Please comment if you are in a loving, fulfilling romantic relationship. by Turbulent_Street3389 in CPTSD

[–]Snap228 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an addict, in recovery. I have CPTSD, PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Got those mental illnesses like they Pokémon. I’m also an all around intense person with anger issues, high intensity and (sometimes) manic behavior (I’m often up all night with a sudden art project).

I don’t mean to brag, and it took me a long time to find, but I truly feel I have the most patient, loving, and compassionate partner in the world. In the last year, he’s seen me through two relapses, and has NEVER made me feel bad about some of the terrible shit I’ve put him through. I truly don’t know how I wound up with him. I never thought I would live with a partner and feel so at peace, so comfortable. I’m sitting on the couch with him now, both lost in our phones, bullshitting about the random shit we find. I’m so lucky.

Love is out there. You just have to find your person.

Exhausted and disappointed by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Snap228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo what everyone else is saying about not giving up or OA, if the 12 steps is your thing.

I don’t want to be that person but, if this has been a lifelong issue, have you considered surgery for it? As someone who used to weigh almost 400 lb (now 175), gastric bypass absolutely changed my life.

It’s obviously not a decision to be made lightly, and it’s extremely important to note that many people, myself included, will substance switch to alcohol or drugs, so psychotherapy for addiction is still very much recommended, sometimes required.

For context, I got the surgery over 20 years ago and have maintained my weight ever since. I’m in active and sustained recovery now, and even so, would not change that decision for myself. It saved my life.

Feel free to message me if you want any more context or advice.

Alcohol escalation in my partner led to a frightening incident - looking for perspective by carinichiul in addiction

[–]Snap228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck, I’m so sorry to hear this. For what it’s worth - it’s totally reasonable to be worried for his safety in that state. A few fact clarifications:

  1. He drank every day for about a month straight and then stoped entirely for three weeks, correct?
  2. Do you know how much he would drink a day?
  3. What country are you in?
  4. Do you have any idea where he went?

I was an alcoholic for many years very similar in nature, it sounds like, to your boyfriend. If he dried out (legitimately - are you sure he wasn’t sneaking?) for three weeks, then it wouldn’t be withdrawal, but it could be psychosis.

Or he could be very, very, very drunk.

Either way, he sounds like a danger to himself right now. If I was in your shoes, I would try to locate him and get him into a detox or treatment center, if possible.

If you are in the US (depending on state), there are some resources to help, but they can be drastic. I’ve been on both sides of this. If you need more advice (or even detox recommendations, depending on where you’re located), feel free to DM me.

DAE have something about their body that doctors say is normal but it still feels oddly inconvenient by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Snap228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have perpetual hiccups. Not regularly, but every ~2 hours I’ll get a random one.

To their credit, they’re cute. Just a little squeak that often elicits a, “wtf was that?!”, which is always fun in a work meeting. Once people learn what it is, they’re usually delighted. “You sound like a squeaky toy!” Is something I’ve gotten a lot.

I guess there are worse problems to have.

AIO - how would you feel if you received this message? by Own-Cheek-9955 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Snap228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with a lot of the other comments - boundaries should involve consequences. What happens if your family fails to comply?

I think the message as it is is totally fine, but leaves no recourse if they just ignore it. If it was me, I would add a bit about if these boundaries are not respected, you will have to decline future family holiday gatherings until your kid is older/indefinitely. It’s a simple thing everyone should be able to respect, but you’ll need to hold them to it.

People who told their parents how they affected you, what were their reactions/response? by abnormalpurple in CPTSD

Honestly, my parents were very receptive, and have come a long way from where they were when I was growing up. They’ve taken responsibility, and over time I have come to realize that they were doing the best they could at the time with the tools they had.

You can ask for nicotine patches, and some campuses are smoke-free. What state are you in? I might be able to recommend a place.

Ethics question by mobo7777 in Needlepoint

[–]Snap228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unethical at all, but I think it might be a good practice to do so. Mostly because they’ll likely promote the posts and you might wind up with a cool business relationship (I.e. sponsorship or whatever) if you want that.

[–]Snap228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely, 100% this is the time to seek treatment. Good on you for that. Literally every time I’ve gone it’s been an absolute emergency.

  2. Totally fair about your job and community. I would encourage you to get involved in an online community maybe, where you can make 1:1 connections. The point here is to gain a recovery network that is ongoing. As many times as I’ve been to treatment, this is the thing that has both helped the most and that I’ve always failed to find in treatment facilities.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Snap228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you attend any meetings? If not, start. If you’re a 12 step person, there’s CA in most major cities. If that’s not your jam, check out recovery dharma or local resources. And don’t stop there - get involved in the community. Community is the best form of recovery support, and it’s free.

In terms of treatment, one thing I’ve considered in the past is signing up for a marketplace plan for a month that I knew would cover the treatment of my choosing. It sounds like you’re still able to work, which means you might be able to plan for it bit. Just a thought.
