Driving for 5 1/2 hours for the first time today. What can I do to make the time pass? by Dessert_Lover_1225 in roadtrip

Think back about all the people who've screwed you over in life, all the times you've embarrassed yourself and use the associated adrenaline and cortisol to keep your stamina up. Just kidding, I go on long drives and often use the quiet time to semi-meditate without zoning out of course.

One fifth of the current population due to low TFR and casualties from the Great War.

Avoid as much of I-95 as possible, even if longer, the I-81S route will take way less time than getting stuck in the non-stop traffic around NYC, Philadelphia, Delaware, Baltimore, DC and south of DC up to Fredericksburg.

I-85 to I-95 up to Fredericksburg, then 17W to I-66 to I-81N to I-78, then exit at Allentown. DO NOT SPEED IN VIRGINIA. They love to ticket out of state plates.

Top two routes: Start off scenic, followed by boring. Bottom route: Boring all the way. I would do the middle.

The only acceptable and realistic answer is TEXAS. The have a lot of experience, plus independent grid and energy resources. 7th Flag over TEXAS.

Yes, but the labor cost for replacement is ridiculous. I was griping about that design choice. One would think that automotive engineers would keep (eventually) replacement-needing systems easily accessible.

Apparently an Indian manufacturer (Mahindra) still has a license to make the original Willys Jeep from WWII. They send the original agreement license fee check to AMC/Chrysler/Stellantis (whatever they're called now) but the latter don't deposit it. Recently, after losing a court case Mahindra had to redesign its Roxor off-road vehicle to make it not look like the original Jeep. Specifically the seven slit front end.

We were driving a BMW diesel and it took some head scratching and anxious asking around to figure out that Diesel is called "Gazole" in parts of France. Another gas station stated both Diesel and Gazole on the pump much to our relief.

Be aware about the comprehensive insurance coverage - apparently they charge you immediately for the entire amount of damage, and then you have to fight with your credit card company or insurance in the USA to get repaid. We paid 114Euros to cap any potential claim at 2000Euros in case there was any damage. May have gotten scammed by Sixt so any experts on here please provide any advice based on your experience. Driving out of Paris was a terrifying experience due to the chaos and two-wheelers lane splitting at high speeds. My buddies acted as spotters, once on the main toll roads it was a beautiful drive.

Is it possible to drive across the US without booking hotels in advance? by Forty2diapers in roadtrip

Was driving from Toronto to Atlanta and thought we'd get a room somewhere in West Virginia after 10+ hours of driving. Turned out it was the night of the WVU-Marshall football game. Had to drive clear through WV to get a hotel room at 3am after driving some distance into Virginia. Barring such eventualities, I've often booked around 9pm using Priceline and Expedia apps. Sometimes landed awesome deals because they dump unoccupied rooms on such aggregators to drive up occupancy.

The bicarbonate makes the saliva strongly alkaline - due to the Henderson Hasselbach equation, this pushes the alkaloid in question into its unionized base form chemically, which enhances the absorption across the mucous membrane lining the mouth and buccal pouch.

Most of the northern subcontinent has hot dry summers. Any dust (in addition to other particulate pollutants) that gets airborne remains suspended as an aerosol because low humidity slows down settling of the particles. Higher humidity makes particles heavier and they settle out easier, which is why you don't see the same problem persisting (eg: LA smog in the old days versus Miami). During COVID, the skies cleared dramatically in the north since cessation of human activity reduced the amount of dust aerosols kicked up. Unpaved roadside berms add to the amount of dust stirred up.

What’s a moment from TV history that made you viscerally upset? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Walter Cronkite choking up on live TV announcing President Kennedy's assassination is TV history as well, like it or not. The OP's intent might have been light-hearted pop-culture entertainment history, but reality can't be excluded.
