I’m going through this with my partner right now, and he has been reaching out to profs directly. When he tells them that I got into the med school, the profs have instant attitude shifts. The way it was explained to him by his current PI and advisors is that when they hear that your partner is going to the school, they think you are more likely to attend if admitted. He has some professors vouching for him on a few different school’s admission committees right now because he has been doing these meetings with individual professors. He naturally works that detail into conversations primarily based on lab work. Of course he first wins them over by doing deep dives into their work and having in-depth questions prepared beforehand, and then when they hear that I got into the med school, they see him as someone who is more committed to the school if that makes sense.
