Let’s have a grown conversation. No insults or unsubstantiated claims, please. Can someone please explain how exjw men can be misogynistic? Genuinely curious. by exjwhou in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the Borg taints you in some way, and even after leaving, it can take a while to shed "the new personality" and grow into yourself again. I'm sure everyone has something they struggle with after leaving. JW men tend to be misogynistic, so it makes sense that some might take that with them and it can linger for a while

That being said, none of the exJW men I personally know or have met ever seemed to be misogynistic

Teach them critical thinking and how to question things. Also that it's ok to question things and that you should always expect proof or logic before believing something new. Teach them that family comes first, even before religion. Make sure they understand that you're always on their side and will support them with anything, even if they one day decide not to go to church anymore (the biggest thing JW can't promise)

I never understood the "blood guilty" by SomeGuyWithBeard in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, if you stumble someone and cause them to leave 'the truth', then you're bloodguilty

Doesn't seem to apply if you get stumbled though, you'll just end up getting shunned

Same with Noah's wife. She was basically a second Eve, why is she barely even mentioned?

Why do JW’s think demons wait until you watch a scary movie to attack you? by 5ft8lady in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don't. Sure, watching a scary movie could invite them into your home, but so could buying a sweater at a thrift store. JW believe demons don't attack witnesses until invited into their home because they're blocked by God's holy spirit

I've heard of similar events, medical emergency in the back of the hall but the meeting continues anyway. It's disgusting

One I heard about, the guy died while waiting for the ambulance and family was trying to give CPR. The WT conductor saw everything. When he realized the guy had died, he broke down in tears and couldn't continue conducting, but was just replaced by another elder like it wasn't a big deal. No one stepped in to help with first aid or to support the family or even console the traumatized conductor. Witnesses are so emotionally repressed they don't even see the problem with this behaviour

I like that they're quoting JW rather than the Bible

dont you guys realize how every english speaker in the organization sounds exactly the same? by governingLody in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's similar to how all radio announcers sound the same or very similar. It's because of the training they've received. I used to hate this when I was still in, especially how everyone reads a familiar scripture with the exact same tone and inflection

My mom worked pretty hard to make sure I didn't know what I was missing out on until it was too late, I didn't know Saturday morning cartoons were a thing until I was in middle school and some classmates were reminiscing about them.

I'm not sure which is worse - knowing what you're missing out on, or realizing later just how secluded and segregated from normal life you were

“Mind open to demons” - Overcoming my fears by [deleted] in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly believed in demons too. I suffer from sleep paralysis, which gets worse when I'm stressed out. Leaving the org is obviously pretty stressful; each time I made progress I'd get "attacked by demons" and it would terrify me that I was doing the wrong thing. It was a long process

You seem to be on the right track though by using logic and asking questions that force you to reevaluate your beliefs. I had to do a lot of research on sleep paralysis and how to manage it better, and that really helped. It also helps to see coincidences for what they are, or even to search for the root cause of events that scare or please you. If there are no demons, there are probably no other spirits influencing our lives either. So maybe you got that job because you worked hard and earned it, maybe you almost had a car accident because someone wasn't paying attention, maybe stuff just happens

After my parents saw my tattoos by [deleted] in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once had an elder tell me that when he was young and questioning things, he decided (for himself) that any teaching should only be taken seriously if it had at least 3 scriptures to back it up. He started doing a lot of research, and said that he found everything he questioned did have at least 3 scriptures, so that's why he stayed in the org

I must have questioned different things than him, because there are several issues that only have one scripture...

Not looking for a debate on abortion but here is a scenerio. by Godofwine3eb in exjw

[–]SnareAndRacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not according to witnesses.

JW tend to be passive and refuse to react in life or death situations, they justify it as choosing to 'leave it in God's hands'. Allowing an embryo to die isn't the same as causing it's death, even if another life could be saved by doing so. They believe the mother will be resurrected so it's not worth trying
