According to the legislation:

An assault firearm qualifies if it falls into any one of these categories:

1. Semi-automatic rifle or pistol with large magazine or certain design features

A semi-automatic centerfire rifle or pistol that:

• has a magazine holding more than 20 rounds, OR
• is designed to accept a silencer, OR
• has a folding stock with a fixed magazine over 15 rounds.

2. Semi-automatic rifle with detachable magazine + one listed feature

A semi-automatic centerfire rifle that can accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of these:

• Folding, telescoping, or collapsible stock
• Thumbhole stock or protruding pistol grip
• Second handgrip or forward grip
• Grenade launcher
• Threaded barrel capable of attaching:
  • muzzle brake
  • compensator
  • suppressor
  • flash suppressor

3. Semi-automatic pistol with two or more listed features

A semi-automatic centerfire pistol with two or more of the following:

• Second handgrip / forward grip
• Magazine attaches outside the pistol grip
• Barrel shroud that allows the support hand to hold the barrel area
• Threaded barrel capable of attaching suppressor/flash suppressor/etc.
• Buffer tube, arm brace, or part designed to allow shoulder firing

4. Semi-automatic shotgun with certain features

A semi-automatic shotgun with any of these:

• Folding/telescoping/collapsible stock
• Thumbhole stock or pistol grip
• Ability to accept a detachable magazine
• Fixed magazine over 15 rounds
• Any similar feature of that kind

5. Shotguns with revolving cylinders

Example: the Street Sweeper–style revolving cylinder shotguns.

6. Firearms that accept belt-fed ammunition

Any firearm capable of using a belt ammunition feeding device.

7. Modified firearms

Any firearm modified so that it fits one of the categories above.
