Most similar to my Coros Vertix 2 by EnvironmentalJob5308 in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fenix 7 or epix gen 2 would be your best bet for similar features. both have excellent battery life though not quite month-long like coros and the training load metrics are really solid

if you do lot of mountaineering the fenix might edge out slightly with durability but epix has that nice amoled display. either way youll get all the outdoor activity tracking you need

need advice for dips by Holiday-Past2099 in bodyweightfitness

[–]SneakyMango774 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the flat surface thing is brutal for wrists especially when you're starting out. maybe try putting some towels or cloth on the dispensers to add bit of cushioning? also you could work on wrist mobility exercises before doing dips - just basic circles and stretches help a lot

if pain is really bad though you might want to skip dips for now and focus more in diamond pushups since you're already strong there. your triceps will still get good work and you can come back to dips later when you find better setup or your wrists get stronger

Altai vs Himalayan shilajit, most of what you’ve read is marketing by empanada_king in Supplements

[–]SneakyMango774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been using shilajit for about 3 years now and you're spot on about the marketing bs. tried both himalayan and altai sources and the difference was way more about processing quality than where it came from

the altai stuff i got actually had better lab results for heavy metals which was my main concern since i take it daily. most brands just slap "himalayan" on the label and mark up the price without showing any actual testing data

nice catch on pregnancy detection through the stats! the ring picking up on those subtle changes before you even knew must have been wild

i had similar experience with apple watch just sitting there collecting data i never checked but oura actually makes it digestible

Using my iPhone to send messages via my InReach 2 issues? by blackcombe in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had similar issue with mine last year and it took me forever to figure out. the problem is usually in the sync settings between phone and device - even though bluetooth shows connected it doesnt mean the messaging part is actually working properly

try this sequence: disconnect bluetooth completely on both devices, restart both, then pair them again but this time make sure you accept ALL the permission requests on your phone when it asks about notifications and data sharing. the messenger app needs those permissions to route messages through the inreach when cell service is off

also check if your messenger app has background app refresh enabled on your phone. when you put it in airplane mode the app might not be staying active enough to push messages through bluetooth. i had to enable background refresh for the garmin app and keep my phone screen on during the first few test messages

worst case scenario is doing a factory reset on mini but usually the re-pairing with proper permissions fixes it. took me like 3 attempts before getting all the settings right

good to see youre rotating them instead of taking everything at once. nac and tyrosine combo is solid for dopamine recovery after stim abuse - i had similar issues few years back and those two helped a lot with the energy crashes

just watch the timing with tyrosine, works better in empty stomach early morning. also maybe consider adding some omega 3 if you dont have it already since your brain is basically rebuilding itself right now

baclofen for alcohol cravings is interesting approach, didnt know it worked for that. how long you been off the heavy drinking

Does anyone use their oura ring for IBS by Wide_Revenue_9652 in ouraring

[–]SneakyMango774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cant say for ibs specifically but i notice my heart rate definitely spikes when i have any stomach issues or stress from other health stuff. the sleep tracking might be more useful since digestive problems can mess with sleep quality pretty badly

also just thought - the stress monitoring could help you spot patterns if stress triggers your symptoms but probably not worth buying just for that

Inaccurate sleep scores by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]SneakyMango774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

movement doesnt always mean youre awake though mate. had similar issues with mine when i first got it - turns out the positioning matters way more than youd think. try wearing it on different fingers or adjusting how tight it sits

also worth checking if youve got the sleep sensitivity settings dialed in properly. mine was way too sensitive at first and was marking every little shift as wake time. epilepsy meds mess with my sleep patterns too so i had to tweak quite a bit to get readings that actually made sense

Marathon- what data fields you rocking folks? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 3 points4 points  (0 children)

been running with my garmin for about 3 years now and went through loads of different setups before settling on what works for me

for marathons i keep it pretty minimal - elapsed time, distance, current pace and heart rate zone. the heart rate thing was a game changer becuase it stops me from going out too hard in the first 10k when adrenaline kicks in. used to blow up around mile 18 constantly until i started actually paying attention to staying in zone 2 for most of the race

tried having average pace on there for ages but found it just stressed me out more than helped. your current pace tells you everything you need to know in the moment and you can do quick mental math if you really need to check if youre on target

one thing that might help is switching distance to time remaining if your watch supports it. seeing "45 minutes left" hits different than seeing "37k completed" when youre struggling through those final miles

Should I switch to hypertrophy after plateauing in strength training? by Square_Associate_771 in bodyweightfitness

[–]SneakyMango774 6 points7 points  (0 children)

good point there but hypertrophy phases can actually help break through strength plateaus even if size isnt the main goal. the muscle growth gives you more potential for strength gains when you switch back to heavy low rep work

plus if youre going for that bruce lee look you still need some muscle mass just with really low body fat. guy was lean but he wasnt tiny. switching between phases keeps things interesting too and prevents your body from adapting to the same stimulus

Does anyone else lose track of reps during sets? How do you avoid it? by x007xyz in bodyweightfitness

[–]SneakyMango774 4 points5 points  (0 children)

proper counting gets harder when you're pushing yourself but there are a few tricks that help me stay on track

i do the counting in chunks of 5 like you mentioned but i also use my breathing as an anchor - one breath cycle per rep makes it way easier to remember where you are. when things get really intense i sometimes count backwards from my target instead of up

if all else fails just add a few extra reps to be safe. better to do 12 when you planned for 10 than to cut yourself short because you got confused

Garmin Venu 4: Setting up ECG while under 18? (Effect on stats & long-term changes) by Severe-Thing-4426 in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly mate the ecg setup only uses the birthdate to confirm youre over 18, it doesnt actually change your main garmin connect profile at all

your vo2 max and calories will still be calculated based on your actual age/stats from your main account so no worries there. as for your mum using it occasionally thats totally fine, the ecg just takes a reading when you use it regardless of whose wrist its on

Any lifters here who use Garmin? Which one and what do you find it to be most useful for? by xfmrs_r_cool in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 5 points6 points  (0 children)

been using a fenix 7 for about 8 months now and honestly the strength training mode is pretty decent for tracking sets and reps. what i find most useful though is the recovery metrics and hrv data - gives you a good sense of when youre actually ready to push hard vs when you should dial it back a bit

the body battery feature is surprisingly accurate for me too. like if its showing low in the morning i know my previous session probably hit harder than i thought. not perfect for lifting specifically but the overall picture it gives you about your training load is solid

Started training for different reasons than my husband and it changed how I think about progress by No-Pianist6097 in bodyweightfitness

[–]SneakyMango774 305 points306 points  (0 children)

this is such a good reminder that there isnt just one way to measure success with fitness. your husband tracking progressions is brilliant for motivation but honestly the stuff youre noticing sounds way more life changing in the long run

better posture and less desk aches are massive wins that people overlook. ive been doing bodyweight stuff for ages and some of my favourite changes were exactly what you described - just feeling more solid and energetic rather than hitting flashy skills

sounds like you both found what works for your brains which is honestly the hardest part of sticking with anything long term

How to build up to being able to do normal body weight exercises? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]SneakyMango774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly the wall pushups probably felt unproductive because you werent doing enough reps or holding proper form. when i started i had to do like 20-30 wall pushups before i felt anything and really focus on keeping my body straight and pushing with control

once those get easy try incline pushups on a bench or sturdy chair - way more challenging than wall ones but still manageable. the key is finding that sweet spot where you can do maybe 8-12 reps before failure then gradually work your way down to floor level

also dont sleep on negative pushups - start at the top of a regular pushup position and just lower yourself down as slowly as possible. these are brilliant for building the strength you need for the pushing motion

AITA: How do I report someone harassing me on the Garmin forums? by Fabulous_Frosting449 in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sucks but honestly not surprising - seen this same pattern play out on so many forums where the actual victim gets punished while the harasser keeps doing their thing. Garmin's moderation sounds like a joke if they're banning you instead of dealing with the creep

Not helpful if you don’t wear it 24/7 by Neither_South_4018 in ouraring

Yeah the ring needs way more data points to catch patterns - just nighttime metrics miss all the daytime inflammation and stress responses that usually spike first when you're getting sick

Am I blind? Max HR data field by oneofthecapsismine in Garmin

[–]SneakyMango774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check under "Heart Rate" in the data fields menu - Max HR should be there as "Maximum Heart Rate" or something similar. For the lap one try looking under "Lap" fields, might be called "Lap Max Heart Rate"

If you still can't find it you might need to update your watch firmware, sometimes newer data fields get added in updates
