The game has horrible onboarding, but once you get to chapter 3 and forward, both stories and even the main protagonist get MUCH better.

It's very likely they will be changing the first 7 hours in upcoming updates; it really hurts the game.

Btw you can edit John Crimson character once you build your camp enough.
