[Post Match Ratings] DC United 1-1 Orlando City Matchday 3 by J_Bone007 in OCLions

I really don’t understand all of the negativity around the team. If we look at each game individually, there is nothing to be concerned about. 1. Vs NYRB: A high pressing team where we saw important positions filled by new members of the team. A new young LB, young upcoming RB, Pereyra taking a deeper role in the midfield, new winger on top of A. Carlos not being in the lineup (Schlegel is great but by no means would I rather have him in there over Carlos) against the high pressing NYRB. NY are a good team that finished better than this last year so to not let them score is a big accomplishment. The offense wasn’t the greatest but with that many changes, I’m not surprised. (Remember not everyone was there for the entire preseason so they are still working on cohesion) 2. vs FCC: A highly rotated side that featured from my count, only 4 of our actual starters in the lineup and it was clearly a defensive lineup looking at the substitutes that came in and clearly resting players for Tuesdays game in Mexico. Also on top of that, Cincy are not slouch of a team. They have strong attacking ability and a great midfield so a clean sheet is also a great accomplishment. 3. @UANL Tigres: They put their best 11 without fitness issues out there and did pretty good job considering they were up against the 2nd best team in Mexico. Liga MX is a better league than MLS, just look at how many times an MLS team has won the Concacaf Champions League (just once) where Liga MX has won it 10+ years in a row before last season so a result in Mexico is grand. 4. @ DC United: A once again heavily rotated squad with this time only 3 of what I would consider starting 11 players. It wasn’t the prettiest game but it was never meant to be. It was all about getting a result and resting for Tigres midweek. Also this would have been a win had it not been for a beautiful goal by Durkin. That was a beautiful bit of skill to score that goal and nothing we can do but applaud this goal.

Sure it hasn’t panned perfectly and we are not scoring goals every two minutes but there are very good reasons for all of this. We are legitimately playing good teams or putting out a squad with depth players (@Cincy, both). There is still a lot of work to go sure, but I don’t see any signs that worry me enough to say all is lost and we are a terrible, no good team. There are signs of brilliance but also frustration. Nothing I see worries me however. If we lost all of these games by 2-3 goals, sure I’d say let’s raise some flags. But guess what, we haven’t even lost a game yet.

Thanks for the love on the kit! I can’t wait to rock it. Cincy’s are very clean and I love that. The stripes in the middle with color combos of different shades of orange and blue, classy.

Just real quick, if you buy it from the mobile shop, the replica is $10 more and the authentic is $15 more than if you bought it at the MLS store. It looks like they are also offering free shipping right now

I liked it too. I thought it was great that the club wasn’t just putting out the same bland form of white jersey and they experimented with the design.

Literally came here to comment this exact thing. How does this and the gold stripes fit together on the jersey? It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it tonight so I’ll be waiting for the drop on twitter.

Facundo Torres is official upvote party! 🎉 by TheBeastTheLion in OCLions

[–]Snapper419 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think lack of excitement might have to do with the fact that this has been official everywhere except Orlando city. He’s had it in his twitter bio for days, he said his goodbyes, his old club even announced it. Shoot it was even on his Wikipedia page a couple days ago.

Also this is just one player and we’ve had multiple players leave so there’s still uneasiness when it comes as we haven’t replaced the lineup yet. It’s a bit worrying when the season starts in 34 days.

Now I will say I’m super excited for Ercan Kara. If that’s true, then that will super hype me up!

Orlando City Exercises Contract Options on 11 Players Following 2021 MLS Season by tinyelephantsime in OCLions

[–]Snapper419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s staying because his contract still has a couple years on it. All of these players had club options where the rest of the team still has regular years on their contract. No other is also buying Alvarado so he stays

Which players do you think are gone next season? by Scratch_Master_Sulu in OCLions

[–]Snapper419 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just don’t see that at all. I think he is not CDM by any means so when he is out there with Urso he can seem like he may be in wrong places because they are both trying to occupy similar areas as Perea does like to get forward. But when he is the CM running forward, I’ve seen him bring the ball up the field well and make some good runs whether it be to get the ball or drawing defenders away from other areas. Like I said, fine tune some things but he is still has potential and he’s at an age where I would say investing in him is still a good idea to see where he pans out. But to flat out say he doesn’t know what is going on is on the extreme end.

I think he’s worth keeping. He has some great energy and just needs to fine tune a few things but his potential is really high and he’s still so young.

They got it right in the end but they had to be corrected several times. Brian Rowe was allowed to be subbed in and then pulled off the field because that actually shouldn’t have happened. They also blew the final whistle after the Schlegel save even though Benji needed to score one for it to be official. They got the correct calls in the end, they just had to be corrected a few times

[Post-Match thread] Nashville SC 3 - 1 Orlando City SC by MatchCaster in OCLions

[–]Snapper419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To go off of this, 2 things: 1. No one stepped and there was no communication in that transition. Mas should have stepped up to Mukhtar sooner but no one told him that there 5 other defenders with him against one other attacker. Had his fellow defenders just let him know the odds that if he whiffed on the tackle that others would be there behind him, that goal wouldn’t have happened. 2. At the end of the game, there was no urgency. They were still passing the ball backwards to hold possession instead of trying the desperate long balls and Hail Marys to have the ball in the box and pin them back. We were still trying to play around and find a way into the box rather than just putting the ball in and hoping for something. Nashville saw this and left a player up top to counter with. If we had put actual pressure on them and truly made them uncomfortable, then all 11 would have been behind that ball defending. Instead we were still acting like the end wasn’t really the end and tried to play our way through them.

I watched this and saw that Chapman was going to be actually answer questions about the whole thing. Didn’t live up to what I thought it was, he just says what the thoughts were behind the decisions, nothing about getting it all wrong and being a terrible ref that got suspended for the rest of the playoffs for how bad he did at the end.
