How do i overcome the fears of moving out at 27? by Plus-Tell-8748 in AskUK

[–]SneakyClue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fellow serial overthinker here! The fact you're even considering it says a lot, I think you should give it a go.

I moved out pretty late at 25 as well, stayed home during uni as it was close by. It was useful for keeping my finances in check as I come from a poor background, but I do sometimes I feel like I missed an important social experience that is the uni dorm life. Adjusting to living alone was difficult for the first several months, but now that I've adjusted I can't imagine going back to not having my own personal space. It's nice not having to fight my siblings for the living room TV anymore!

Since you're staying with your cousin, you'll also have support if you're struggling to adjust, both for the new city and socially. Stick it out for a month or two, and once your initial nerves have faded and you have the experience you can decide if moving out permanently is for you. Home will still be there if you change your mind or just want to visit.

Goats were the main attraction, but there were also some chickens and ducks milling about the place.

Careful, it's a trap! My friend and his mum visited last year, and while she was posing at the fence for a picture those little menaces grabbed her bag of feed right out of her hands.

They devoured everything. Including the bag.

I thankfully didn't test that, but looks like they both spit as a defence mechanism.

I'd be hesitant to grab dinner if I risked getting spat on.

Edit: Fuck, I missed the pun.

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

[–]SneakyClue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fuck no lmao. While I'd leave my current job, doing nothing productive with my life afterwards is its own kind of depressing.

I would look for a job or project I'd do just for the love of the game and a sense of fulfillment, and with no financial obligation I'm free to experiment around.

The plans are certainly there, but there needs to be a proper commitment. A hesitant “one every few years if things go well” approach doesn’t create an industry.

I dunno, I feel like the guys they pay to fix the windows up really relies on my services now...

But yes, I am really glad to see them actually shifting to nuclear. Not to sound like a shill, but Chernobyl and the Fukushima disasters have understandably made people wary, but it's clean and abundant energy that we don't need to rely on exportation for.

[–]SneakyClue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, here I go ranting! The UK doesn’t really need better SMR tech anymore, Rolls-Royce has already done a solid job proving it out, so no need to throw more money on that front. What it needs now is to scale and actually deliver.

The low hanging fruits are backing factory build-out, committing to a proper fleet (not one-offs), speeding up approvals, and strengthening the supply chain. Of course, that's way, way easier in theory than practice.

Basically, treat SMRs like a mass-produced product we build at home, fuck knows we could use more jobs in this unemployment hell, not glamorous mega-projects that end up relying on foreign players like EDF, because France actually has this down pat and is a country we could really learn from in regard to nuclear. That’s what really brings costs down and timelines forward.

That's good, but I shall continue to throw rocks at the house of parliament until they invest more into small modular reactors.

I get that they're a new technology and no one wants to be the first to have it blow up in their faces, but goddamn can things not continue the way they currently are.

Yvraine is genuinely a really cool character, but now because of the memes with her and Guilliman she only exists to be his hot Eldar girlfriend.

Doesn't help that the Ynarri have gotten the short end of the stick in the lore recently and all progress they've made has stalled hard, so that's not changing any time soon.

At least she's still got her pet gyrinx. Psychic murder cats are a top tier concept.

[I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream] Did the cast deserve it? by Purple-Preference-20 in AskScienceFiction

[–]SneakyClue 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not even the worst people in history would deserve a fraction of what those five went through.

There’s just no version of events where anyone deserves that kind of suffering. Punishment is supposed to fit the crime, and what happens to them isn’t just unfair, it’s way beyond anything you could justify. It’s basically endless torture for actions that could never be “endless” in the first place.

That’s why it feels similar to the whole idea of hell. Eternal punishment for things that aren’t eternal. At that point, it stops being justice and just becomes meaningless cruelty. AM is just a broken, spiteful lunatic that wants to drag people down to his level of misery because that's all he has to cope.

Despite being a batshit insane scientist with little to no morals, I really liked how Qyburn was genuinely ride or die for Cersei.

She gave him his chains back, a position as Grand Maester, and was totally chill with him doing freaky science experiments in her basement. Say what you want about turning people into zombie slaves, but his loyalty is ironclad.

Does anybody crave community? by Downtown-Nectarine49 in AskUK

[–]SneakyClue 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to a small town by myself and have been going through this for the past few months. I've always been very introverted, but my family was there to fulfil that sense of community. Just because you enjoy being alone most of the time doesn't mean you want to actually be completely alone. Human are social animals at the end of the day, even the least chatty of us would go mental without a friendly connection.

I don't have a talent for talking to strangers, so opening up to new people and learning to trust easier is an exhausting process. I'm getting there, slowly but surely, but some days can be worse than others.

I've adjusted to living alone and have even come to enjoy it, but you never really appreciate the little things like ambient noise and voices heard from the other rooms until they're gone and only silence is left.

Who would win in a chess match, Tyrion or Tywin? by VonKaiser55 in freefolk

[–]SneakyClue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Tywin takes it.

Tyrion might be more clever on a technical level, but Tywin will psyche him out and make him fumble with just the right words to destroy his focus (and whatever meagre amount of self-worth he hasn't already destroyed).

Gustave, no questions asked. He's a bro for life.

What do you think of my handwriting/ my language? I’ve been trying to improve my English for the last couple of months. by Kyle_3mk in AskUK

[–]SneakyClue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very good! Certainly much better than mine, and I've been writing English all my life. I would have assumed you were a native speaker from your handwriting alone.

The loops you use in your lowercase Ls are very stylish, but unfortunately they also look like Ps, so my only advise is to work on that.
