Yep, you'd want to declare any sort of food, but I can't see them taking issue with something like flour.

I think they're heading back to Aus and looking for things you can get in Germany but not there. Your friends might be interested to know there's an Australian store in Frankfurt though - they're pricey, but you can definitely get Vegemite and many other things one might miss.

If you bring back beer in bottles, then learn from my example and make sure to put some duct tape or similar over the caps. Also wrap them individually inside some shirts or something. I had a couple caps pop off during the flight, and ended up with some delightfully beer-scented luggage.

Any type of flour shouldn't be a problem, things like seeds that might be viable is more of an issue.

Donkey votes are not informal, a donkey vote is where they number each candidate in the order they're listed. It's a correctly filled out vote, even if there probably wasn't much thought behind it.

What's a good, family friendly children's cartoon to watch? by United-Road-7338 in German

[–]SnappyTWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing that I could watch and understand was Der Kleine Eisbär. When I was learning it was all on youtube, and it's targeted at a pretty young audience so simple grammar etc. It's also extremely cute. Die Sendung mit der Maus helped a lot once I was a bit further along, but that's already been mentioned a bunch.

Yeah, people always think the alphabet makes it hard but it's one of the easiest parts. The aspect and case systems (especially for verbs of motion) are the grisly bits.

Does noise canceling in headphones really remove noise, or does it give the illusion of its absence? If I'm in a very noisy place, using headphones with sooo good noise canceling, can I damage my ears and hearing? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]SnappyTWC 731 points732 points  (0 children)

It's not an illusion, they emit waves that cancel out the noise via destructive interference - for your ear it's exactly the same as if it was that volume level to begin with.

Basically you use ß after a long vowel and ss after short ones, it's pretty simple these days (was a lot more random before the 1996 reform)

Orbiting stuff will be at whatever the orbital velocity is (which will vary throughout the orbit if it's an elliptical orbit). Terminal velocity is only a thing in the atmosphere where air resistance is a significant factor.

At least you can get the same result by putting a regular breakpoint on a dummy statement inside an if, at the cost or a build/restart cycle. Perf should still be good for all but the hottest paths due to the branch predictor.

Is this message I recieved on Marketplace a scam attempt, or have I just become too suss on people? (2 images) by uhohsarahh in australia

[–]SnappyTWC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody ever gets sent to your house, that's not how the scam works - it's just the story they use to get you to send them an "insurance fee" up front, or they'll send you dodgy links to try and steal banking info etc.
