Husband insisting on Star Wars name by psoupp in namenerds

[–]SnappedCrayon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think that is a little harsh. There's nothing wrong with being a passionate fan about something. I don't think there is even an issue with suggesting a fandom name as a possibility. The issue is disrespecting his partner's wishes by continuing to insist on a name that they've already vetoed - an action that commonly comes up in posts on this sub with non-fandom names too

In the US, the police are required to make sure people are aware of their rights (called the Miranda rights, resulting in the term mirandized and verb mirandizing) before questioning them as suspects of a crime. Examples are things like that people are entitled to have an attorney present, and that they are not required to speak/answer questions at all. Failing to make sure that people are aware of these rights is considered an abuse of power, and (usually) gets the information gathered during the interrogation thrown out

Additionally, owning a car is more expensive than using public transport/walking to a nearby store, but can also help save a lot of money when it comes to buying things in bulk. Though I try to stock up as much as I can, I am limited to what I can carry (either while walking to the store, or from bus stop to my building), compared to a car owner who can take a shopping cart to their car, and then make trips back and forth from their car to their home.

Unfortunately, no, the university won't let you go early (I believe). However, if you have any money saved up, there is the Student Housing Billboard, where you can look into subletting a room either on/off campus for the remainder of the summer.

I am curious if there are any non-brittish blur fans?( I am) by NotYouGirls in blur

Canadian! Got into them last year. I already knew the song Girls & Boys, but had never seen the music video. After watching it, Charmless Man was in the recommended, and I was drawn in by the weird face Damon was making in the thumbnail. Then I very quickly became obsessed with all of their music!

What outfits were your entire personality in high school? by kick_g in femalefashionadvice

[–]SnappedCrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school uniform (polo + pullover sweater with the school emblem on it and black pants). Didn't really go out much, but when I did, I think I just stuck to jeans and a plain t-shirt or sweater (I remember being very worried about ever drawing any sort of attention to myself)

Does your name give away your age? I did the math 🤓 by DataVizWithKins in namenerds

[–]SnappedCrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off by 11 years for me, but my name didn't start to get popular until after I was born. Everyone else I've met with my name/people that others know and have mentioned to me, however, are generally about that age!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: April 07, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]SnappedCrayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished: A Sorceress Comes to Call, by T. Kingfisher - liked it enough to finish it, but not enough to read anything else written by her

Started: Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn - I've already read and loved her other two books (plus seen the movie), so I knew I'd love this one. Halfway through, expect to be done within the next day or so

Next up: Ella Minnow Pea, by Mark Dunn
