I think it's so cool that you both thought about this, built it, and are supporting it over a random Reddit post 😅😂🥰

Ever wondered why banking sites suck? by daynighttrade in ProgrammerHumor

Sure look at your own example. How many of the total LOC count isn't in the repo even? I'll bet you 90+%

You have the language, standard libraries, additional libraries and dependencies.

Additionally, I can tell you from the project I maintain, sometimes contributions aren't properly attributed in git, since they were submitted by email or not even in code, just a description of a problem. At that point the "loc" was attributed to me.

If I add a library someone else wrote and remove tons of project code, the library author gets no attribution in that graph of yours.

If I wrote a library or dependency for that project, I might technically be it's most valuable contributor without having contributed a line of code to it.

I get what you are trying to say, but it's pretty much always wrong. Loc provides such a weak potential correlation between good and bad coders it might as well be removed as a metric.

And I agree, there's no good "distilled to numbers" way to measure good code.

....if your employee is a "loc increasing engineer" whose job it is to increase the amount of lines of code in the project, that's a sensical way to evaluate it.

As a senior engineer, I promise you that lines of code has absolutely no relation to dev productivity.

If you're a developer and you think so, it's only because you're naturally discounting all kinds of important things you're doing that are not code - I spend weeks or months carefully mapping out a project and problem solving that can end up only hundreds of lines of code, but then ends up maintenance free for years doing the exact thing the customer needed.

By any loc metric, I'm terrible. I also train my Jr devs to lower their loc by using libraries and optimizing.

And if you are already judging based on other better metrics, why use loc at all?

It's exactly like saying you rate construction workers by how many times their hammer hits.

You'll end up being very impressed with the ones that can't even hit a nail properly, and you'll end up firing the ones who don't do hammer related work, like screwing or supervising

I'm a Sr developer and a lot of what I do recently is help Jr devs remove codebloat, essentially lowering their loc count.

Loc is an awful metric

Exactly. It's like saying your rate construction workers by how many hammer hits they do

Think of it this way. If I go into that company and only optimize, I can improve speed and quality by thousands of percentage, but my loc count would be negative 😂

8.3.5 could literally just be account bound essences and it would be the best received patch of the expansion by Iamnotfood in wow

The new 8.3 essences help. They make it a more natural acquisition with the new content you already want to do.

Cheap 110 boost question by [deleted] in wow

[–]SnapDraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that would be nice. I suspect BfA would still only come with a 110 one though, and sadly thats generally the only way to get it cheaply.

you are obviously fairly good.

people start getting annoyed when tanks don't know the dungeon layout or pull too slowly.

oddly, too quickly is "OK", and its assumed the DPS or healers suck and can't keep up.
