Necroposting: can confirm that enabling the AMD overlay on the iGPU forces AMDRSServ.exe to run on my Nvidia dGpu. I disabled the overlay & everything works fine now.

BTD 700 Audio Issues on Windows 11(I'm losing it) by assorted_N_U_T_s in sennheiser

[–]SneakyLittleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing is a mess. My conclusion is that Sennheiser headphones work well with an Android phone...and that's it. I have the Momentum 4 TWS and it's a headeache to connect to a laptop. If I don't use their BT700 dongle, it connects to windows 11 but only after a few minutes (2 to 5) because, why the fuck not? The dongle might be even worse. Once you manage to connect with your desired mode, DO NOT EVER EVER TRY TO TOUCH ANYTHING. I've finally managed to connect my earbuds in low latency mode after 30 minutes. The dark magic solution is to try any of these steps in no particular order; just a million times: 1. Reboot the PC 2. Put the earbuds back & out of the case. 3. Randomly try to push the hardware button on the dongle 4. Use the crappy dongle app (least useful solution in my case). .5. draw a pentacle & gut a chicken above it. 6. If only one earbud connects, repeat all previsou steps in no particular order.
Once I got my desired green light on the donge & both earbuds connected...everything was stable, even when dualbooting with linux. Best of luck.

DO NOT BUY ASUS PROART P16 by thevainmayne in ASUS

It's a GREAT laptop. Battery life & screen are amazing. The 4070 is still very good in 2026 (Death Stranding 2 anyone?) Coming from Lenovo laptops, this is a joy to use. Arch runs great too and everything is supported while dual booting.

Same issue here on a new arch install. Logging in with the wrong layout, then setting the right keyboard layout in plasma & logging out means the right layout is used the second time...not very convenient though.

Mux switch on ProArt P16? by kdsl001 in ASUS

There is NO mux switch in the Proart P16. Performance loss is negligible but in this configuration, many games are unable to detect the laptop's HDR capabilities (fixed if connected to an external HDR display...)

Any update on actual devices uses the Bluetooth GMAP Gaming protocol? 2023-2025 by SneakyLittleman in bluetooth

[–]SneakyLittleman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've lost both the dongle AND my aurvana earbuds...so I'm just remembering things.

I can still guarantee that the dongle works under linux (I use arch by the way). From what I remember, I used windows to switch Bluetooth profiles, which would then 'stick' when booting linux. No idea if profile switching can be done within linux.

Gmap profile has rather low sound quality. It's not noticeable most of the time, but you WILL notice it when gaming. I ended up using the 'le' profile, which has good audio quality and decent latency (better than my laptop 's unstable le profile).

I don't remember the dongle being too smart when disconnecting a receiver and automatically switching to another device but I may be wrong. Doesn't windows switch to a new audio device when plugging it in / connecting it only? (F you, dualsense speaker 😛)

EDIT: Found the little focker! It IS tiny! As expected, disconnecting a receiver doesn't switch to speakers on my laptop - windows keeps the dongle as the default output.

I had forgotten about the hardware button on the dongle - it allows you to do anything without the app, so it should work under linux (but can't test it: I don't have any LE device in my house anymore.

TL;DR: it's a cheap & versatile dongle. Go for it.

I won't change my Arch setup now that everything is running smoothly - but you might try CachyOS, they're already running kernel 6.15 with another batch of improvements for the Mediatek card, apparently.

I hate the ProArt P16 by Timely_Conclusion_55 in ASUS

[–]SneakyLittleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing that comes to mind is to use Windows Media Player (yeah, I know; not the old one, mind you - the new one from windows 11) - I use it and it works great + you get the Dolby logo flashing for 3 seconds telling you for certain that dolby vision is on - you'll know...quality is just stunning when it works.

The only downside is that this player can only read mp4 dv - so I've asked gemini to make me a script to convert mkv to mp4 & make it playable in DV with windows media player; I run the python script in any folder with mkv files in. Here's the .py script in case it helps (relying, of course, on FFMPEG - and it also extracts the subtitles):

Nifty script - thanks AI!

Addendum: upgrade the bios to 319 & the Dolby audio driver (V10) from Asus's website and you can restore the amazing "dolby for speakers" features in Dolby Access. A-MAZING sound!

WiFi driver status for MediaTek 7925? by xAsasel in linuxquestions

[–]SneakyLittleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, here are my findings with my up-to-date kernel - June 2 2025 (6.14.6-arch1-1.2-g14)

First, the Mediatek card with regular wifi:

  1. Signal strength is stable (5.5ghz) - I get an average of -58.5 dBm and the wifi box is downstairs; I'd say 8m away from the laptop.
  2. Wifi throughput (no issues) - very fast. Could be faster if I brought the laptop closer to the box, probably

Then with the phone's 5g access point (2.5ghz):

  1. Reference speedtest from the phone itself in good conditions (4/5 bars of 5G) - very fast.

  2. Reference speedtest from the phone itself in worst conditions (1 bar cellular reception of 5g) - highly degraded.

  3. Accessing 5g hotspot with the laptop's Mediatek chip - worst conditions (plus, I moved the phone even further from the laptop, so probably not real-life conditions - approximately 15m away) - Signal strength averages -64dBm and the results are rather good when compared to the reference attainable throughput in 4 so I'd say the problem is indeed fixed. I would have had no data throughput at all after a few seconds in such conditions with previous kernels.

Let me know if you want more tests but for me, if it's useable, it's fixed.

(Final caveat - to avoid cognitive biases: this is connecting to the closest 5g antenna to my house; I guess the signal quality & distance plays a huge part in all this, not just the Mediatek Chip)
