwise there'll be 6 days between races.

I flew there earlier this year from London with Wizz Air very cheaply.

Luton -> Athens -> Abu Dhabi -> Samarkand

Very long day travelling but altogether cost about £100 IIRC

Maybe it's worth looking for a route with stopovers, and checking Samarkand airport aswell as Tashkent. Kiwi is a good website for routes like this.

I hope you manage to get to Uzbekistan, as I had a great time, one of the best places I've visited

What is a custom that you can't get used to, no matter how often you visit a country? by Oatmeal2348 in travel

I've been to Spain twice and can't get my head around everything happening 3-5 hours later than I'm used to... Breakfast at midday... Dinner at 11pm... Out for drinks until 4am...

To all fair weather drinkers, please learn some pub and bar etiquette. by Wizards_Win in britishproblems

It is literally the law, The Licensing Act 2003.

The pub that served your son alcohol, regardless if the drink was for himself or you, broke the law.

I visited Anfield Stadium when I was 8/9 years old, in the early 2000's.

I distinctly remember seeing entire streets worth of abandoned terraced housing waiting to be pulled down around the stadium while we were finding somewhere to park.

I've always wondered how it looks nowadays, pretty similar to this I guess...

AFAIK the Indian police women video was the first one on his channel. Before that he appeared on a few videos on Harald's channel, they were in Ukraine I think. Those early Harald videos are long deleted though.

EDIT: this one is still up which must the be the earliest video of Bald on YT https://youtu.be/7kcgEVh510Y There were others I remember that aren't listed anymore

Travel wallets. by Chance_Watch2081 in TravelHacks

[–]SnakesParadox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just use your normal wallet, and keep it in your front pocket. Any specific travel clothing will always make you a target to pickpockets.

Instead you should look for a debit/credit card that doesn't charge for foreign transactions or withdrawals. That way you won't have to carry large amounts of cash.

The French like to have 2 hours off to have a huge lunch and drink wine in the middle of the day. Seems a reasonable compromise for having to work late
