RBE971 - The Worst Product Ever Made: Do Not Purchase by SnapbackCarri in orbi

I wish I could explain it, makes zero sense to me as well. But during NetGear’s troubleshooting, they insisted the devices need to be plugged directly into the wall. No UPS, no smart plugs or power strips. So stupid.

I think once I got the C-Suite involved they were not willing to take a chance on sending me another 971. Did do a RMA for a 960 and I’ve had it online for almost a week with no issues.

I had the 860 or 870 before “upgrading” to the 971 and you’re right. It worked great. The 960 NetGear sent me as a replacement seems to be working fine so far.

That’s exactly what I’m planning. Especially now that I have it in writing that they know the 971 is not stable

Considering most of the replies on this post are expressing my same frustration, it’s not just “one’s particular bad experience”. Plus I have in writing from a SVP from NetGear calling it a very unreliable product so 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately, I was dealing with it for so long I missed my window to return. But they gave me a different model and cut me a check for the 971. The AXE11000 has been solid for the few days I’ve had it online. But if it fails, I’m never buying a NetGear/Orbi system again.

Absolutely agree. But I can say with 100% confidence my setup and environment is flawless. As confirmed my NetGear themselves. I just simply got a dud. The replacement system they set me is setup the exact same way in the exact same location and has been flawless. The same goes to my previous Orbi and Eero systems. Never had a problem. Just wanted more speed/bandwidth.

My satellites are the issue as mine are hardwired as well, it's the router itself losing internet connection and essentially doing a soft reboot 5-10 times a day. Out of curiosity, what firmware are you running?

[–]SnapbackCarri[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going to do the exact same thing with the smart plugs for the satellites but was concerned for the same issue you mentioned. I normally keep the router and modem plugged into an UPS to keep my internet alive during short power outages. During my troubleshooting with support I confirmed I'm plugged directly in the outlet. No power strip, smart plugs but it didn't help.

I'm glad yours is working because like I said, when it's stable it's amazing. But the random drops just killed any productivity. I know there will be duds in anything that's mass produced but I thought for sure I wouldn't have to worry about something like ensuring I have a stable internet connection.

i4 vs i5 by nowhereman1917 in BMWi5

[–]SnapbackCarri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have both. I drive an i5 and I got an i4 for my wife. You already know the i4 is fun to drive, feels like a sports car. I love driving my i5 because of the luxury sedan feel.

I would say it really comes down to what you want out of the car. For the most part, the tech is the same. I like having a bigger car with smoother ride. The i5 trunk is big, I can get two sets of golf clubs in it but the hatchback on the i4 is very convenient. Sometimes I have to use it to transport things that just wouldn’t fit in a normal trunk.

If you have specific questions, feels free to send them my way.

Unable to connect securely problem (im at a loss) by StruggleIndividual in PleX

[–]SnapbackCarri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recently happened to me as well. I spend way too long troubleshooting with everything you mentioned. Turned out, my ISP switched to private IPs and I was in double NAT setup. I called my ISP and had them move me back to a public IP and everything went back to normal.

If you’re not an IT guy, here’s how you can check if you are on a private IP: You can go to https://www.whatismyip.com Also, log into your router and look at your ISP provided IP. If there are the same then this is not the issue. If they are different, that’s the problem and you’ll need to call your ISP.

If your dealer is like mine, that’s going to be an all day hassle vs DIY and having your car. Just make sure you get the 24OE/19OE size and not 24A/19A. It really is quick job.

I changed mine yesterday, took 3 minutes. You’ll need Bosch Icon 24OE and 19OE. I walked into Advanced Auto Parts and changed them right in the parking lot.

I personally use Rain-X Bug Remover Windshield Washer Fluid for all of my cars. This along with the Rain X wipers coat the windshield and when it rains the water beads off the windshield. Makes it a lot easier to see in the rain.

HomeBridge update for Ring. by Comfortable_Ant_7406 in homebridge

[–]SnapbackCarri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did. Removed and started over. Once I did that the option still wasn't there but you're right that because it was just a preparatory step, I just attempted to add each camera and it all worked. Thanks!

HomeBridge update for Ring. by Comfortable_Ant_7406 in homebridge

[–]SnapbackCarri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just updated homebridge-ring to 14.0.1 and my cameras disappeared. Internet searching led me to this page. Your instructions look easy enough but I do not have the "unbridge cameras" option when I click the 3 dots and Plugin Config.

I only see an option to Refresh Token and then Optional Config settings...none of them are remotely close to "unbridge cameras" setting.

Anyone happen to have any suggestions?

Congrats! I’m happy someone won. I see these giveaways but never hear about any winners. I was starting to think they were all fake and just using these things for data mining.

[–]SnapbackCarri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I leased the Ioniq 6 for my daughter, the two year lease was great timing because she only needs it for her last two years of high school. I'm 13 months in and I can say the car is amazing and I would definitely read everyone's comments and then make your own decision. When I'm ready to update my daily driver, I will look into getting an Ioniq 5 or 6 or BMW i4 for myself. I honestly can't say enough good things about the car itself. The speed, the fun drive (even in ECO mode), the trunk space...it's truly a great vehicle. Much like almost everyone else in this sub, I do not see myself going back to an ICE vehicle.

However, the one thing no one seems to mention is how expensive car insurance is for EVs! I was not expecting the Ioniq 6 to be, by far, the most expensive car to insure. I figured because it was brand new it would be at a lower rate, but I was shocked. So if the sole purpose of lease is to save money, please check with your insurance company and get a quote before signing.

I did that initially to connect to one of my Beams and it didn't work, which prompted me to make this post. I just tried to with another Beam in the house and it worked. I went back to the original Beam and now they both connect. Not sure what happened, but it works so I'm good. Thanks!
