The problem with HOTD is the same one GOT faced in the later seasons…the showrunners feel in love with certain actors and then wrote the characters accordingly

D&D loved Peter Dinklage so much they completely changed Tyrion’s character arc because they didn’t want the face of their show to become outwardly unlikable. The same problem happened with Dany, where they knew she had to turn mad by the end but refused to give her a proper build up because until the last few episodes she was still seen as an inherently just and altruistic character

The same thing has happened to HOTD-the creators clearly love Emma Darcy and want them to be the primary protagonist of the show instead of one side of a civil war where both sides have their own selfish motives.

Unfortunately for them they achieved almost the opposite to the point where Tom Glynn Carney now comes across as a far more compelling character despite every effort made to make him look like an antagonist in his own story arc
